Title: Bringing in the RamsArtist: Greg BrennanMedium: Oil on canvasPrice: $1,200About: Unavailable

Title: Wet City AbstractArtist: Margaret BeckMedium: Oil on canvasPrice: $1,900About: This piece is a celebration of my love of contemporary objects which inherently are new and original and can be used with a modern theme.

The wet city theme was chosen to bring out the sharp light and dark whilst incorporating geometrical aspects of a busy metropolis.

Title: Mundi Mundi Plains at SunsetArtist: Helen BarnettMedium: Oil on canvasPrice: NFSAbout: The Mundi Mundi Plains sit perched about four kilometres from Silverton. From the top of the hill, the flat lands of the Mundi Mundi plains stretch out and I aimed to recapture the vibrancy of the amazing sunsets to share.

Established in 2011 the Outback Archies is an exhibition aimed at providing artistic opportunities for artists living in rural, regional

and remote NSW.

Outback Arts, in coordination with Orana Arts, West Darling Arts and the Moorambilla Festival, works to showcase the contributing artists to both a local and visiting audience through the exhibition.

Artworks are from the 3 contributing arts boards of Outback Arts (shires of Bourke, Cobar, Coonamble, Walgett and Warren), Orana Arts (shires of Dubbo, Gilgandra, Mid-Western Regional Council, Narromine and Warrumbungle) and the West Darling Arts region

(shires of Broken Hill, Central Darling, Wentworth and Unincorporated NSW).

Prizes are given in the categories of Photographic & Digital Art, 3-D Design & Sculpture and Open Art (painting, drawing, etching

and sketching). A first and second prize is awarded to winning artists in each section as well as a People’s Choice Award and an

award to the most Outstanding Indigenous Artist.

Title: Coolabah ShadeArtist: Corey BrooksMedium: Acrylic on canvasPrice: $350About: The “Coolabah shade” piece is taken from an area close by called “mays bend” a common summer area for swimming, Camp fires and swinging out of trees. I’ve always been fascinated with capturing light and shade and in this piece I’m attempting to foster a cooler atmosphere while exploring my love of the bush.

Title: Herd MentalityArtist: Rachel CantMedium: pastel on canvasPrice: $740About: this image was inspired by the tones and textures of Brahman cattle. I liked the idea of them quietly contemplating and watching. The cattle observe the audience in a sense.

Title: Liquid LandscapeArtist: Sarah DuganMedium: Photography - pigment printPrice: $400About: Liquid Landscape is an abstraction of space through the stripping back and dissection of forms to disorientate the viewers understanding of space. Agoraphobia becomes a main aspect of an individual’s interaction with the Australian landscape. Liquid Landscape recreates this experience with the disorientated flattened forms causing anxiety and confusion.

Title: Scattered RadianceArtist: Ange BunnerMedium: Oil on canvasPrice: NFSAbout: This image captures the magic moment when a bird perches precariously on a child. The artwork is about capturing those magic moments that happen just for an instant in life.

Title: LoleepArtist: Sarah DuganMedium: Photography - pigment printPrice: $1,150About: Lolleep becomes a meditative piece through the stripped back minimalist composition. The work looks to the ‘weird melancholia’ (Marcus Clark) of Australia depicting a moody, contemplative and ominous landscape. It brings forth questions of how an environment is constructed and interpreted through a conjunction of physical place, history and cultural and individual imaginations.

Title: Fruits of the EarthArtist: Deirdre EdwardsMedium: Intaglio etching and watercolourPrice: NFSAbout: Along the banks of our river systems lay a multitude of vineyards, a patchwork within the earth, rows upon rows of ancient vines producing a rich reward from it’s bountiful fruits. I am inspired by objects within the landscape that have a story to tell. The vines reflect the toiling of the earth over many years. The river maps it way through a patchwork of orchards feeding the ancient vines along its path.

Title: Yardstick III Artist: Amanda JohnsonMedium: Acrylic on canvasPrice: $2,800About: A familiar feature in nearly every Australian backyard the iconic Hills Hoist is often a ‘yardstick’ of persons or family’s life. This ‘ yardstick’ is one at Mount Gipps Station and would have seen plenty of washing and stories to tell. There’s something timeless about the Hill Hoist and its place in Australian history.

Title: No Coal Seam GasArtist: Susan LeonardMedium: acrylic on canvasPrice: $440About: At the moment I am fascinated with yellow. I started this painting with images of wild life and then started layering shapes. I eventually started laying down large yellow channels which made me think of aerial photography. At the time the issue of coal seam gas was being discussed in our district. After watching the film ‘Gas Lands’ the image of water on fire struck me. So I added the flaming ‘Ws’

I visited this location and spent some time there looking around and reflecting on what a beautiful and peaceful area it was, a refuge for animals to come and drink or find shelter in the rocks and trees. I was inspired to paint this scene to call attention to the conservation of this sacred place as well as documenting its beauty for others to appreciate.

Title: Mappo’sArtist: Vikki MurrayMedium: photography on canvasPrice: $350About: This is a study in texture and composition, and hopefully encapsulates the aging beauty of a classic old car. Australians are great collectors, there is so much love, admiration and hoarding of the wonderful Holden’s of the 50’s and 60’s, I hope to express this love in this work as well as another fantastic opportunity to highlight oxidization through the photographic process.

Title: JanuaryArtist: Melissa MurrayMedium: pastel on paperPrice: $864About: Inspired by the January bushfires in the Warrumbungles. This artwork is a result of a great night of painting, with great food, great wine and family. This has elements of burnt charcoal from burnt wood. Mix it with red wine and pastel is how great the elements of life can be.

Title: Hawks Nest ChapelArtist: Vikki MurrayMedium: photographyPrice: $350About: Built in two days for a scene from the indie film “Goddess of 67”, the corrugated iron chapel is one of my favourite haunts on the opal fields. Title: Ode to MalalaArtist: David PickardMedium: wood burning - timber and steelPrice: NFSAbout: The motivation to create ‘Ode to Malala’ is self explanatory. The horrifying outcome of her attempt to appeal for some equality for girls and women in her homeland, (where a religious zealot shot her in the head), should have been cause for her to forever remain silent. Her courage in continuing her fight after recovering from her injuries and the strength and dignity demonstrated by this young woman are an inspiration for people everywhere.

Title: The VisionaryArtist: David PickardMedium: woodburning - timber and steelPrice: $450About: Dr Fred Hollows was ‘The Visionary’. His awareness of the acute impact curable eye disease has on the communities where it exists, led to a program for eye care. This has had a profound effect, not only in Australia’s indigenous communities, but right across the globe.

David Pickard - Bourke (Outback Arts)About the artist:I’ve been an artist for over thirty years, however, I rarely find the time to create my own work. I teach in secondary school and my creative efforts were generally focussed on my students and their attempts to realise their visions. For the past two years I’ve been fortunate to find myself teaching in Western NSW. During this time I have been able to pursue some of my own creative interests. I was able to develop my skills with wood burning and this has allowed me to create narrative portraits. I hope the images I’ve created engage the audience and invite debate and comment. To contact David phone 0401 464 770.
