THE PIVOTAL PLAYERS
Thursdays, 7pm to 8:30pm January 12 - March 30
in St. Michael Hall Hosted by Seminarian Chris Masla
Bishop Robert Barron’s CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players showcases a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of western civilization. • St. Francis of Assisi, the Reformer, radically and literally lived as Jesus commanded
to transform the Church. • St. Thomas Aquinas, the Theologian, demonstrated that faith and reason at not at
odds, as they come from the same source. • St. Catherine of Siena, the Mystic, gave testimony to the reality of the spiritual di-
mension here and beyond. • Blessed John Henry Newman, the Convert, left a prestigious career to seek and
preach the apostolic faith. • G.K. Chesterton, the Evangelist, publicly, humbly, and humorously announced the
paradoxes and truth of Christianity. • Michelangelo, the Artist, dramatically demonstrated that beauty and creativity are
a primary route of access to God. This program is free to attend. Contact Chris, ext. 105 or [email protected] for more information.

The Star of Bethlehem The unfolding of the story of the Incarnation continues today as the Church celebrates the Epiph-any. The tale of the magi from the East is one of the most fasci-nating in all of scripture. It has much to teach us about what we can come to expect, even in cir-cumstances and places that may seem insignificant or small. Bethlehem was a tiny town, what we might refer to today as a town without even one stop light. Yet it is over this seemingly insignificant place that the guiding star stops in its own search for the place where the Savior would be born. Too often we fail to recognize the fact that the star of Bethlehem comes to rest in our everyday lives, where we can ex-perience God's presence, manifested in ever new ways. Epiphany calls us to shake off our stupor and recognize the One who comes to save us.
