Outram School Newsletter Volume 4 Number 8 – 1 December 2016 OUTRAM SCHOOL VISION – A school where children strive for excellence, love learning, develop their passions and reach their potential Dear Parents Tēnā koutou, kia ora koutou katoa A quick few messages from me rather than my normal narrative. CAPES Assembly I have spent a good part of this week preparing the certificates for this week’s CAPES assembly; the final one for 2016. There are a significant number of students who will be presented awards tomorrow and many have reached the ‘Gold’ award level. I have been thrilled with both the number of students now engaged in CAPES and the quality of what is being completed / undertaken at the higher levels of each award pathway. Tomorrow’s assembly is one of the important ones in our school calendar and I hope as many of you as possible can join us in this celebration of success. In addition to the CAPES awards, there are a number of students who have recently completed Science and Maths awards. These too, will be presented tomorrow. Library Books Tomorrow is the last day for the Allen Centre Library to operate for 2016. All books are now due for return. Please check with your child(ren) and check at home to ensure all issued library books have been returned. Picnic Day Notices A reminder that all Picnic Day notices are due to the office tomorrow. If you do not have, or have misplaced the notice, there is a copy on the school website. My aim is to have all information regarding the Picnic Day organisation to you on Tuesday. School Accounts One area of our school accounts is the Activities ledger. This holds the Income and Expenditure codes for all the school events and activities we pay on your behalf. These are costs to the school that we pay to allow your child(ren) to take part in all the activities, sports and events we offer. We are currently, carrying a debt of $1,780 in sports fees alone. This is for children who have played sport over the year and to date have not paid, or fully paid, the agreed fee to play that sport. There are also other ‘in and out’ budgets where the payments made on your behalf have not been paid to the school. Debts in these areas reduces the funds we have available to use in the classroom. Please ensure all school accounts are paid before the end of this school year (or the regular credits are maintained over the break until the account is fully paid.) Our ultimate goal is to have all expenditure in the Activities ledger matched by the income. Thank you to all those who have now cleared their school account for the year, or have in place regular direct credits. 28 – 8 December 1 December 2 December 7 December 8 December 9 December 12 December 13 December 15 December 31 January Swimsation Seniors Choir – Church Service CAPES Assembly Yr 8 Leavers Dinner House & Garden Tour Picnic Day Y6 Leavers lunch Final Prize Giving Assem Last day of Term 4 School starts back 2017 School contact details: 1 Beaumaris Street, Outram. Futsal Yesterday evening, the Year 5 / 6 Futsal Team played their last game for the season; a play off for first and second with St Clair. I was super impressed with the improvement in both team and individual play between the first game of the season and last night’s final. Unfortunately, despite a great team game, we did come out on the wrong side of the scoresheet. Thank you very much to Barb Cuthill who managed and coached the team through the season.

CO2 Dragsters There was great excitement in the hall this morning as our Year 7 and 8 students battled it out on the drag strip set up for their CO2 Dragsters they have been designing as part of the Term 4 Allen Centre programme. These little racers build up incredible speed over a short distance and are definitely fun to watch. A very popular and motivating programme that has taught the students so much about design and aerodynamics in a very practical hands-on way.

A very busy time of year with a lot happening; I hope I have the time to catch up with you all as the end of year school events unfold. Nga mihi nui

FINAL PRIZEGIVING ASSEMBLY AND FAREWELL AFTERNOON TEA

Outram Community Pool Update

It has come to the attention of the committee that recently rubbish (including sand and toilet paper) has been found in the school pool. This sort of behaviour affects the pools’ performance and the enjoyment of everyone. We encourage all key holders to be responsible with the use of the pool. If anyone has any concerns or information, please don’t hesitate to contact Duncan Wells.

School sports tops

As it is nearing the end of the year, I just wanted to ask if any of the children that are leaving at the end of the year would like to either donate or we sell on behalf of their sports top. We would love to have them as second hand tops to on sell.

Kitchen Tools Xmas Orders

Friends of Outram School are running the Kitchen Essentials fundraiser again. We had a lot of very positive comments from our last run of these so thought they would be a great option for Christmas gifts too. Please do not feel the need to go out “selling” these or “having” to purchase, they are just an option if you wish to do some easy Christmas shopping. Every little bit helps to go back into your child’s education and learning at school.

There is a great variety of kitchen essentials, gift ideas, lunch packs etc that you can order. All of these items are available in the likes of Aquisitions and Total Food Equipment stores, but we have these high quality products available to you at a much cheaper price. Get some of your Christmas shopping done easy as!

Order forms are attached to your newsletter with pictures of each of the items. All orders must be handed into the school office with the money or internet deposits by 3pm on Wednesday 7th of December. Orders will need to be collected from the school workshop on Thursday 15th of December between 12.00pm and 12.30pm or at 5 Huntly Rd after that.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jolene Casey, Ph 4862262 or 021 399 144, [email protected]
