From our Principal
We have almost made it to the end of another school term. This term has been full of events
including Inter School Sports, Pancake Day, a trip to the Arts centre, Cross country, Year One
Dinner, Lightning Premiership, and Harmony Day. Next week we will have our Bucket Filler Day.
You may have heard the Prime Minister’s address mentioning the importance of keeping schools open.
Whilst Schools remain open, classroom attendance is the normal mode of education delivery. Schools are
not yet required to provide Student Learning Packages at this time; as teachers are required by the
Department to concentrate on day to day classroom delivery.
It is not unreasonable to suggest that a period of school closure looms for all of us. I will run through some
of the things that we can do as Parents and Teachers to help our children keep safe, keep learning and keep
smiling! We need to begin planning a routine that allows for as much normality as possible. You could
begin to plan a space where your child could continue to learn if necessary. This place should have good
lighting, a comfortable chair and table. Coloured pencils, paper and a laptop or other device would be
handy. If we do have to close, we will supply work over the Internet. Check your Internet connection and
let us know if we need to think about an alternative way of supporting your child during any closure. Please
make sure we have your correct phone number and email address and you have joined our Updat-ed app. If
your details have changed, please call us on 5941 1511 or via email at [email protected].
If our school gets closed down, our teachers will work from home. They will be on their laptops from
9:00am to 3:30pm each school day. We are currently setting up a platform to be able to communicate with
our families. Parents and children will be able to ask questions and talk to their teachers. Don’t forget that
whilst teachers will be on the computer all day, they will be working with other children too and will need
time to have lunch and a drink from time to time; so they may not be able to answer your questions
immediately. We ask you to assume good intentions on the teachers’ part!
Your teacher may wish to speak with you and or your child to see how things are going. They will phone
you from their mobile during regular school hours. The number will be blocked, but the teacher may well
have messaged first to give you the heads up on when you are being called. Pop the phone onto speaker to
monitor the call, that way you can answer any questions if the child is unsure and you might enjoy sharing
the task with them!

Continued from our Principal
We ask you as parents to pass onto teachers any welfare problems your child may be
experiencing. Sometimes just hearing their teacher’s voice and talking about how they are
feeling and being heard by their empathetic teacher will be enough to solve most little worries.
Our Wellbeing Team will be in phone contact with families they are currently working with, as well as any
families who reach out through their teacher. You can also reach our wellbeing team through our school
email.
We are heading into unknown waters! In the event of school closures, you will be everything in your child’s
world. Try to build this as an adventure, play new games, build things together, make puppets, cook,
redecorate a bedroom, drive out the fear and make this a memorable time.
We need to make good choices to support our community. You can choose to whinge and gossip on social
media, or you can upload great ideas that you have done with your family. We can worry about our current
situation or we can reinvent our families and connect in a way that wasn’t possible before. Be the
inspiration for others.
I will continue to keep you updated through our website and the Updat-ed App. We will continue to use
Facebook for reminders and to let you know where to go for more information. Please remember to contact
us via email rather than our Facebook messenger. We will continue to build resources and put them on our
website.
We all play an important role in getting through this. I would personally like to thank each and every staff
member at PCS for the dedication they have given to our children and families over this time. They have left
their home each day to come to school with a positive attitude and a focus on learning for our students.
There is a sense of calm in our school. Even as the staff are given additional tasks during this time, they
have all worked together and are ensuring the current and future education of our students will be of the
highest standard possible.
Please remember that school finishes at 2:30pm next Friday. I wish you all a very Happy Easter and hope to
see you all back at PCS on Tuesday 14th April.

If your child is going to be absent from school please
call and leave a message on our Absence Voice Mail
system. Call 5941 1511 and press two then leave the
students name and reason for absence.
Please ensure that all your
information is up to date. This
includes Address, Phone Numbers
and any relevant documents such as
Court or Custody Orders.
CSEF – if you are new to the school or have had a new member of your family start
the school, could you please call into the office and fill out a new CSEF form.
The first round have been entered and we are awaiting them to be processed.
Thank you to the many people who have paid for their Student Essential Learning
Items. If you have not paid them as yet, please remember that we ask these to be
paid for by the end of June 2020.
We also have many outstanding charges from 2019 and ask that these be paid as
soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact the Admin office if you require a
payment plan to ease the burden.
When making payment directly to our school official account, could you please put
a description with the payment so that we know what it is you are paying for
e.g. Transfer Maria Barnes BAR0004 Int Sports.
Notice from CommBank School Banking
The health, safety and wellbeing of our communities and our people is our first priority. Due to
the rapidly developing situation with coronavirus, School Banking has been temporarily paused
from 20 March 2020 until the start of Term 2. Please don’t bring your deposit book with your
weekly banking into school and we will notify you when banking will recommence.
BUCKET FILLER LEADERS
It is my privilege to announce our 2020 BUCKET FILLER LEADERS.
Thank you to all the students who courageously put themselves forward to become a bucket filler leader, unfortunately we couldn’t pick every one!
The following students from Year One to Year Six were chosen by their peers to be the 2020 BUCKET FILLER LEADERS because they consistently demonstrate bucket filler traits, are a great example to others and are passionate about the Bucket Filler program.

We would love to have presented the students with their badges at assembly however due to the current restrictions we were unable to do this however we will recognise their wonderful achievement when school assemblies return to normal.
Feeling Is Thinking
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
We will be running “Feeling is Thinking” in Term Two and Three here at the school. This program is run for Year Three to Six students (depending on numbers).
We would like to offer this group to your child / children in your care. We will be running this group during school time at the school.
The group is to assist children with their relationships and in expressing their feelings.
This group is facilitated in small groups (no more than eight children) and focuses on issues such as exploring feelings, strong emotions: what do they look like?, what things make people angry, managing anger, taking risks and practising changes.
Feeling is Thinking runs for four weeks and each session is for one hour. The group concludes with a ‘Celebration’ session.
Feeling is Thinking will be facilitated by myself, Cindy Selby and Kelly Dow. If you think your son or daughter (or child in your care) would benefit from Feeling is Thinking we would encourage you to talk to him / her about this. Should you decide that they would like to participate please return the reply slip to myself as soon as possible.
There will be a $10.00 fee for this program to help with the costs of the journals that your child will receive. Once your child has been placed into a group you will receive a confirmation letter and a request for payment. Please do not send payment until you receive this request.
Pakenham Consolidated School are pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.

Seasons for Growth
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At Pakenham Consolidated School we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering a very successful educational Program called Seasons for Growth. This Program is facilitated in small groups of up to eight children (with a minimum of four - five in each group before the program can run), at three different levels, Level One is for children in Years One and Two, Level Two is for children in Years Three and Four and Level Three is for children in Years Five and Six. The Program is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The Program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.
The Seasons for Growth Program is made up of a one hour session, once a week, over a nine week period. The Program then concludes with a ‘celebration’ session.
Seasons for Growth is facilitated by Cindy Selby and Kelly Dow. We have received special training in the use of this Program. If you think your son or daughter, or child in your care, would benefit from Seasons for Growth we would encourage you to talk to him / her about this. Should he / she decide to participate please fill in the attached form and return it to me in the Wellbeing Centre as soon as possible.

House Cross Country
On Tuesday the 3rd March our school held our annual House Cross Country day. It was a great day
with the conditions being perfect for running.
Throughout the day we witnessed some fantastic efforts with all of the students giving their best
which was great to see. We saw some great encouragement from on and off the course with
everybody supporting each other making sure that everybody crossed that finish line.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE ART ROOM??
Foundation are learning about fine motor skills including cutting, gluing and drawing. They
are creating a self-portrait.
Year One are learning about different cultures. They are creating a Japanese kimono.
Grade 2 are learning about different cultures. They are creating a Japanese puppet, using
Japanese icon illustrations.
Grade 3 are learning about Master artists. They are painting ‘Sunflowers’ by Van Gogh,
depicting ‘radial balance’.
Grade 4 are learning about Master artists. They are painting ‘Starry Night’ by Van Gogh, depicting ‘movement’.
