PLEASE JOIN THE ROSARY MAKERS AND THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS as we pray the Rosary before each Mass during October, the month of the Holy Rosary. Our prayer intentions during October will be offered for increased respect for the dignity of every human life from the moment of conception to natural death, for peace and healing in our land, and for the special intentions of our parishioners. We will begin the Rosary in the sanctuary 30 minutes before Mass begins. Note: on October 11 and 25, we will meet in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. TABLE CRUMBS FOR OUR HAITIAN KIDS Donations still needed to help keep the beans and rice lunch program going for our school children at our twin parish in Haiti. Any amount is appreciated; consider making a monthly donation and dropping it in the collection basket marked "Haiti". Thank You! For more information call (389-3577) or email [email protected].

JUNIOR CHOIR is set to resume Sunday, October 11 if there are enough people interested. Rehearsals will be held on the same Sundays that Christian Formation classes

are held. There will be either one rehearsal from 1:20-2:15 pm or, depending on the ages of members, two rehearsals—one for 1st-5th graders from 12:50-1:30 pm and one for youth in 6th grade or higher from 1:20-2:15 pm. Don’t forget to join us after Mass, the first Sunday of each month (with a few exceptions) from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the social hall. GREAT PRICES AND THE BEST FOOD IN TOWN! KNOCK, KNOCK Who’s there? God calling. Do you feel a hunger for something more in your life, but you’re not sure what? Or a persistent, nagging sense that you should do something spiritual? God may be quietly but constantly calling you through other people or situations to inquire about the Catholic faith. For more information, please call Tommy Denton at 343-0027 or Diane Drahos at 387-0491.

THE GREAT ADVENTURE CONTINUES We continue reading for Lesson 18, the Messianic Fulfillment, Part 1: Gospel of Luke, Chapters 1 – 9. If you have time, read the entire Gospel of Luke prior to doing the lesson. The Great Adventure DVD is shown both before and after the 10:30 am Mass on Sunday, as well as after the Saturday evening Mass. Remember, if you miss a weekend viewing, the DVD is also shown when groups meet at OLPH on Sunday night (~7:15 pm), Monday through Wednesday nights (~8:00 pm) and Wednesday mornings (~11:00 am). Please arrive a few minutes early if you join one of the groups to view the DVD in case discussions wrap up and they start the DVD earlier than noted. See the bulletin calendar for locations.

Luke tells us that he was not an eyewitness to the events of Jesus’ ministry. He is dependent upon others, who have already taken the testimony of such witnesses and put it in narrative form. Scholars have identified three of the sources that Luke used: Mark’s Gospel; a collection of Jesus’ sayings that was also used by Matthew, called “Q”; and a source for additional material about Jesus, which scholars designate “L”. This introduction suggests that Luke is a third-generation Christian looking back on the traditions which he has inherited. (New American Bible, RG)

The Year for Priests Notes on the Calendar from the Office of Worship

Vincent DePaulPriest

A French peasant, Vincent was ordained in 1600. As a parish priest in Paris, he

founded a home for foundlings because it upset him to see so many babies

abandoned by parents unable to care for them. He founded the Daughters of Charity

with Louise de Marillac and the Congregation of the Mission, both

dedicated to helping the poor and visiting prisons. Monsignor Vincent, as he was called, became a popular figure in Paris

and, in spite of his visits to people such as Cardinal Richelieu, he maintained his

simple lifestyle and manner of dress. As the patron saint of the Diocese of

Richmond, his feast day, September 27, holds the rank of solemnity.

All that we have and all that we are

is a gift from God. Amazingly blessed,

God asks us to recognize the numerous gifts in

our lives and say in a heartfelt way,

“Thank you.”
