LABELLING BELONGINGSHow many people does it take to change a light bulb?Depending on your pay and purpose, trying to get someone else to change their behaviour can be called coaching, training, teaching, parenting, advertising, therapy, guidance, policing, leadership ..… or nagging!
While there are all sorts of wonderful things I’d rather talk to children or parents about, I find myself, all too often, chasing stray lunchboxes and litter. So I’m em-bracing my own label and unleashing the Good Nag for a mid-year spruce-up.
The Good Nag’s Tip of the Week LOVE YOUR LABELCheck all your containers and clothing – is the label still clear?Could you start giving this responsibility to your child? Once they can neatly use a permanent marker, they’ll enjoy writing labels and start to notice when it wears off.
Have your own favourite nagging tip? Send it to The Good Nag aka Jenny Cullen at [email protected]

... Premier’s Reading Challenge 2014 | KIM WOODSIt’s on AGAIN! The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge is an initiative that aims to encourage students to develop a love of reading and enables them to experience quality literature. Each year, the challenge runs from the 1st February to the 1st September. Students will need to complete a set amount of reading to meet the Challenge:Many of the books are available to borrow from the school library. What a fantastic opportunity to expose your child to new and wonderful titles and encourage reading for enjoyment in your household.
If you require any further information or help entering books etc, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Happy reading.

Our school photos will be taken on Wednesday, 6th AugustFor the convenience of our school community advancedlife have now introduced Online Ordering. School photos can now be ordered and paid for using a secure online Web Portal. Please note: Photos can also be be purchased in the traditional manner using an envelope.
The preference of our school is that Orders and Payments by made through the Web Portal as this reduces the administration and associated security issues related to the return of cash and envelopes. To place an order visit www.advancedlife.com.au and enter the code MKE 2BF BQR. A full set of instructions on how to order can be found on the back of the order flyer. This code can also be found printed on the envelopes supplied by advancedlife. Please be aware that:
1) Sibling/Family photos may be ordered online or via an envelope. To ensure a smoothly run photography day, online orders for siblings/family photos will be cut off 48 hours before our photography day to allow a list of students who require sibling/family photographs taken to be compiled. Sibling/family photos can also be ordered after the online cut-off date using an envelope available from the school office and enclosing payment.
2) All online orders should be placed before our day of photography.
3) The online code above Web Portal may also be used to order sports and other group photos at any time.
All online orders placed through Web Portal will be returned to school for collection.

ee Announcing: Interim Conductor, Miss Cassandra WhiteCassie White graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2007 (BMus). She has since attained a Grad Dip Ed from UNE, her Masters in Music Psychology in Education from Uni of Sheffield, UK, and is now currently doing her PhD in Music Education and Psychology. She has also attained her Associate Diploma in Music Performance (A.Mus.A) in 2003 and has been teaching piano, flute and clarinet for over a decade on the Northern Beaches and North Shore.
Her conducting experience includes various primary and high schools on the northern beaches, as well as teaching at an international school in Bangkok in 2011. Many of her bands have attained Gold Medal placings at the local and state band competitions, including two bands attaining first place at the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod in 2010. She is currently conducting at Balgowlah North PS and NSSWE.
Please make Cassie feel welcome in her new role. This position will go to tender after the AGM in November 2014.
Stage Band There will no practice this Thursday afternoon, but Mr Brendan Collins will start taking the Stage Band from Week 3.
Term 3 Rehearsal Schedule
At this stage the music committee is trying to coordinate a second practice time for the Junior Band.No percussion (lunch program) in Terms 3 and 4 - our regrets.
As ever, if you have been a parent volunteer, your assistance is INVALUABLE. Please continue to support the band in any way you can. We need parents to be at every practice session to ensure that the children are making the most of their time with the tutors, not to mention the setting up and packing away which is quite labour intensive.
Do you have a child who plays a musical instrument who would like to join the music program? Let us know! Please contact:
Music Committee Convenor: Bec Heather, at [email protected].
Music Committee Secretary: Martha Maclaurin-Wood, at [email protected].
Music Committee Bookkeeper: Halina Royle, at [email protected].
Band InvoicesBand invoices were sent out late last term and are now due. Thank you for your payments. Questions regarding payments should be directed to Halina Royle, at [email protected].
Music enriches the children’s school experience and is not possible without parent’s support and them volunteering their time.
