First Sunday of Lent
Week of February 21, 2021
Listen to the Word (Mark 1:12-15)
As you hear this very short Gospel reading, what words or phrases
strike you? What image or story does the reading prompt you to
recall?
Look into your life
Question for children: What will you do this Lent to become more
like Jesus?
Question for youth: Lent gives us a chance to do things differently
– to "go to the desert." How can you make Lent a time for growing
in faith?
Question for adults: What is the one area of your life which you
most want to "reform" as you get ready to embrace the Gospel,
what is it?
Activities for the week:
Take these activities to further reflect:
Talk about ways family members can become more like Jesus
during the season of Lent. Create a family prayer space in your
home. Read from the gospels each day. Have each family
member choose a Lenten practice and write it on a piece of
paper. The papers can be folded and placed in the prayer
space as a reminder.
In Baptism, we turn away from sin and selfishness to live in
love according to God's plan. Recall with your child the story of
his or her Baptism. Share family photos.
Christians make a new beginning in Baptism. Discuss these
questions: What new beginnings could our family make this
year? In order to make these new beginnings, what will we
have to do?
Whenever the family gathers to pray this week, pray for those
who are preparing for Baptism or full membership in the
Catholic Church and for their sponsors.
Community and Family Catechesis
There will not be a penance service during Lent due to
COVID-19. There will be an additional opportunity to
receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Friday
from 3-5 p.m.

During Lent, there will be Mass Monday through Friday
at 9:00 a.m. in English. There will also be a Mass in
Spanish on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m.

the paschal mystery. Catechumens are led to the sacraments of initiation by means of the rite of election, the scrutinies, and cate-chesis. The faithful, listening more intently to the word of
God and devoting themselves to prayer, are prepared through a spirit of repentance to renew their baptismal
promises” (Ceremonial of Bishops, 249).

Cuando escuchas esta corta lectura del Evangelio, ¿qué palabras o
frases te llaman la atención? ¿Qué imagen o relato te hace recordar
esta lectura?
Ve tu vida
Pregunta para los niños: ¿Qué harás en esta Cuaresma para
asemejarte más a Jesús?
Pregunta para los jóvenes: La Cuaresma nos da una oportunidad
de hacer las cosas de otra manera, de "ir al desierto". ¿Cómo
puedes hacer que la Cuaresma sea un tiempo de crecimiento en la
fe?
Pregunta para los adultos: ¿Cuál es el área de su vida que más
desea "reformar" mientras se prepara para abrazar el Evangelio?

Tomen estas actividades para reflexionar más:
Conversen sobre las maneras en que los miembros de la familia
pueden asemejarse más a Jesús durante el tiempo de
Cuaresma. Cree un espacio de oración familiar en su hogar.
Lea fragmentos de los Evangelios todos los días. Pida a cada
miembro de la familia que elija una práctica de Cuaresma y la

Prayers are powerful and important for those in our parish community who are ill or need our support. In an effort to ensure our prayer request list is up to date, at the end of each month we will remove anyone from the list for whom we do not have a current request. Thank you for your cooperation and your prayers for our parishioners in need.

These days of pandemic we want to pray particularly for all who are sick with COVID-19 and all who have died because of the pandemic.
