In New York City, two hi- jacked planes crashed through the Twin Towers. Flight 11 from United Airlines collided against the World Trade Centers’ north tower. Within the next 17 minutes, flight 175 crashed into the south tower at 9:03 a.m. The towers collapsed, taking the lives of 2,749 people with them. Sadly, 23 New York police officers died along with the 343 firefighters struggling to save trapped civilians. It was a day we will never forget. “I was on the Washington State ferry from Bremerton to Seattle on my way to work at Cleaveland High School. I was dozing as my long time friend and colleague Ralph Neubeck listened to the morning news on his radio. He awakened me when they an- nouncement that a plane had crashed in to the first tower.
