The reports are based on assessments, projects, work samples and observations of students’ performance in class throughout the semester. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s progress please contact the office to make an appointment with your child’s teacher. Our Ballroom Dancers had a great day last week competing at the Regional Ballroom Championships in Penrith. It was a great day with hundreds of children involved from public and private schools. Congratulations to all our participants and a special thanks to the staff who provided the tuition this year, Mrs Luczak and Miss Derigo. This year’s swim scheme is off to a great start thanks to Mrs Hodges and Ms Jankovic. It is great to be able to offer this valuable program to 120 of our students as learning to swim is such an important life skill for children growing up in Australia. This year we are holding the lessons at Mt Druitt pool. We have many events coming up in the next few weeks which will be advertised in the newsletter and on our Skoolbag App. One of these is White Ribbon Day which is being held on Wednesday 25 th November 12.30 3pm. All parents ( especially Dad, Grandads, Uncles, Big Brothers ) are invited to attend to meet Mark Geyer, enjoy a free sausage sizzle and fun activities for the afternoon! As the end of the year approaches we are planning classes and staffing for 2016. If you are moving from the area and your children will not be returning to Oxley Park we would like you to contact the office and let us know as soon as possible. Alternatively if you know someone who is moving into the area or has Kindergarten students please let us know. At this point we have 2 known staff changes for 2016. Mrs White and myself are both leaving Oxley Park PS. Mrs White has received a transfer and we will miss her musical expertise. She has provided a valuable program for all of our students, teaching music, particularly singing and recorder for several years. My new appointment is to Stewart House School at Curl Curl. It is with a heavy heart that I leave Oxley Park as it has been a wonderful community to work in, with the most dedicated and supportive staff I have encountered in my career. Not to mention the most beautiful children in a truly harmonious multicultural school. My new appointment will take 1800 students each year from all schools across the state with 90 students attending each fortnight. The school provides respite for students who may be experiencing some hardships. I intend to keep a keen eye on any applicants from OPPS. Tuesday Chats

We have a presentation on Tuesday, 10th November. Our new school Instructional Leader, Anica Tanevski, will be

discussing how to help your child with Reading, Writing and Maths.

Kindergarten Orientation

Our Kindergarten Orientation program is well underway but it’s not too late to bring your child along if they’re starting

Kindergarten next year. We’re having our next orientation day this Friday 6th November, with children having a taste of

Kindergarten in the classrooms while parents listen to some brief talks in the hall about what they can expect in 2016.

Bring your child along between 9 and 9.30am this Friday and the parent presentation will be finished at around 10.30am.

Morning tea is available and toddlers are welcome.

We are also hosting some extra orientation sessions over the next 3 weeks aimed at our new Kindergarten students.

There will be no parent presentation on these dates, just a chance for the children to become more acquainted with

Kindergarten and school life. There is no obligation to stay although parents are welcome to do so if they wish. There will be

coffee and tea available in the school hall.

These extra orientation days are:

For the final meeting on the 27th

children. Bring along your teddy and join in the fun!

Group Photos

Recently we arranged to have some photos taken of our special groups this year: dance groups, recorder groups, choirs,

debaters, library monitors, house captains, captains and prefects, and the SRC.

If you would like to purchase these photos, they are currently on display in the school office. Order envelopes are also

provided and need to be completed by Wednesday, 25th November. Please see the school’s office staff if you have any

questions.

Canteen News

The end of the year is fast approaching and the canteen will cease the use of Family accounts on Wednesday 9th December,

2015. We would like all accounts to be paid up and in credit for your children to use again in 2016. Money will need to

accompany any orders placed until the end of term. Any accounts which are not in credit at the end of the school term will

not be renewed for 2016. A note will be sent home through your child’s classroom to inform you of your current account

balance. Thank you for your support.

If your child/children are attending swim school and have lunch orders could you please assist the canteen staff by writing

“swim school” along with your child’s name and class on the lunch order bags. Any children attending CLC sport on Friday

will need to hand their lunch orders in before the 9:00am bell. To assist with this the canteen will be open at 8:15am to take

any orders. Any child who forgets to hand in their order by 9:00am will be offered a sandwich in place of their hot food order.

News from the Library

Congratulations to the students who are continuing to borrow. The library will be operating for borrowing until Friday 4th

December, 2015. Your child may be given reminder notes and overdue notes in preparation for the end of borrowing for

2015.

Our goal is to have all loaned books returned to the library by the end of 2015 and we need your help. If your child comes

home with an overdue notice, please have a good look around your house. If you cannot locate the book, please write a

note and I shall have a look on the library shelves for the book.

Selective High School Applications Year 7, 2017 If you are interested in your child applying for a Selective High School in 2017, please see Mrs Hawkins in Stage 3 for a booklet about the process. All Applications are to be completed online by Monday, 16 November, 2015.

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion

Stage Three have returned from their educational visit to Canberra with a greater understanding of Australia’s political

system through visits to old and new Parliament House as well as a new-found appreciation and respect for our diggers’

sacrifice after visiting the War Memorial. They travelled down ANZAC Parade and visited the infamous Questacon. However,

we think a highlight may have been the Australian Institute of Sport.

We would like to thank the Australian Government for their PACER initiative which offers a rebate on the cost for each

student attending the Canberra excursion. This initiative supports schools who participate in a variety of educational

programs as part of Civics and Citizenship that focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The students

have great memories from their excursion and we believe meeting Malcolm Turnbull PM on his way to Question Time was

definitely one of the highlights…even for the teachers.

Helping Your Child to Learn - School Presentation

Wednesday 11th

November

Come along and join us in the hall as our Instructional Leader, Anica Tanevski, presents a practical look at how you can help

your child at home with reading, writing and maths. There will be lots of fun, hands-on ideas to help your child learn at home!

This presentation will be in the hall along with our regular playgroup on Wednesday, 11th November, starting at around

9.30am. Toddlers are welcome and supervision for them is provided throughout the talk. This will finish up at around 10am.

Playgroup is otherwise on as per normal. Refreshments are provided. This presentation was originally to be given on the

Tuesday, but we’ve moved it onto the Wednesday to coincide with playgroup. We hope you are able to join us!

Peter Pan

Once upon a time there was a Pirate named Captain Hook. He was very mean and full of mischief. There was also

a boy named Peter - last name – Pan. He could fly and he was really smart. One day Peter Pan battled with Hook,

the bad guy. Pan was so strong he kept throwing Hook around the ship. Hook got thrown so far he landed in the

water where a crocodile was waiting for him. The crocodile bit into his hook and it came off. Hook was so

scared he swam back to shore and was never seen again. By Brooklyn

Whooping Cough Alert From NSW Health

There has been a recent increase of whooping cough (pertussis) amongst primary-school-aged children and

a modest increase in high schools.

Coughing spreads the infection to others nearby. Whooping cough caught at school can spread to any younger

brothers and sisters at home. Whooping cough can be especially dangerous for babies.

Whooping cough starts like a cold and progresses to bouts of coughing that can last for many weeks. Older children

may just have a cough that is persistent and is worse at night. The infection can occur even in fully-vaccinated

children.

Children with symptoms should see a GP.

If your doctor diagnoses whooping cough, please let the school know and keep your child at home until they

have taken 5 days of antibiotics. Keep coughing children away from babies.

Whooping cough vaccines give good protection against infection but immunity fades. If your school-aged child

has younger siblings, it’s a good idea to check that they are up to date with their vaccines.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect Attention All EAL/D Parents We would like to invite any interested EAL/D parents to share their culture by holding some cooking classes in our new kitchen in the hall. The first lot of cooking demonstrations will be on Friday, 13th November, from 9am. To 11am. Come and join in the fun, share your culture and have some yummy food. Please see Mrs Konarew for details.

The school will supply all the ingredients!!!

Before the cooking class, Nepean Migrant Centre will give a brief talk about services in the area. Toddlers welcome.

Thank you, Mrs Konarew ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
