AUTHOR'S NOTE I wrote the very first draft of this play in May, 2008.

In the years between then and now, I married my love under a large oak tree, had a baby boy, and then a baby girl, and moved from my thirties into my forties. During this period, I have never been more aware of the passage of time while simultaneously being too busy and exhausted to really notice. And that's why dusting this play off after 8 years is so meaningful and poignant.

In this play young people pretend they're older in order to reminisce and hold on to the time still ahead of them. That's what I was doing when I wrote it then. And older people pretend they're young in order to renew their commitment to value every moment. That's what I do when I see it now. Color wheels can be found in the strangest of places; for me, I found one in my own play.

I am so honored to have this be the first production in our new home and so grateful to the people that made it happen: the Sacred Fools staff, members, associate members, artists, and supporters; my wonderful parents, who have always made me feel like I'm home and have now extended that feeling to countless other artists; my children, whom I can watch chase each other around the stage forever; and my wife, whom I love more than blue loves the sky.

But enough sentiment, already-- time to bring out the unicorns! --Padraic Duffy

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

As I write this, Sacred Fools Company members and others from the 99 seat community, are volunteering their time renovating the theater in which you sit. Pulling staples out of luan, repainting bathrooms and sweeping up sawdust. Hammering away at the set, hanging lights from the grid and re-installing dimmer packs. Tonight, Fools will invariably put their children to bed and send someone off to the theater to stand 12 feet in the air with a wrench hanging from their belt loop or to pour their guts out upon a rehearsal stage. Our production team will be off in a myriad of directions,

throwing their hearts at PAST TIME and the rebirth of Sacred Fools in its new home.

For all of this work and support, I am so very grateful. Grateful also for our patrons, Patrick and Carlyn Duffy, who have collaborated with this company to bring forth a new platform upon which to grow, and a brilliant canvass on which to work. Grateful for this talented and devoted cast and crew. Grateful for Padraic, wearer of a million hats, and his invitation to read this beautiful script. I had sworn off of theater for the year. But his play struck a chord in me I could not ignore. My heart demanded participation.

Which brings me to the what. What moves us to such devotion and effort? What moves us all to come together, in common purpose, to create? It sure ain't the money.

In the light of PAST TIME, I would submit the following:

We need beauty in our lives. These are the things we do to foster it.

And we are so glad you are here to see what we have made.

Hope you enjoy the show! --Jeremy Aldridge

LATE NIGHT AT SACRED FOOLS

SERIAL KILLERS:

Season 11

"Serial Killers likes to take the company's usual penchant for absurdity and then dial up the crazy."

–L.A. Weekly (Recommended)

SATURDAYS @ 11PM

Cycle Three: Feb. 20 – March 26

PLAYOFFS: April 9 – May 14

Each week, three continuing stories

face off against two new tales. At the

end of the show, you vote for the three

stories that you would like to see

continue on to next Saturday night,

where their subsequent episodes will

then be pitted against two completely

new storylines. Each week's serials

could live on for weeks... or be quietly

smothered in their sleep – it’s up to you. But whichever pieces you vote for, one

thing is for certain – by the end of the evening, you will be a Serial killer.

IN THE PLAYOFFS, another year of serialized storytelling culminates as this season's

sixteen most popular storylines go head to head in a weekly elimination round. Only

the last two serials left standing will get to finish their stories... and win cash prizes!

SERIAL KILLERS is the most ambitious late-night show in town, and its unique

combination of late-night comedy and theatrical storytelling has spawned several

full-length plays, including our award-winning productions of Watson, A Kind of Love

Story and Absolutely Filthy.

Throughout the year... Fast & Loose and Ten Tops

FAST & LOOSE - A FOOLISH TRADITION!

Several new short plays are written overnight,

rehearsed the next day and performed that

evening! "One of the best theater experiences

in town!" –BackStage West

TEN TOPS - A Very Eclectic Open Mic

Anything goes! Join in! Or just watch!

"I’m pleased to have encountered a night in which I

didn’t know what to expect, and was, every time,

genuinely surprised and always entertained." –L.A. Splash

and TEN TOPS performances throughout the year!
