Christmas Reflection The Patriarchs and Prophets prayed for the coming of Christ in Bethlehem, and this first coming did not silence the groaning of creation. For, according to the words of the Apostle, while man waited for the birth of Jesus in Judea, the rest of the universe still waits for the revelation of Christ in His Church. The mystery of Christmas, therefore lays upon all a debt and an obligation to the rest of men and to the whole created universe. We who have seen the light of Christ are obliged, by the greatness of grace that has been given to us, to make known the presence of the Savior to the ends of the earth. This we will not only do by preaching the glad tidings of His coming, but above all by revealing Him in our lives. Christ is born to us today. This one day is the day of His birth, but every day of our mortal lives must be His manifestation, His divine Epiphany, in the world which He has created and redeemed. -Thomas Merton, Seasons of Celebration

Dear People of God,

The Savior of the world has come down from heaven. Let us rejoice! This proc-lamation, filled with deep rejoicing, echoed in the night at Bethlehem. Today, the Church renews it with unchanged joy: the Savior is born for us! A wave of tenderness and hope fills our hearts, together with an overpowering need for closeness and peace. In the crib we contemplate the One, who stripped himself of divine glory in order to become poor, driven by love for mankind! Beside the crib the Christmas tree, with its twinkling lights, reminds us that with the birth of Jesus, the tree of Life has blossomed anew in the desert of humanity. The crib and tree: precious symbols, which hand down in time the true meaning of Christmas! In the heavens echoes the proclamation of the angels: “To you a Savior in the City of David, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). What a wonder! By being born in Bethlehem, the Eternal Son of God has entered into the history of each person living on the face of the earth. He is now present in the world as the one Savior of Humanity. For this reason we pray to him: Savior of the world, save us!

Lord, save us from the wars and armed conflicts,

which lay to waste entire regions of the world, from the

scourge of terrorism and from the many forms of violence,

which assail the weak and the vulnerable. Save us from

discouragement as we face the paths to peace, difficult paths indeed,

yet possible and therefore necessary paths,

which are always and everywhere urgent, especially

in the Land where you were born, Prince of Peace.

And you, Mary, the Virgin of expectation and fulfillment,

who holds the secret of Christmas, make us able to recognize

in the Child, whom you hold in your arms, the heralded Savior,

who brings hope and peace to all.

With you, we worship Him and trustingly say: we need You,

Redeemer of man. You, who know the hopes and fears of our hearts,

come and stay with us.

Lord, may the joy of your Nativity reach to the farthest

ends of the universe!

A Very Blessed Christmas

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Merry Christmas! Today is born our

Savior, Christ the Lord! The Word, Jesus Christ, was with God from the beginning and brought life to the world. What an awesome thought! Jesus being born in

time reminds all of us that our birth is not an accident. God uniquely created each one of us and gave us life out of love. He designed us with purpose and blessed each

one of us with gifts and talents. Jesus, Emmanuel and Son of God, shows us who we are and who we are meant to become!

COLONIAL GARDENS STEELER TAILGATE PARTY The Holy Sepulcher Ladies of Charity hosted a Steeler Tailgate Party for the

residents of Colonial Gardens on Sunday, December 11th. A heartfelt thank you to

everyone who generously donated all the needed food and supplies for the party as

well as those who volunteered to spend their afternoon having lunch and visiting

with the residents during the Steeler game. The residents and staff were very

appreciative to have us share the day with them and asked us to come back to visit

again. Holy Sepulcher is blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers who were

so gracious in giving of their time and talents to share with the residents of Colonial

Gardens.

God Bless you all and Merry Christmas!

CATHOLIC MEN’S FELLOWSHIP The next Catholic Men’s Fellowship (CMF) meeting will be on Thursday, December 29 at 7:00 pm, in the John Paul II room. All men are invited. CMF offers the opportunity for men of the parish to share their faith and love for Christ as Catholic Christian men through prayer and fellowship. They gather in Christ’s presence to share experiences, strength and hope, and prayerfully support one another in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality. Scripture readings and reflections are used for the weekly lesson plans. Then there are questions that provoke discussion in the group pertaining to those readings and to real world situations in which a man may find himself in. CHRISTMAS BREAK: Our next Faith Formation class is

January 8, 2017.

Saint of the week: ST. STEPHEN — Feast Day: December 26 Born: close to the time of Jesus Died: 33-34 A.D. Stephen was the first disciple who died for his faith in Jesus. St. Stephen a young, faithful follower of Christ, spoke with such wisdom and grace that many people who heard him, became fol-lowers of Jesus. In a speech before the Sanhedrin, Stephen spoke about God’s guidance through Israel’s history, as well as Israel’s idolatry and disobedience. He then told them that they had this same spirit: “[Y]ou always oppose the holy Spirit; you are just like

your ancestors” (Acts 7:51b). They threw him out of the city, and began to stone him…. As they were stoning Stephen, he called out, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit…. Lord, do not hold this sin against them’” (Acts 7:55-56, 58a, 59, 60b). Stephen was falsely accused, brought to unjust condemnation because he spoke the truth fearlessly. He died with his eyes trust-fully fixed on Jesus, and with a prayer of forgiveness on his lips.

AROUND THE COMMUNITY

"She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." Today we celebrate that the prophetic dream of St. Joseph was

fulfilled! Jesus is born! A Savior has come to deliver us--Emmanuel, "God is with us." Christmas is a feast of fulfillment, a holiday of deep and enduring happiness not only because God became man and was born of a woman, but because along with his Incarnation, God brought us freedom. Jesus is the long-awaited

Messiah who sets us free from the misery of our own sins. This is the ultimate

gift of Christmas Day.

We exchange gifts today as a sign of our love for one another to be sure, but also as a concrete, visible way to celebrate the gift that we have first received from God. We are free people! We are not slaves but

rather the children of God whose priceless inheritance is to dwell in his kingdom for all eternity. On this most festive day of the year, we are invited to exult in this fact and spare little effort or expense to show

our gratitude and joy.

We only must be careful not to reduce our celebrating today to something less glorious, something less meaningful, or less profound. This is no mere secular

holiday. This is not just a ritual of family gatherings, elaborate evergreen trees and sumptuous meals. Christmas is a holy day and as Christians it is our day in a most definite and undeniable way. The treats

and trimmings are all signs that remind us of what lies ahead for those who accept the real gift of Jesus Christ: an unending banquet of eternal delights and divine gifts

that will never fail to satisfy. Yes, Christmas is a little taste of heaven, the

perfect gift that lies in wait for those who love the Lord.

Merry Christmas
