NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS Thank you to the parents who indicated they were willing/able to assist with transport tomorrow to the NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee http://www.naidoc.org.au/about/naidoc-history/ ) week celebrations at Murrumburrah Public School. A reminder that transport will leave Wombat PS at 9:30am and then leave Murrumburrah PS at 2pm. With parents assisting in transport it saves each CHILD $10 in bus fees. As a gesture of thanks a small monetary donation to your child’s driver may be appreciated on the day to assist in fuel costs. BOOKWEEK Yesterday we celebrated Bookweek with our annual dress up day. Thank you to the parents who assisted their children in preparing for this. Well done to Ebony (Wicked Witch of the West) and Claire (Snow Bear) who won the Best Dressed prize with Owen (Ninja) and Dash (Mouse from the Rescuers) came runner up. VISIT FROM THE DIRECTOR On Tuesday the Cootamundra Area Relieving Director, Mr Jim Roworth, attended Wombat PS to share information regarding his role and responsibilities with the change from Senior Education Directors. Mr Roworth explained that no longer is a Director in charge of a ‘kingdom’ rather they are responsible for assisting individual principals in professional learning and development in a supportive environment. The Director will still be signing off on the yearly Principal Assessment Reviews that each principal goes through and other administrational tasks but their role is now only 20% admin and 80% support. RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP On Monday the children will be visited by a Pet Educator and their suitability tested dog. They will use multimedia, role play, song and story to provide children with stimulating activities to teach a wide range of concepts, including: When dogs should be left alone Things we should not do to dogs How can you tell if a dog is happy, frightened or angry A safe way to approach and greet a dog What to do if approached by an unknown or aggressive dog. The program will also introduce and develop concepts such as choosing an appropriate pet, general welfare and husbandry, the importance of identification and registration, confinement and housing and exercise and training. WHATS HAPPENING IN TERM 3 ?

SCHOOL NEWS cont SCHOOL PHOTOS The annual school photos will be held on Thursday next week. All order forms and payments are now due into the school. Photos will be held in the morning. Children are to wear full winter uniform: BOYS: Grey cargo pants, grey socks, black leather shoes, green polo shirt, green fleecy top GIRLS: Green skorts with green stockings OR Green school pants, black leather shoes, white socks, green polo shirt, green fleecy top, green hair accessories. NB: Green socks for girls and a white long sleeved shirt/skivvy under the green polo shirt is permitted.

FROM THE KITCHEN and GARDEN Today the primary children made Lemon Curd. Thank you to Sienna for her recipe and to the families that donated lemons and jars. The infants children were in the garden today though, due to the inclement weather, their lesson was held indoors. Here they learnt about photosynthesis. We have had communication from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program outlining important changes to it’s running. The changes include: A Kitchen or Garden Specialist need not be outside the school and whole meals need not be served each week. These changes have been brought about due to most schools in the program giving feedback regarding difficulties in sustainability. At Wombat PS we aim to have whole school lunches each fortnight. This is well above what chosen ‘lighthouse’ schools do. Bondi Public School (where training is undertaken for all SAKG specialists) no longer serves whole class lunches, only taste sessions for the class that cooked. I would like to thank EVERYONE who has made the SAKG program at Wombat PS such a success. When visitors come to the school they are amazed at the opportunities our students have and this is only through a lot of hard work from teachers and volunteer parents. Thank you!

PRODUCE STALL We are now selling produce at the Wombat Pub. Please swing past and pick up some freshly harvested veggies from our school garden and the community. We will also be making goodies in the kitchen to sell. If you have any produce at home that you would like to donate, please feel free to drop it off at the school. We will package it up, price it and take it down to the pub. The proceeds will be going to the schools’ Kitchen Garden Program. We are also selling excess eggs from the school for $3 a dozen. If you would like some please drop in and grab a bargin! A big, big thank you to Garry and Brian for allowing us to sell our produce through the pub. We are in need of egg cartons. Please send in to school if you have any at home. Thank you

HOW 2 LEARN It is pleasing to see not only the staff using ‘Learnish’ (language encouraging learning) but also the students. We are seeing children pulling themselves up when they are distracted, including others in their learning and taking noticing as a key to being in the right place at the right time. Today, parents have a flyer on the new chapter: Your Learning Home. Please take time to read through this as home is just as important as the school environment for learning.
