The GRAND KNIGHT’s Report

Brothers,

We have been off to a quick start with our

Council as we launched our new Fraternal Year.

In September, we supported our annual Family

Day Picnic and BBQ under the joint leadership of

Brothers Tom and Robert Brownlie. A full report

is included in this bulletin.

Youth Dances were held in September, October

and November with a number of our Knights and a

couple of our wives helping to chaperone these

events. These dances are put on by our Parish

Youth Director and supported by our Council

under the leadership of Brother Murray Harris.

Also in September our Installation of Officers

ceremony was conducted by our District Deputy

Allan Sims along with Father Mike who of course

is our Chaplain.

Our General Meetings resumed after our summer

break as did the return of our breakfasts. We held

a breakfast in September and again in October.

Our breakfast is very popular with members of our

parish as we have served almost 350 people so far

this year after only 2 events.

Brother Murray Harris has taken the lead role on this

important event – but is backed by a large number of

our Knights with the support I might add by a number

of members from the Spirit of Mt. Carmel Ladies

Auxiliary. We are extremely grateful for their

support!

The first of our 3 planned Fish Fry’s will take place on

November 23 and Brother Gary Hawco will again

assume his role as Chairman of this event.

These events are not only great parish events to bring

our fellow parishioners together; they also raise the

profile of our Council within our parish family. They

also contribute significantly to our ability to raise

money to support our parish, and the many charities

we support.

I encourage all members to look into ways in which

they can make a contribution towards our Council. If

only 2 hours per month – would make a huge

difference and you will feel great doing it.

I encourage all of our members to get engaged and

involved!

Our Annual Dues

We have started the process of collecting our annual

dues. It is important that all members pay their

dues on time – and please don’t add to the work

load of people who have to sometimes ‘chase

people’ to comply. Our dues are $40 per year and

what most people don’t realize is that our Council is

only keeping 50% of these funds. (We are assessed

by the State and Supreme Offices for the rest)

You can pay by attending our November General

Meeting, or dropping off your dues to the Parish

Office to the attention of Barry St Pierre or Ken St

Denis.

– it’s current and kept updated regularly. We have

added Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages

further modernizing our way in which we can keep

our members informed.

KNIGHTS OF THE MONTH

October 2018: Brother Murray Harris

In the last year,

Brother Murray

has assumed the

role of our lead in

supporting our

Parish Youth

Dances which are

held here the first

Friday of the month from September through June.

Brother Murray has also assumed the responsibility

of managing our parish breakfast this year. This

provided some relief for our Treasurer Br.

Jonathan, and Brother Murray’s organizational

skills and ‘hands on’ approach to getting the job

done is already evident after only 1 breakfast.

Brother Murray also played an active role in

supporting our Parish Family Day in early

September by attending all pre planning meetings

and was the lead in the purchasing of the food

which fed approx. 400 members of our Parish.

For his continued support of our Parish, and our

Council I am very pleased to present Brother

Murray with the Knight of the Month award.

goes to the team of

Tom and Robert

Brownlie. They co-

chaired this year's

Parish Picnic and

Family day event which drew close to 400 people

from our parish community. This effort stated in

June and required a lot of organizing and pulling

some 40 workers together to make the event a

success.

While in the middle of this effort, Brother Robert

took the time to get married - so congratulations

again to the Father - Son Team of Tom and Robert.

21st Annual Knights of Columbus Fundraising Banquet

in support of the Windsor Essex HospiceOur Council was

represented recently by

our Grand Knight his wife

Sandra, Brother Peter Lee

and his wife Michelle at

the Knights of Columbus

Hospice Fundraiser

Dinner. Councils from

Windsor and Essex County have supported this

cause and annual event for 21 years.

This year our pooled efforts generated a cheque in

excess of $12,000 which was presented to the

outgoing Executive Director of Hospice, Carol

Derbyshire. Ms. Derbyshire is pictured with our

Grand Knight following the presentation.

Carol as reported through the media is stepping

down at the end of the year referred to the Knights

of Columbus as her ‘White Knights’ in showing

appreciation of the support she has received over

theyears.

Parish Family Day Picnic 2018 - Submitted by Br. Tom Brownlie

I would like to first off, thank the vast number of

Brother Knights, some who came out early on a

Sunday morning and help setup for the picnic to

those who stayed around to the end and help clean

up.

I counted close to 25 and likely missed several

other who helped. There were also a large number

of other volunteers to thank, from the large

number of members of the Ladies auxiliary, the

high school ministry and their coordinators. Other

parish or community members who also helped.

The success of this picnic was solely based on

these volunteers.

We served Hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries

and Drinks to over 400 members of our greater

church community. If the weather had co-operated

we likely would have ran out of food.

And finally a special thanks to the members of the

committee who went out of their way to help,

either by Checking on supplies, shopping for

supplies, lining up events, some simply by

attending meetings and helping to steer the

committee.
