She comes from a good family – the oldest university in Moravia, that’s a good match. She resides in a beautiful city – Olomouc will be loved by everyone! Her aunt was founded by the Jesuits, her mother remembers the rumbling of Prussian guns. When she came into the world, people rattled their keys in the squares. She has listened to lectures, invited people to shows, danced at the Majáles festival, and welcomed foreign guests. She has listened to countless stories, studied long into the night, and, especially, has read and read and read. She has raised a lot of amazing girls and boys. Some of them she actually put together. She was friends with the majority of them and a number of them remember her to this day. And she does them too.

The Central Library (Armoury)
Every student knows the Armoury! But how many of them know that this former artillery armoury from the time of Maria There-sa is on the list of cultural monuments? It was built by soldiers with tricorn hats on their heads in the years 1768-1769. Since then they have marched back and forth, gradually changing their headgear. When the soldiers left, they had steel helmets on their heads.
The year 1991 is worth remembering – the armoury became the property of Palacky University and the vision of Comenius, “let us make libraries out of armouries”, finally began to be fulfilled. What a beautiful idea! First, the archaeologists investigated the courtyard, then workers repaired everything, and finally, in 1997, the library started her operation. In a few years, she shone and sparkled. And today? Today, the armoury is a real heart of the university, a cultural centre and meeting place for students.
