Well done to you on an excellent week!
Chinese club this Monday will take place in G Block rather than D10 as usual, still at the same time of 3-
4pm. The reason for this is that we will be making Chinese dumplings and tasting our efforts! So, if you
would like to come along, please note there are only 20 spaces available and they will be allocated on a
first come, first served basis. If you have any food allergies, please come along and see us for a list of the
ingredients to see if they will be suitable for you.
Monday, March 20th is International Francophone day where we celebrate all the things French that we
hold dear! The Languages department will be holding a variety of after school events all week; Tuesday
come along and explore French music, Wednesday we will be writing to our partner school in France,
Thursday discovering French comic books. All of these events take place in the MFL department rooms,
from 3-4.15pm.
We will also be hosting a giant French breakfast at break time on Tuesday (21st) - come along to the main
hall at break, answer a (very easy) multiple choice quiz on French food and receive a croissant and juice!
Look forward to seeing many people there!!!
Ofsted Parent View We would like to advise you that you are able to give your views on the Academy to Ofsted via their
parentview questionnaire, at any time – not just during inspections.
We would encourage you to do this at: www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk
Literacy: Language for Learning
The Queen Mother’s Handwriting Awards
This competition has been running since 1977. It was during a visit to the East of England Show in 1976
that The Queen Mother expressed an interest in children’s handwriting saying ‘clear handwriting is an essential element of communication and self-expression.’
When selecting the winning entries the judges look in detail for correct copying of the poem, the formation
of letters and words, correct positioning of punctuation and the overall presentation.

Or please see Miss Ritson (F1) for a copy of the poem and further informtion.

Attendance - Mr Ibbitson delivered our assembly this week and shared some powerful statistics around attendance and the impact it has on grades and achievement over time. Year 8 attendance is slowly improving but we need to continue to work hard on addressing absence. Students who end this term with 100% attendance will be entered into a draw for a chance to win £15 Nandos voucher! 100 students are currently on target for this, a great way to end the term, Please be reminded that a telephone call to school should be made for each day of absence, and a written note from parents/carers sent in on return to school.

There is the chance to win a £25 Nandos voucher, all that is required is 100% attendance for this half term

Year 10 – Mr Waring
I want to start with a HUGE congratulations to our year 10 rugby team and their training staff who pulled off a fantastic win in their rugby county cup final. I witnessed what can only be described as an amazing match. At half time KES were winning 21 points to 5. However, the opposition rallied and stormed back into the lead 22 to 21 with just 5 minutes left on the clock. When Artur Kornafel picks the ball up on the left, but instead of running straight at the touch line, he runs across the width of the pitch as spectators looked at each other baffled at what he was doing. Then in the blink of an eye and a swift change of speed, he darts forward, just avoiding being brought down by six of their players to score a try, a try that any 6 nations side would have been proud of. Once Sam Landles converted the kick, it was all over winning 28 to 21. Behind every successful student, not only are there supportive families but also very hard working and supportive school staff. They often give up their own free time, coaching, encouraging and motivating students to success, not only in year 10 but across the whole school and all year groups. On this occasion, the accolades go to Mr McNeil, Mr Denton and Mr Teanby for all they have done in taking a very diverse group of students, and producing CHAMPIONS. Thank you. Attendance continues to improve in year 10. Top form class this week once again goes to 10R however, this week even they have surpassed all their previous attendance figures. As every student in 10R attended every school day last week and so finished top on 100%, whilst second place went to 10W with 98.4%. A total of 179 year 10 students attended school every day last week, beating the previous weeks figure yet again. The number of positive achievements for year 10 students slipped slightly this week to a very credible total of 5915 positives. Well done to all who gained and keep pushing for more, you all deserve them for the amazing work you do I am sure. Top positive achieving student this week goes to Mia King with no fewer than 115 positive points whilst second place goes to Cara Alsop and Katelyn Hall with 70 points, fantastic achievement ladies well done. But where are the top male achievers? Come on lads, surely we can be just as positive and break this run the girls are on. Once again 10R came out on top with 1065 positive achievement points and so once again makes them top form class. Other form results listed below. But well done to all who contributed so positively, keep up the good work year 10. 10A 725 10D 775 10E 425 10G 725 10K 625 10N 705 10R 1065 10W 870 Year 10 language stars this week are Cara Alsop and Lucy Schofield with this week’s sports star awards going to Dan Aviss and Izzy Overton, well done all of you.
Simply the best!
Year 11 – Mrs Wright

week and 183 students the week before. Well done Year 11 keep up the good work, it will pay off. Dr
Tadikonda’s form 11T had the highest form attendance last week with an amazing 97.7%.

Maths week update Maths week at KES kicked off with Pi Day on the 14th March, the date written in the american format of month first gives 3 14, the first 3 digits of the never ending constant called Pi.
In lessons students related the number to it's origins in relation to the diameter and circumference of a circle. Some classes linked it to music with the digits representing musical notes, some classes found their date of birth in the number, and some found how tall the accumulation of the first 30 trillion (30 followed by 12 zeros!) digits would be printed on standard A4 paper, font size 11. The answer was found to be approximately 750km, thanks to Mr Head's class for calculating the solution!
Year 7, 8, and 9 took part in a maths relay event at lunchtime in the hall with a number of problem solving activities. It was a joy to see such enthusiasm from the students with so many getting involved with the maths challenges. The Maths House Countdown event was hosted on Wednesday which was another opportunity for students to experience the challenge of the well known TV show.
Prizes will be awarded in assembly.A great week all round!
