Launch of 2015 Primary School New Mother Tongue Languages Curriculum
2010 MTL Review Recommendations
Recommendations implemented in the New Primary MTL curriculum:
• Strengthening the teaching and learning of interaction skills;
• A more systematic teaching of oral vocabulary & sentence structures; and
• Greater use of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching and learning of MTLs.
Features of the 2015 Primary School MTL Curriculum
• Greater emphasis on spoken & written interaction skills;
• Greater focus on authentic activities to better engage students and develop their communications skills;
• Continue to expose students to culture & values through MTL learning.
Features of the 2015 Primary School MTL Curriculum
• Story characters set in real-life situations that students can relate to, so as to better engage students in their learning of MTL ;
• Greater use of ICT, e.g. videos, animation, digital interactive games etc.
Continued Focus on Language Skills
• Greater use of authentic language activities to better develop our students’ communication skills;
• Encourage language use in its various forms;
• Development of other language skills remain important.

Modular Currciulum in MFPS
• Most of the students will be taking Core Module(核心)at Primary 1
• For pupils who enter school with little or no exposure to CL will be taking Bridging Module(导入)for better support in learning.
• At the end of Primary 1, pupil assessed with the interest and ability in CL will be encouraged to go further by taking Higher Chinese Language(高华)at Primary 2.

Tips for Parents
• Encourage your child to learn through meaningful language games. For example, make use of the small flash cards to play games to help your child reinforce character recognition etc.
• Bring your child to the library or book store to cultivate reading habit.
• Show interest in your child’s learning experiences and encourage him or her to share them with you.
• Make use of objects in your environment such as road signs and advertisements to engage your child in CL/ML/TL conversations.
