STATEMENT OF NEEDS

WearereallythrilledtobewelcominganewVicartoHeeleyatsuchanexcitingtimeofchangeinhowweworktogetherinGod’smission.ChristChurchHeeleyisbeginningtoembarkonanewphaseofmissionandwitnessaswedevelopnewmissionallinkswithotherchurchcommunitiesintheareainordertoshareourGod-givengifts.Aswere-imagineparishministryinourlocalareawearelookingforaVicarwhowillbecommittedtogrowingateamofordainedandlayministersservinganewMissionPartnershipinthenorth-westoftheAttercliffeDeanery.

WeseekanevangelicalVicarwhowillprovidestrategicleadershipandworktodeveloplayministryteams,whilstbeingcommittedtoservingtheparishofHeeleyandthenewMissionPartnership.TheDioceseofSheffieldisresourcingthispartnershipwithfourstipendiaryclergypoststoworkwithnon-stipendiaryclergy,localReadersandlayleadersinthechurches.ItisanticipatedthatthepartnershipwillbeservedbytheVicaroftheManorTeam(inpost),theVicarofArbourthorne(inpost),thenewVicaratHeeleyandaPioneerMinisterdevelopingnewopportunitiesformission,primarilyinDarnallandPark.

Tofacilitatethedevelopmentofthisnewwayofworkinginpartnership,theDiocesehavealsocommittedtoappointathree-yearstipendiaryInterimPriestwhowillworkwiththechurchesinvacancy,helpshapethepioneerpostanddevelopgoodpartnershipworkingacrossthearea.AsthePartnershipdevelops,itispossiblethattheVicarofHeeleymayalsoberequiredtoprovidepastoraloversightatStJohn’sParkasPriest-in-Charge.

Weareawarmandwelcomingchurchcommunitywithseveralcongregationscomprisingof79ElectoralRollmembers.

Ourcongregationincludesacrosssectionofallagesandcultures,includingalargeNepalesefellowship.Wearealldifferentandindividualbutunitedbyourfaithandourmissiontobe:RejoicinginWorship,GrowinginDiscipleship,ShowingloveintheCommunityandProclaimingtheGoodNews.

WHERE IS HEELEY PARISH?

HeeleyParishChurch(ChristChurchHeeley)isinthedeaneryofAttercliffe.

TheChurchisconvenientlylocatedneartoSheffieldCityCentreandintheheartofHeeley.ThelocalInfantsandJuniorSchool(Ann’sGrovePrimary,ratedas‘Good’byOfsted)isroundthecornerfromtheChurchandthereisalocalshoppingcentrejustafewhundredyardsaway.

HeeleyisalongestablishedcommunitywithinthecityandtheParishhasapopulationof8,940.Heeleyfolkarefriendlyandwelcoming.Theareaconsistsofsubstantialcouncilhousingaswellasprivatehousing.Theareaissimilartomanyotherinnercityareasinthatwhilstpreviouslyhighunemploymentlevelsarereducingslowly,concentratedpocketsexistwithinthecommunitythathaveahighlevelofnon-earnerhouseholdsandlone-parents,thuscreatingmultipleneed.Thepopulationispredominantlywhitewithanethnicminoritypopulationofabout23%.Diversityisincreasingandinthelastfewyearsourschool(Ann’sGrove)hasgonefromtwoorthreelanguagestomorethan20nowspokenalongsideEnglish–areallyrapidchange!

Parish History

Heeleybecameaparishinitsownrightin2011,priortothiswehadbeenpartoftheParishofHeeleyandGleadlessValley.

WORSHIP

OurworshipisevangelicalandBiblebased.

Thecongregationareactivelyinvolvedintheservicesandwehaveateamoflaypeople(bothmenandwomen)takingpartin:

• leadingservices• preaching• reading• prayers• music

DuringtheSundaymorningservices,BiblereadingsandprayersaresaidinbothEnglishandNepalese.

RobesareusuallyonlywornforWeddings,FuneralsandBaptisms.

Sundaymorningworshipisat10.45am.MorningPrayerisusuallyonthefirstSundayofthemonth,withsaidHolyCommuniononthe2nd,4thand5thSundayandallageworshiponthethirdSunday.Morningworshipincludessongsforthechildrenwhothengooutfortheirownteaching.Musicincludesbothtraditionalhymnstogetherwithmodernworshipsongs.

During2016,ouraverageattendanceatthemorningservicehasbeen67,includingchildren.

TheSunday@Sevenserviceisforthosewhoenjoyamoderninformalstyleofworship.ThisiscurrentlyheldinthelowerhallandtakestheformofarelaxedandinformalBibleStudywithworshipandprayer.

Thereisalsoa6.00pmSaidHolyCommunionBCPServiceonthefirstSundayofeachmonth.

Boththe6.00and7.00pmserviceshavesmallcongregations,currentlybetween6-8peopleforeachservice.

Sundaymorningservicesarecurrentlyaccompaniedbyakeyboard,guitar,drumsandflute.Sunday@Seveniscurrentlyaguitaronly.

AlthoughanumberofourNepalesefellowshipattendSundayservices,theyalsoholdtheirownserviceonSaturdaymorningsat11.00amintheirownlanguage.

AshortserviceisheldonceamonthforresidentsattheHeeleyBankCareHome.

HeeleyParishhasinthepastbeenpartoftheChurchesTogetherinHeeleyandMeersbrook,althoughthishaslapsedrecently.OtherchurchesincludedtheChurchoftheNazareneatHeeley,MountviewMethodist,UnitedReformedChurchatMeesbrookandStPaul’sNortonLees.

TheEthiopianChristianOrthodoxChurcharecurrentlyrentingthechurchonatrialbasisfortheirownservicesonSundayafternoons.

WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

AtHeeleyParishChurchwevaluedeeplytheimportanceofourworkwithchildrenandyouth.Wehaveadedicatedgroupofcoreleadersandstrongsupportfromnumeroushelpersfromwithinthechurch.Childrenareanimportantpartoffamilylifeandthatisreflectedinourlifeasachurchfamily.

OurSundaysstartasafamilywithchildrenintheservicetakingpartinallaspectsofworshipincludingsongs,prayersandnoticesbeforegoingtotheirdedicatedgroupstobetaughtrelevanttotheiragegroups.Wehave3maingroupscateringfor: Pre-schoolagechildrenuptoReceptionage

Activitiesforthesegroupsstartgenerallyinthebackhallalltogetherwithmorechildren’ssongsbeingsungand thoughtsandprayers forourbrothersandsistersaround theworld that facepersecution,using theOpenDoors(whowesupportasachurch)informationtohighlightthestrugglesthatsomeChristiansfaceandhowwecanhelpthroughourprayers.Thegroupsthengooffintotheirownsectionsforfurtherfunteaching.

Fortheolder(youth)wehaveameetingplacewheredeeperdiscussionbasedteachingisheldinaninformalmanner,usuallyincludinghotchocolate,biscuitsandmorechocolate(briberyisagreattoolintheworkwithyouth!!)

DuringtheweekwehaveactivitiesonTuesdaysforourgroups.

JAMClubrunsforthoseinReceptiontoY6,ayoungergroupbeingheldfirstfollowedbytheolderones.

JAMClubalsoholdsthreeholidayclubsayear,GoodFriday(1day),SummerHolidayClub(3days)andanalternativetoHalloweencalledBrightNight(1evening).TheseHolidayclubsareheldfreeofchargeasaservicetothecommunity.

AlsoonTuesdaysweholdourmeetingfortheyouth(Y7+)calledXtreme.Wemeetinaninformalsettingandprovidedrinksandcake/biscuits/crisps(wedidsayfoodwasagoodbribe!).Ourmeetingsareheldinaveryrelaxedmannerwiththeviewthatitisnotallaboutpreachingthewordtothembutevangelisingthemthroughfriendshipandouractions/attitude/lifestyle.Everyweekwedohaveadiscussiontopicandvariousgamesforthegrouptotakepartinaswellasplentyoffreetimeforjustchillingandbeingteenagers.

Xtremetakepartintwooutofchurcheventsduringtheyear.InAugustwetaketheyouthtoSoulSurvivorandinJanuarywegotoEdaleforaweekendwhereweputonourowninformalprogramme.

Special Events Wehaveanumberofeventsthroughouttheyearwhichareattractivetofriendsandneighbourswhodon’tnormallycometochurch.TheseincludeaChristmasFayre,fundraisingeventsforMissionandtheoccasionalthemedsocialnights(inthepastthesehaveincluded:RobinHoodNight,DisneyNight,20’s,40’s,50’sand70’sNights). Fundraising Events AswellasourannualChristmasFayre,wearealsocurrentlyorganisingspecialSaturdayCoffeeMorningsandTableTopsalestoraisefundsforourbuildingproject/rooffund.Thisfundraisingformsavitalpartofourincomeandtheeventsalsohaveasocial/outreachfocus.Bible Study/Fellowship BibleStudyhasnormallybeenheldonaWednesdayeveningatthevicarageledbythevicar.Duringtheinterregnumaprayermeeting/fellowshipisbeingheldinamember’shomeaswellasanalternativeBibleStudyforyoungerpeopleatanotherhouse.Crafty Sew and Sews Anyoneinterestedinknitting,sewingoranyotherkindofcraftcancomealongonthefirstThursdayoftheeachmonthtosharetheirideas,enjoyacuppaandapieceofcake. Nepalese Fellowship OneofourcongregationsmeetsonaSaturdaywhenourNepalesebrothersandsistersholdaserviceintheirownlanguagewhereeveryoneiswelcometoattend.Theyhaveweeklyprayermeetingsaswellashousemeetings,knownascottagemeetingsandaweeklyyouthgroup.

OCCASIONAL OFFICES Ourpolicyinthepasthasbeentobaptiseallwhorequestit,liveintheParish(pluspeoplefromoutsidetheParishiftherearespecialcircumstances)andattendtherequiredpreparation.BaptismservicesnormallytakeplaceonthefirstSundayofthemonthat1.00pm,oraspartofthemorningserviceifamemberofthecongregation.

CHURCH BUILDINGS

Allourservicesandactivitiestakeplaceinawelcomingchurchbuilding. Theoriginalbuilding wasfoundedin1846andextendedin1890and1897withtheadditionofthesideaislesandvestry.Thechurchwasreorderedinthe1970’stoprovidenon-worshipactivityspacewithprovisionofakitchen,toilets,lowerhallatthewestendofthechurch,anupperflooraboveandanorganloftandgallery.

In2015refurbishmentworkwascarriedouttoprovideanimprovedfoyerareawithnewtoilets,anewkitchenwasinstalled,boththeupperandlowerhallswereredecorated,newstorageareascreatedaswellasanimprovedentrancewithautomaticdoors.

Therearefurtherplansforthereorderingoftheworshiparea.ThisisanexcitingandchallengingprojectandwewouldexpectournewVicartotakeanactiveroleinplanningandleadingthiswork.ArecentQIinspectionhasidentifiedurgentrepairstotheroofandfundingiscurrentlybeingsoughtforthiswork.

Thechurchyardis1.4acresandisstillanopengraveyardforexistingplots.OurNepalesefellowshiphavetakenontheroleoftidyingupthegroundsandtheyhavemadeanincredibledifference.

Heeley InstituteisalistedbuildingandformerchapelonthecornerofHartleyStreetandGleadlessRoad,inbetweentheoldAnn’sGroveSchoolandHeeleyParishChurch.ItisoneoftheoldestbuildingsintheareaandwasthefirstplaceofworshipinHeeleywhenitwasbuiltin1826.ItisownedbyHeeleyParishChurchbutleasedtoHeeleyDevelopmentTrust(atapeppercornrent)whorestoredthebuildingin2001forcommunityuse.

TheChurchalsoownsa654m2plotoflandatthesideoftheInstituteonHartleyStreet.

HeeleyParishChurchhastwoChurchWardenselectedfromthecongregationaswellasaDeputyChurchWarden.

TheChurchannuallyelectsaParochialChurchCouncilofupto12peopleandthisPCCleadsandorganisesthepracticallifeofthechurch.

FINANCE

AlthoughnotawealthyParishwearegenerousinourgiving.Wepaidour2016contributionof£26,520towardstheCommonFundbytheendofSeptemberandarecommittedtopaying£30,000in2017.

Heeley Parish ChurchcurrentlysupportsOpenDoorsandMercyMinistries.WehaveaMissionSecretarytooverseeourgivingtotheseworthwhilecauses.Inadditiontothis,wesupportGleadlessValleyFoodbankwithfooddonationsandrepresentationontheManagementBoard.

WealsosupporttheChildren’sSocietythroughdonationsreceivedatourannualChristingleService. THE VICARAGE

Heeley Parish VicarageisafourbedroomdetachedhousenexttotheChurchwithalargereargarden.Thepropertywasbuiltinthe1970’sandhasrecentlyhadanewkitchenandbathroominstalled.
