627 Transition Events and Dates

Tuggerah Lakes Zone Cross-Country 2015 On Tuesday 26 May, the Tuggerah Lakes Zone Cross-Country Carnival took place on a beautiful Autumn day at Edsacc Oval Bateau Bay. Our school team of 62 children were very well behaved and participated with an enthusiastic spirit in each race. It was as usual a very challenging course, especially so this year because of the soft ground and muddy patches. Each age event was also very competitive because there were up to 100 runners in total from the 13 schools competing. All children were striving to achieve personal bests and gain points for their school to be the overall carnival winner. The children should be very proud of all the efforts they have put into their personal training at home since the school carnival. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch the races and support their children on the day. Also thanks to Mrs Brunton and her parent helpers for running the canteen on the day.

At the end of the day there were some fine individual performances and personal best results. As a team Berkeley Vale School finished 4th on the day. Special congratulations to Xander Martin 1st, Quinn Richardson 2nd, Hemi Knebel 6th and Noah Jovanovic 10th in the 12 years boys with In-diah Ellis 6th in the 12 years girls. Damian Shearer came 8th and Bailey van Kints 10th in the 11 years boys with Alana Bennett 4th in the 11 years girls. Sawyer Etchells came 6th in the 9 years boys with Elizabeth Shearer 1st in the 9 years girls. The first 6 place-getters all go on to rep-resent Tuggerah Lakes Zone at the Sydney North Regional Cross-Country Carnival on Thursday 11th June 2015 at Gosford.

Mr Bauer and Mrs Bath Cross Country Team Managers

Netball On Wednesday 20 May the selected students in the school Netball team travelled to Baker Park, Gosford to participate in the PSSA Gala Day. Berkeley Vale won the pool games convincingly but unfortunately we were defeated in the semi finals. A big thank you to Mrs Davidson and Ms Trasler for training and organising the team . We had a great day!

Boy’s Cricket Well done to the boy’s cricket team who overcame a defiant Bateau Bay team last week. Bateau Bay scored 9-84 in their innings with everyone chipping in to take the wickets. Matt Smale had bowling figures of 3-6 and Evan Hillman 2-9. Our boys backed up their great bowling with some text book batting. Matt Smale hit the first six of the campaign and belted 5 fours on his way to 39 not out. Jayden Eslick, Luke Smith and Evan Hillman all scored well on the way to 2-99. The team are now into Rd 4 of the knockout which will be played at a later date.

Information on Hand, foot & mouth Disease There has been a reported case of Hand, foot and mouth disease. For your information please read the following compiled by the De-partment of Education. What is Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease? Hand, foot and mouth disease is generally a mild illness and has nothing to do with the animal disease called foot and mouth disease. It mainly occurs with children under 10 years of age but it can also occur in older children and adults. Signs and Symptoms Blisters that start as small red dots which later become ulcers. Blis-ters appear on the inside of the cheeks, gums, the sides of the tongue, hands and feet. Blisters usually last for 7-10 days. Children can sometimes have a low fever, sore throat, tiredness, feel off col-our and may experience loss of appetite. How is it Spread Spread by person –to-person contact. It is also spread by secretions from the mouth, respiratory system and by direct contact with the fluid in blisters. Treatment Paracetamol will relieve fever and discomfort. Consult you GP. Children with the disease should be excluded from school until their blisters have dried. The illness should be reported to the principal.

Canteen Survey - The P&C would like to thank those who com-pleted the canteen survey last term. The P&C are committed to representing the families of Berkeley Vale Public School and one of our aims is to provide the best canteen, OOSH and Uniform Shop possible. The canteen surveys gave families an opportunity to provide us with their feedback and the data was collated and put into a report that will soon be available on the school’s web-site. Overall the feedback was very positive and they were some great suggestions on some real and practical things that the P&C, in conjunction with the canteen Supervisor and the schools PDHPE committee, can investigate further and implement. Whilst we are desperately in need of a full canteen upgrade (which people are working on behind the scenes), there are some wonderful im-provements that we can make in the interim. Facebook Page – Please ‘like’ our new Facebook page – ‘Berkeley Vale Public School P&C’ to keep up to date with P&C and school events. Stay tuned for more details, however feel free to come along to our P&C meetings once a month or email the P&C on [email protected] if you have any suggestions or constructive feedback. We would also love to hear from any of the talented pool of parents and caregivers within our school community that can give us any assistance, no matter how small or infrequent. It would be greatly appreciated and remember "many hands make light work". The events committee will meet on Tuesday 16 June at 6pm in the staffroom. The next meeting will be held in the staffroom on Tuesday 16 June at 7pm.

OOSH Yes, the Vacation Care Program is officially out and what a pro-gram we have these holidays. There is a tour of SCG and Alliance Stadium, Masterchef pastry cook-off, ten-pin bowling and a REAL Bingo day just like the adults with great prizes. It’s filling fast so pop up to the cottage and chat with Leanne or Ashleigh to se-cure a place for the kids. Our changes are looking fantastic in OOSH. We received new carpet this week and will continue with positive changes to bring us up in line with the National Quality Framework standards introducing a program based on educational learning guided by the children. Feel free to have a sticky beak anytime!

Sydney North State Netball Indicia Michelini from 6E represented Berkeley Vale Public School at the Sydney North State Netball tryouts on Tuesday 19 May. Although she was unsuccessful in making the team she put in a tremendous effort. Well done Indicia!
