CALENDAR TERM 1 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS The Year 5 and 6 Fun Day was a big hit with all of the students. The Year
5 and 6 students organised a range of activities for the whole school to
enjoy. It was well run and great to see the whole school having fun with
friends and staff. They raised a total of $2300 which will go towards their
trip to Canberrra next term.
Well done to Year 5 and 6. I
would like to thank Mrs
Cianciolo, Miss Grisanti and Ms
Wilkinson for organsing fun
day and the staff for
supervising and getting involved. It
was wonderful to see parents
coming along to help with the stalls
and spend time with the students.
Thank you for your support.
Mrs Hawkes, Mrs Cianciolo, Mrs Arthur and myself attended professional
learning for the External Validation school assessment last week. This
learning was provided by the Principal School Leadership team who will
be working closely with our team to support the process. Miss Moffat and
Miss Grisanti are part of the team as well. Mrs Shiozawa and Mrs Berman
also attended professional learning to support their understanding of
teaching students with autism. It is important that staff are engaged in
targeted professional learning to support their professional goals and the
needs of the Pagewood PS students.
I ask all parents to familiarise themselves with the Kiss and Ride
instructions on pages 3 and 6. It is very important that all parents and
carers follow these rules to ensure that this zone
is safe and effective for everyone. Our main
priority is the safety of all of our students.
Library monitors have been chosen and I’m sure
they will love looking after these books in the
new ‘cow’ bookholder. Thanks Mrs Kerves for
ordering this for our school library!
Make sure you pop into school to vote, have a sausage and/or a cake this Saturday 23 March to support our school. Volunteers
are still needed for the BBQ and serving so please help if you can by signing up via the link on page 7.

‘TELL THEM FROM ME’ YEARS 4 - 6
This term our school, like many other public schools in NSW, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell
Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other
student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our Year 4 – 6 students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think
about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300
schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of
our students will help improve how we do things at our school.
The survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be
administered during school hours between 20 March and 12 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or
children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 22 March. Copies of the form and FAQs in 23 other languages
are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
NAPLAN – NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM LITERACY AND NUMERACY
In Term 2 Year 3 and 5 students will participate in NAPLAN online between Tuesday 14
and Friday 24 May. It is most likely that Year 5 will complete NAPLAN in Week 3 between
Tuesday 14 – Thursday 16 May and Year 3 will complete NAPLAN in Week 4 between
Monday 20 – Wednesday 22 May.
This year all students at Pagewood PS will participate in the online format of NAPLAN.
Year 3 students will not be completing the writing component online, rather it will be a
handwritten sample. All students in these years have been given a printed ‘Information for Parents’ sheet today. Please read the
information and contact your child’s classroom teacher or Mrs Arthur (Year 3) or Miss Cianciolo (Year 5) if you have any further
questions.
The school is currently ensuring all devices that will be used meet the required specifications and that students are familiar with
the test format. All students will require headphones to wear during the assessments. Between 25 March and 5 April students
will participate in an ‘omnibus’ test which will provide a sample of the test format and how to log on correctly. Further
information about NAPLAN is available here: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/student-assessment/naplan-
online/getting-ready/parent-information
The link below will take you to demonstration tests for conventions of language (grammar, punctuation, and spelling),
numeracy, reading and writing for each NAPLAN test year level: 3, 5, 7 and 9. As all Year 3 students will complete the writing test
on paper, there is no Year 3 demonstration test for writing. You may like to have a look at these with your child.

YEAR 6-7 TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Please ensure completed forms are given to your child’s class teacher by tomorrow (Tuesday 19 March). The next step is that all
information is collated and forwarded to either your child’s local high school for transition organisation or if you have indicated
on the form that your child will be attending a non-government school this information will be stored so there is a record of which
school your child will be attending in 2020.
WELLBEING WEEK Wellbeing Week is here again! In Week 9, the SRC will take over homework and replace it with a Wellbeing Grid. This grid includes a range of diverse learning activities designed to provide students with some well deserved downtime. Please encourage your child to complete at least 3 of these activities over the course of Week 9. In addition to this, class teachers will be running fun, relaxing and interesting activities throughout the week. Please refer to the timetable below for more information. Mrs Bevis and the SRC

HARMONY DAY
On Thursday 21 March we will celebrate Harmony Day as a school community. This
is a day where we celebrate inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all
Australians. The students will complete a range of Harmony Day activities within
their classrooms.
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day and students can celebrate by wearing the colour orange to school on
Thursday 21 March. Students may wear orange mufti clothing, or their school uniform with a ‘splash of orange’.
KISS AND RIDE ZONE
Our Kiss and Ride zone is up and running. Kiss and Ride zones are designed for your
convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these
zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers.
These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means
you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. The driver
is required to remain in the vehicle. The gate next to the Kiss and Ride zone will be
open from 8:00am-9:30am and 3:00pm-4:00pm each day.
The Kiss and Ride Zone Rules are on page 6. It is very important that all parents and carers follow these rules to ensure that this
zone is safe and effective for everyone. Our main priority is the safety of all our students. If grandparents or carers will be using
this zone can you please give them a copy of the rules so they are aware of the system in place.
Students will be advised to stand back against the fence, away from the kerb, and wait until their car is in the zone before they
proceed. If your child is not waiting, please do a loop and return to the queue or park legally and walk to collect them.
Please DO NOT double park or do a U-turn as this is illegal and places children at risk.
Please note this zone will not be supervised by school staff. Please respect the timing and sequence, load children and their bags
straight into the car, not the boot, which will avoid exiting the vehicle and speed up the process. Council will be patrolling the
area to supervise this zone.

ASSEMBLY - Assembly will be held on Wednesday 20 March at 2.30pm. Library Monitor badges will be presented and the Choir
will perform a song. Parents/Carers/grandparents are most welcome to attend our assemblies. You do not need to sign in at
the office for assembly, just take a seat in the hall.
LIBRARY MONITORS FOR 2019
Please see below the list of library monitors for this year. These students were drawn from a box of nominations. We will present the library monitor badges at assembly this week.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
Individual, class and specific group photographs are scheduled for Thursday 23 May (Term 2 Week 4). The school usually alternates
between summer and winter uniform each year. This date was booked last year and is not able to be changed. We will ensure that
in 2020 we will book for Term 1 so summer uniform can be worn.
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AFTER SCHOOL
A reminder to parents that the school playground equipment is NOT to be used before / after school by students or siblings, even with parental supervision.
This equipment is only to be used by students of Pagewood Public at second half of lunchtime when supervised by a teacher. Although injuries cannot be totally avoided in school playgrounds, much can be done to minimise their frequency and severity. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
STEWART HOUSE CLOTHING APPEAL 2019
Bags will be sent home this week for the Stewart House/Smith Family clothing appeal. If you would like to donate clothing that
is in good condition, please return your bags by Wednesday 27 March for collection.
There will not be enough bags to distribute to every child, if you do not receive a bag, you are welcome to donate clothes in a
plastic garbage bag.
Stewart House is the NSW Public Education’s charity of choice and they thank you for your support.
CHICKEN POX
There was a case of Chicken Pox confirmed in our student community Friday 8 March. Please contact the school if you require any
information. Detailed information regarding the symptoms of Chicken Pox are available on the NSW Health website.
https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/Chickenpox.aspx

P&C (PARENTS AND CITIZENS) NEWS
NSW ELECTION
DAY BBQ
SATURDAY 23RD MARCH Pagewood Public School P&C will be running a BBQ and cake stall on the upcoming election day. This is a great
community fundraising event and an opportunity to showcase our school.
CAKE STALL
One cake box per family (we’re happy to supply extra if needed ) will be sent today (Monday 18th March). Please
ask your child to decorate the box – there is a small prize for the best looking box, and then fill it with biscuits, slices,
cup-cakes, a cake etc. (There are some great ideas in our fabulous cookbook if you’re looking for inspiration!)
Ideally we would like the cakes delivered to school on Saturday morning. If that is not practical for you, we will be
accepting cakes on Friday before and after school. Please be aware there will not be space to keep cakes in the
fridge overnight.
VOLUNTEERS
If you are available to help out on the day, it would be much appreciated! The work will involve preparing
food and/or taking money. Please add your name to a time slot that works best for you -

able to help, please contact Anna [email protected]

With just under 6 months until our 2019 Market carnival, the
planning is about to go into overdrive.
How can you help? Great Question!
We are inviting everyone to find a way to be involved in the Market Carnival this year, but right now
we are looking specifically for someone (or even better a team of people) who would like to co-
ordinate the raffle and silent auction- this would involve contacting sponsors and local businesses
asking for donations. We are also looking for someone with a Marketing focus. If you think either of
these descriptions fit you, please get in touch. If you have any suggestions or would like to help in any
way, please get in touch: [email protected]
Class Stalls- We will ask each class to run a stall on the day. A contact list is being prepared by a volunteer
from each class. Pretty soon you will hear from them and there will be the opportunity to suggest a stall
your class could run. Please note- some of our regular stalls are quite popular and not everyone will get
their first pick. Please be understanding if this is the case.
Thank you for supporting our Market Carnival. Funds raised will be used to improve resources within the
school for our children. We hope to see everyone enjoying the day.
