We turn the calendar to another month and wonder. What has happened? Where are we going? When will things be different? It seems to me that things have been different for so long now but yet in reality it is not too long. We are establishing a new normal that still puts us on edge. Much like the apostles in today’s first reading for Sunday Mass, from the Acts of the Apostles (2:1-4a, 36-41) we too ask, “what are we to do?” We are being pushed or pulled or asked to change some of our ways. The words from our second reading today (1 Peter 2:20b-25) also resonant in our response to this whole situation, “If you are patient when you suffer for doing good, this is a grace before God.” Oh how we need patience during this time. Patience with one another. Patience with civic authorities who are trying their best to keep our communities safe from further medical disasters. Patience with the Church as it too tries to figure out what to do and how to go about it while keeping the safety for all people in mind. Yes, patience is definitely needed because we have no answers and not everyone will be pleased with what happens! As we know, sometimes the only place we have to turn is to our faith, especially when facing the unknown. We seek out the Lord even as we ask why! As we listen to today’s Gospel reading (John 10:1-10), the shepherd being the gatekeeper, we trust even more so that the blessings and life we seek can only be found with the Lord, the Good Shepherd, as we enter through Christ the Gate. We know this but it is also so difficult especially when we feel constricted to begin with. Hence, I think it is a perfect time to turn to the Our Blessed Mother who guides us and comforts us, who encourages us as go seeking in life. Especially under the title of Our Lady Star of the Sea, we know she will guide us to safe harbor and to her Son, Jesus. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, is asking Catholics to take the time and pray the rosary each day throughout the month of May. Maybe, for some, it is a time to rediscover this beautiful prayer, so simple yet so profound. As more families are spending more time together, praying the rosary as a family is ideal! So many petitions and hopes we can offer to Our Blessed Mother and to the Jesus as we pray

the rosary each day. I encourage you to please take up the Holy Father’s advice and pray the rosary each day during May. The time is takes to pray the rosary each day can bring some calm to your day, help you to focus on what is important, and know that Our Blessed Mother is hearing our praying and taking all our prayers to her Son, Jesus Christ. Give it a try! Morning, noon or night…anytime is good! ** The Pope is also asking us to say another prayer, he has composed, after we pray the rosary. O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering, and persevered in your faith. “Protectress of the Roman people”, you know our needs, and we know that you will provide, so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. For he took upon himself our suffering, and burdened himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.

** Thank you for your support of the parish. It is very much appreciated and we try to keep up with the bills that support our ministries that we still perform during this time. ** Find the blessings this week, enter through the Gate the that is the Lord and be at peace. Msgr. Gary Smetanka

A prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that you are present

in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things

and I desire to receive you in my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there

and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

The Memorare

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known

that anyone who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help, or sought thy intercession

was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence,

I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;

to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,

despise not my petitions,

but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.
