MEET THE TEACHER EVENING

Our Meet the Teacher evening will be held on Monday 15 February in your child’s classroom. Only one adult per

child will be able to attend in accordance with our COVID guidelines. Chairs will be spread out, sanitiser at the

entrance to each classroom, windows open and there will be a maximum of 30 visitors in each room. Parents are

asked to:

• sign in to the QR code at the gate (you will NOT need to sign an external visitor form as it is out of hours)

• bring your own pen

• please see the map of our school on page 8 to show where your child’s classroom is located

We look forward to you hearing about what your child will be learning this year and see the classroom spaces.

CURRENT SCHOOLS’ GUIDELINES FOR VISITORS AND THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

The Service NSW COVID safe check-in is required for visitors to the school, complimenting existing school visitor sign-

in processes, including the external visitors to the school site form. Visitors signing in at the front desk should self-

serve using the COVID safe check-in tool as displayed in the poster. If parents are attending a meeting with school

staff or visiting the Uniform Shop they will need to first sign in using the QR Code and then sign the External Visitors

form at the office first.

INTENSIVE LEARNING SUPPORT FOR OUR STUDENTS

As we all know, 2020 was a tough year. This is particularly so for our students and teachers who rose to the

challenges in a disrupted year that included seven weeks of remote learning due to COVID-19, and in some areas,

that came on top of bushfires and floods. For our students, this has been an unsettling time. The government and

department have recognised this with the announcement of a $337 million program aimed at ensuring that schools

can identify students who would benefit the most from intensive support. This will be tailored to their requirements

to ensure that students’ educational outcomes continue to improve in 2021.

Pagewood Public School will be using their funding allocation to employ an additional teacher three days per week

for Term 1 and 2 to support student learning. The 2021 intensive learning support program will provide small group

tuition (2-5 students) of 30-45 minutes two-three times per week for 8 weeks during school time. Mrs Andy Karro,

who has worked in our school previously as a casual teacher, will be leading the program on a Tuesday, Wednesday

and Thursday. Information letters and permission requests have today been given to individual students who have

been selected for the intensive learning support program. The first eight weeks will focus on students in Years 1, 3

and 5. The first eight weeks of Term 2 will focus on small groups of students from Years 2, 4 and 6. Please contact

Mrs Karro for any further information.

Reading, swimming, mathematics and cheering on their sports houses…it’s all happening at Pagewood Public school.

DANCE AUDITIONS

This year Pagewood Public School students may audition for three different dance groups. Junior Dance, for Year 2

and 3 students, will be led by Mrs Chrysostomou during lunchtime on Tuesdays. Senior Dance, for Year 4, 5 and 6

students, will be led by Miss Grisanti during lunchtime on Thursdays. Mr Garcia and Ms Curtis will be leading a

separate Hip Hop dance crew at lunchtime on Mondays for students in Years 3-6. Stage groups will be kept apart in

the hall.

A list was sent around to students today to indicate interest in one of our dance groups. The Junior dance group will

be performing a Jazz routine and the Senior dance group will be a Jazz routine with integrated Hip Hop. Please have

a conversation with your child about their interest in auditioning for one of our groups depending on the style of

dance they prefer. Students will be given the choice of just trialling for one of the groups, or to indicate if they are

flexible to participate in auditions for Junior and Senior Dance, as well as the Hip Hop group. After all auditions have

been complete, the dance teachers will work together to finalise the dance groups. Auditions will take place this

week and next week on Tuesday for all junior students and Thursday for all senior students and Hip Hop

students. There will be an additional trial for Hip Hop next Monday. Whilst we are as yet unsure of performance

opportunities in 2021, we look forward to seeing our dancers back again this year.

Kind regards

Ms Grisanti

PSSA TRIALS

PSSA trials were held last week for softball, league tag and AFL for students in Year 3-6. A note has been sent home

to all parents of all students who have trialled for these sports with more information. Parents and students will

need to sign these forms in order to play PSSA for the school. Training will begin this Friday as follows:

8.00am – 9.00am League Tag and AFL training

8.30am – 9.00am Softball training

In the event of rain, training will go ahead and we will focus on theory indoors.

The first PSSA games will be held on Friday of Week 4. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, parents will not be

permitted to attend games.

CHANGES TO ASSEMBLY

Assembly is back! Unfortunately not with parents and friends in attendance as yet. In Term 1 we will be holding a K-2

and a Y3-6 assembly each fortnight on a Wednesday at 2:30pm. This week will see a 2:15pm start for Year 3-6 as we

will be handing out the swimming awards. Even weeks, beginning next week will be K-2. At each assembly four Merit

awards per class will be handed out. Year 6 student leaders will be running assemblies for this term. We look

forward to when parents and carers can join us again for assembly and classes can lead the assembly and present an

item.

UNIFORM SHOP – TUESDAYS FORTNIGHTLY

Please note the uniform shop will be changing to Tuesdays this year. Our lovely parent volunteers have returned to

a busy start to the year and are ready for fortnightly face to face sales. It would help if parents can arrive for face to

face sales with their Order Form prepared to save time. However you can still place an order online direct to

[email protected] . Order forms must be used for all purchases and emailed directly to

[email protected] .

Please see our website under “P&C / Uniforms” for more information.

https://pagewood-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/supporting-our-students/parents--carers-and-the-community/uniform-

shop.html

Please write your child/ren’s name on their hat, jacket and every piece of clothing so we can return it to them if lost.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT

A Statement of Account for each family will be sent home next week. This will include fees for various activities that

your child/ren is enrolled in at school and will be sent out each term. For Term 1 you can expect the invoice to include:

• Year 5 and 6 diary $7

• School Swimming Carnival $10 (Year 3-6 who attended)

• PSSA sport Term 1 $45

• Zone Swimming – cost to be confirmed

Please contact Ms Mayhew in absolute confidence if you require financial assistance or would like to organise a

payment plan.

ASTHMA/ANAPHYLAXIS AND OTHER MEDICAL MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR 2019

To all our current and new families, if your child has been identified as having Asthma, Anaphylaxis or any other

medical condition, a CURRENT Asthma/Anaphylaxis Plan or Medical Plan must be provided to the school for the 2021

year. Please obtain an Asthma/Anaphylaxis form from the office which must be completed and signed by the family

doctor. In addition, we ask that if your child requires Ventolin/other medication at school, it must be kept in the school

office. Please ensure that medication provided to the school has a valid expiry date. Please also advise the school if

there are any changes regarding your child/ren health care plans.

These plans need to be updated annually. We kindly request that if the above applies to your child/ren that these

plans/medications be brought in by Monday 22 February 2021.

ALLERGY AWARENESS

Please remember to avoid sending nuts and nut products to school, especially peanut butter and nutella. To assist

us in providing a safe environment for students with potential anaphylaxis, please ask your child not to share food.

While nuts are the most publicised issue, there is also a range of other foods to which some of our students may

react. For example, an allergy to shellfish may occur by eating something made with oyster sauce. Rather than have

a long list of “banned” items, it is safer if all of our students only eat the food supplied by their own parents.

SPEED LIMITS AND PARKING AROUND OUR SCHOOL

Parents need to be mindful that there are children crossing roads at school drop off and pickup times. Please stick to

the 40km speed limit and do not do U-turns in school zones as this puts children at risk.

KISS AND RIDE ZONES For the benefit of our new families, we have a designated Kiss and Ride Zone in Holloway Street for safe and efficient

collection of your child/ren. Kiss and Ride Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety.

Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and

carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or

pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You're required to remain in your vehicle. Days and hours of operation

may apply to some zones. It is very important that all parents and carers follow the rules so that this zone is safe and

effective for everyone. Our main priority is the safety of all our students. If grandparents or carers will be using this

zone can you please give them a copy of the rules so they are aware of the system in place.

Students will be advised to stand back against the fence, away from the kerb, and wait until their car is at the front of

the zone before they proceed. If your child is not waiting, please drive away and return to the queue or park legally

and walk to collect them.

Please note this zone will not be supervised by school staff. Please respect the timing and load children and their bags

straight into the car, not the boot, as this will speed up the process. Council will be patrolling the area to supervise

this facility. Please see page 14 for more information.

CANTEEN

Our canteen is open four days, Tuesday through to Friday. Please note, the cut off time for online orders is now

8.30am, this is to assist our staff to ensure orders are prepared on time for your children. Please see page 13 and

the bottom of the menu on how to login and order online.

From all of us at Anthony Catering

Please see the school website under “School Information / Canteen” for more information.

YOUR CONTACT DETAILS

It is vital that the school has current work, mobile, email and emergency contact details for your child/ren so that we can contact you in case your child is unwell or injured. If your contact or emergency details have recently changed can you please complete the form on page 9 and return it to the office by email or in person as soon as possible.

Pagewood Public School P&C Association

Membership Interest Information

The Pagewood Public School P&C (Parent’s and Citizen’s) Association is a not-for-profit organisation which is

established to promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into

close co-operation, to assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and in promoting the recreation and

welfare of the students.

PPS P&C Association meets at 7pm online on Zoom and/or in the School Library on the first Monday of every month

during the school term. Each meeting is announced in the school newsletter and an agenda is published. A range of

topics are discussed, including:

• Updates from the Principal

• Fundraising initiatives such as Market Carnival

• Father’s Day/Mother’s Day stalls (and finding volunteers to run them!)

• School programs & allocation of P&C funds towards school programs

• Special morning teas or events

• Uniform Shop - run onsite by the P&C

The meetings also provide a forum for parents to raise questions and respectfully make suggestions about the

school.

Annual membership is $1 and entitles you to be involved in the decision making of PPS P&C Association. When you

become a financial member, you agree to follow the Constitution, by-laws, Code of Conduct and sub-committee

rules as adopted by the PPS P&C Association, copies of these materials are available on request to the P&C email

address below. You are recognised as a financial member of the Pagewood Public School P&C Association after the

close of the meeting before which you submitted your payment.

At the Annual General Meeting (AGM, held in March) the voluntary executive positions of President, Vice President,

Secretary and Treasurer are elected. You must have joined at a previous meeting to be eligible to vote at the AGM

or stand for an executive position.

At various times during the year the School may call a merit selection panel for the purpose of employing a teacher

or administrative staff. The P&C is invited to provide a representative to these panels. In this situation a P&C

financial member will be elected by the P&C Association to join the panel.

An active P&C is at the heart of a great school, and we strongly encourage parents to get involved at Pagewood

Public School. When you support the P&C, you support improvements for the school, the teachers and most

importantly, your children.
