CALENDAR TERM 1 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS Over the last week I had the pleasure of

reading to all of the classes. Thank you

to the students for their wonderful

manners and interest in ‘Rosie Revere,

Engineer’ by Andrea Beaty. This tells in

lively rhyming verse the story of a

second-grade girl who wants to be a

great engineer. She loves making

gadgets and tries to make a machine for

her great-great aunt so she can

fly. There are wonderful lessons here about following your

dreams and understanding that failure is part of the inventor's (or

engineer's) process and that you only truly fail if you quit.

Thank you to our outgoing P&C

leadership team of Rebekah, Sharon,

Nerida and Nicky. These ladies have done

an amazing job over many years leading

our P&C and working together to ensure

our school has access to additional resources and programs.

Thank you from our whole school community for all of your work

and effort.

At the P&C Annual General Meeting last week the following

parents were nominated and accepted these positions:

President: Michael D

Vice-President: Annette W

Treasurer: Lu L

There were two positions not filled, that of an additional Vice-

President and Secretary. Please consider one of these positions,

they will be voted on at the next meeting.

There has been some unexplained and unjustified student

absences and lateness to school in recent weeks. Every minute

counts. Next week I will be meeting with the Home School Liaison

NRL VISIT

Our students were treated to a visit from the South Sydney

Rabbitohs N.R.L. Club last week. The children were excited to

meet James Roberts, Mark Nicholls and Brock Gardner who played some

fun and exciting games and talked about respect for others and

ourselves.

STEM PROJECTS WITH 3/4G

3/4G read the book ‘The Lost Thing’ by Shaun Tan last week in class. They

then planned and designed their own ‘Lost Thing’, produced a product of

what it might look like and then wrote a

description of it. Well done!

2020 VOLUNTEER ETHICS TEACHERS NEEDED Teaching our kids to *THINK*REASON*DISCUSS*. SRE lessons are held on Tuesday mornings from 9:20am-9:55am each week. What do the children learn? To explore ethical issues with confidence through the give-and-take of reasoned argument. They will learn to disagree respectfully, to challenge ideas and support their arguments with considered experience rather than according to habit or peer pressure. What do I need to become a teacher? Ethics offer a unique training program with FULLY SCRIPTED LESSONS (no preparation needed!!) you don't need to be a teacher or a philosopher, just a love of learning and a genuine interest in the future of our young ones. What does the training involve? Online short half hour courses (completed in your own time) and 2 days offsite workshop with a group of other Ethics teachers (you can choose your days). Please feel free to call our Ethics Co-Ordinator for more info or just to discuss: Alessia Jolesz 0413 470 559 It will be the decisions of the children we teach today that will shape our world tomorrow!! UNIFORM SHOP

Our lovely parent volunteers will open the uniform shop on Thursday 12 March at 9.15am. Uniform orders can be

left at the office at any time with correct money. Our parent volunteers will fill the orders when they can. For new

uniform shop order form can be obtained from the office. There is also a large selection of second hand uniforms

for sale. As the weather is turning cool, please ensure that your child has a jumper or jacket and hat at school. It is

good idea to order winter uniforms, jumpers and jackets now for Term 2. Please clearly label each item to minimise

loss.

SCHOOL SAFETY PROCEDURES

For families new to our school, some reminders about a few safety procedures:

The school playground is not the place for any toys such as scooters, bikes, skateboards or in-line skates. This

includes before and after school and at school functions which may occur at the weekend or in the evening.

The play equipment can only be used by students at lunchtimes, not before and after school.

All volunteers and visitors must sign in at our office and wear a badge while on the school site.

No parent is permitted to speak with someone else’s child in a disciplinary manner. Any difficulties with a child

other than your own must be referred to a teacher.

When using the pedestrian crossing when the supervisor is on duty, please wait until they have stopped the traffic

before you start to cross.

Please do not double park or do a U-turn in school zones – the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents are not permitted to drive into the school grounds at any time.

Parents are not permitted to leave their vehicle in the Kiss n Go zone. This is for set down and pick up only.

In accordance with the Companion Animals Act, dogs are not permitted on school property at any time, whether or

not they are on a leash. Nor should dogs be brought to any school activity at another venue, including sports.

Please see more safety information on page 10.

ES (EASTERN SUBURBS) PSSA CODE OF CONDUCT

The following information regarding the PSSA Code of Conduct is for parents and carers who attend PSSA games and

carnivals. Students who are selected to represent Pagewood PS will be given a copy of the Players’ Code of Conduct.

Further information is available at http://easternsuburbs.sessazones.com/codes-of-conduct/

Codes of Behaviour provide a supportive framework which promotes fair play and appropriate behaviour in school

sport. These codes apply to players, teachers, coaches, principals, parents, officials and spectators who together

provide the environment in which school sport is played. The following Codes apply

to school sport at all levels and are designed to highlight:

The principles of enjoyment, satisfaction and safe play in sport

That students participate for their own sake and not to fulfil the desires of

parents, adult groups or peers

The encouragement of student participation in sport and, in so doing, contribute to higher levels of health

and physical fitness.

PARENTS’ CODE

Encourage your child to always play by the rules.

If children are interested in sport, encourage them to participate. Refrain from forcing an unwilling child to participate.

Remember that children participate in organised school sports for their enjoyment and fulfilment, not yours.

Teach your child that honest effort is as important as winning so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.

Encourage your child to work towards skill improvement. Never ridicule your child for making a mistake or losing a competition.

Always encourage the principle of good sportsmanship.

Children learn best by example. Applaud good play by all individuals and all teams.

Do not publicly question the officials’ judgement and never their honesty.

Appreciate the contribution and commitment of teachers in coaching positions. They give their time and resources to provide sporting activities for your child and deserve your support.

Have realistic expectations for your child and her or his team. Do not expect more than they can give.

Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities. Condemn the use of violence in any form.
