We join our prayers to theirs as one body in Christ and ask God's blessing on all of us as we grow in love and care for each other.

MONDAY –1 Pt 5:1-4; Mt 16:13-19 “But who do you say that I am?”… “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” – Mt 16:15-16
Every Monday before dawn Jenine Vodon walks half a mile down a rocky path to attend 6 am Mass. Arriving just as day breaks, she lays down on a hard wooden pew before church begins. She rests when she can. Jenine has six grown children and is a grandmother many times over, but she still labors everyday, tilling her small garden in order to eat. Her bones ache, but Jenine knows the Son of the living God and raises her hands at Mass in praise to the Messiah. PRAYER: Son of the living God, we pray for Jenine and those who endure physical toil even into old age and yet recognize your care and goodness. Give us the eyes to see as she does the hope that comes with each new day in You. Amen
TUESDAY – Is 55:10-11; Mt 6:7-15 “Your kingdom come… on earth as in heaven.” – Mt 6:10 Jean Robert sits in the shade during the heat of day and prays the rosary. He prays in the trust that God's kingdom will come. Simply carrying the beads with him throughout the day is in itself a daily prayer that God will be always present with him and will provide for him and his neighbors scattered among the forested paths around Cabestor. PRAYER: Our Father, even in the beautiful mountains of Haiti, living off the land can be difficult. Please give this day your daily bread to our brothers and sisters there. And give us the spiritual daily bread we need to live in solidarity with them and work for justice to come to the people of Haiti. May we all find your kingdom in our communion with each other. Amen WEDNESDAY -- Jon 3:1-10; Lk 11:29-32 “Every man shall turn from his evil way … Who knows, God may relent and forgive.” – Jon 3:8-9 Being a teenager is tough. Trying to live according to one's Christian faith only adds to the difficulty. In Haiti, teens also share their family's burden of providing basic necessities. Lucien is 15. His parents send him to school and to parish youth group. His youth leader says it's hard to convince Lucien and many of his classmates that forming his faith is more important than having a girlfriend or smoking and drinking with the guys. But Sacre Coeur's faith community persists in guiding its youth, hoping they will grow to rely more on God. PRAYER: Lord, with all the struggles that Haitian families endure, strengthen our twin faith to hold its young people in an em-brace of love and concern. We pray for all our children; grant that they will always know your mercy and turn to you in times of stress as well as joy. Help them choose to live by your ways. Amen
THURSDAY – Est C:12, 14-16, 23-25;
Mt 7:7-12 “Seek and you will find…Do to others as you would have them do to you.” – Mt 7:7, 12 Chantal is a preschool teacher and a parish leader in nearby Lascahobas. She also helps the rectory staff in Cabestor. At church, she is a cantor and youth leader. In Cabestor, she cooks, does chores and helps children with homework. Chantal has memorized the
Gospels and often uses the words in ordinary conversation. Her face sometimes reveals an underlying fatigue, but she always manages a smile in believing the truth of Jesus' words. PRAYER: Loving Father, strengthen Chantal and all young women who sacrifice to serve others. Bless those who hang on your words and believe every one with their whole heart. Their faith encourages us to do the same. May we find happiness in always loving and serving you. Amen FRIDAY – Ez 18:21-28; Mt 5:20-26 “Leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Before we even thought about a relationship with a Haitian community, Sonrius Jean Baptiste was running a school for about 500 children in Cabestor. The director of Sacre Coeur School, he's been teaching for more than 30 years. Most of that time teachers there received no pay. Now our twinning project pays teacher salaries. Our friendship with the Haitian community has made us more attuned to their needs and helped us more humbly desire to share our gifts. PRAYER: Jesus, forgive us for the times we’ve forgotten or ignored the needs of our brothers and sisters. Help us to be more aware of our neighbors and to be generous without counting the cost. May our ef-forts toward solidarity reconcile us to them and you. Amen SATURDAY – Dt 26:16-19; Mt 5:43-48 “Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.” Madziani and her brother have every reason to be angry and afraid. When they were very small their father was arrested and held for 2 years as a political prisoner in Haiti. While he was in jail their mother died. Their older brother and family friends cared for them. When their father was released he refused give in to resentment. Instead, he rebuilt a home based on love, even extende to those who had caused his family pain. Now you see only joy in the children’s faces. PRAYER: Loving God, we pray for families in Haiti who have been victimized by violence and oppression. You call us to look at the root causes of conflict. Give us wisdom to conquer evil with love, and the will to seek justice and peace through compassion. Amen
