From the Principal
This week has been full of wonderful Book Week activities. I hope you all enjoyed looking at different books and dressing up as a book character. This week the Children’s Book Council of Australia names the books of the year. The winner of picture story book of the year is Shaun Tan’s book called Cicada. It is a beautiful book with a great story. I highly recommend it.
Recently, there has been an increase in the number of parents using the staff car park to collect their children. I understand that parking around the school is difficult but we must provide a safe environment for our students. Children from our Out of School Hours program use the car park to get to the service. It is not ok for parents to be parking in the staff car park.
During this cold weather we understand that it can be difficult to get washing dry and sometimes it is necessary to come to school out of complete uniform. When these times occur we ask that you try to match our school colours as closely as possible. We also need to remind you that hoodies are not to be worn at school so please look for a jumper without a hood if you cannot locate a school jumper.
There is a story in this week’s Pakenham Gazette about Nobelius Land Surveyors and the very generous scholarship that they will be awarding to one of our Year Six students this year. Ben Nobelius was a student at PCS about 20 years ago and has decided he wants to give back to the students at this great school. I hope the Year Six students are working on their applications for this award.
Congratulations to our Year Three aerobics team who went to Casey radio on Monday and were a part of the live show. This was a great experience for our students as they spoke wonderfully and represented our school so beautifully.
Last of all we wish all of the students who are competing in the athletics today the best of luck. I hope you all enjoy yourselves.

It is extremely dangerous for
children to be walking in the

Gravel Carpark
We understand that car parking around all schools is difficult.
We are asking that if you park in this particular car park to
please be considerate on the way your park your vehicle.
Please ensure that your vehicle is not blocking other vehicles
or the driveways to enter and exit the carpark.
What can I use my Centrepay Payment for….
Centrepay is a great way to have fortnightly payments paid into your school account. We have
endless families that have taken up this payment option.
Your Centrepay payment can be used to pay for all expenses that are incurred at school. For
example you can use this money for Essential Learning Items, Incursions, Excursions, Camps,
Special Lunches etc…
If you would like to set up Centrepay please contact our Administration Office and we will be
more than happy to help.
What can I use my CSEF (Camp, Sports and Excursion Fund) for…
CSEF is a payment that is given to eligible families that apply and qualify yearly.
Your CSEF payment can ONLY be used for CAMPS, INCURSIONS, EXCURSIONS and SPORTING
EVENTS. This payment can not be used for any other items.
We would love your help!!!!

As part of our aim to encourage and instil a love of reading in our students at PCS, we will be opening the library on Thursday mornings from 8:30am-8:45am for Reading Club. Students will be able to come in and cosy up with a good book, and chat about what they are reading
with other students and staff. Please note this does not link to nights of reading, but rather is to provide students with extra reading opportunities.
This week we have celebrated Book Week at PCS. Staff and Students were able to share their amazing book character costumes with a parade in the gym which was enjoyed by all that came along to watch. The students also engaged in a range of Book Week activities celebrating the theme, ‘Reading is my Secret Power’.
We also ran a Book Swap Activity, every recess from Tuesday to Friday of Book Week. Children were invited to bring in a book that they no longer wanted or needed and ‘swap’ it for a different book. As our Book Swap was so successful we have decided to continue this every Tuesday for the rest of the term. We are also happy to accept donations to add to our collection of books available for the Book Swap.

Crossing the road safely Pedestrians have to share the road with vehicles so it is important they take care when crossing the road. As a pedestrian, plan where you will walk and always choose the safest place to cross a road.
Stop, Look, Listen, Think
Follow the safe road crossing procedure – STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK.
STOP one step back from the kerb or shoulder of the road if there is no footpath. LOOK in all directions for approaching traffic. LISTEN in all directions for approaching traffic. THINK about whether it is safe to cross the road – when the road is clear or all
traffic has stopped. When crossing, walk straight across the road. Keep LOOKING and LISTENING for traffic while crossing.
This information is particularly relevant to young people learning to cross roads. But it also provides a useful reminder to everyone particularly to those who may be distracted when crossing the road.
