Community Catechesis Active waiting First Sunday of Advent Week of November 30, 2014 Listen to the Word (Mark 13:33 —- 37) As you hear this reading, what words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What words are repeated over and over again? Look into your life Question for children: What special things do you do to get ready for a visitor at your house? What things can you do like that to get ready for Jesus? Question for youth: What is one thing that you can do this week to help you remember that Jesus is coming? Question for adults: When you're getting ready to receive a guest, what are some things you do? How do you apply this to receiving Christ? Activities for this week Take these activities to further reflect on the Sunday readings: � Make an Advent calendar. Together as a family, write what you will do each day to get ready for Jesus' coming. � As a family, make an Advent wreath. The Advent wreath is a circle of evergreens with four candles. You can use a styrofoam ring for the base. Hollow out four holes to fit the candles. Four candles identify the weeks of Advent: three are purple, for the long wait; one pink, for the third Sunday to express our joy that we are halfway through our Advent waiting. Decorate with artificial evergreen twigs and berries. Place the Advent wreath on your family table and light it when you pray during advent. � Discuss the following question with your family: What will it take for us to get ready to celebrate Christ at Christmas?

It’s the beginning of our annual Christmas Giving Tree gift collection. For many years, during the season of Advent, the parishioners of Our Lady of LaSalette Church have been

sharing God’s love by reaching out to our neighbors in need. Each ornament on the Giving Tree expresses a need to a child in our community. Please help us “undecorate” the Giv-ing Tree by:

• Taking one or more ornament tags • Buying the gifts listed on the tags • Wrapping the gifts • Return the wrapped gifts (with the orna-

ment tag securely attached) to the Parish Center on Dec 6/7 or Dec 13/14.

Gifts will be delivered after 10:30 Mass on December 21st. Thank you for your generosity in making a child’s Christmas a little brighter.
