It is in Scripture that we discover God’s guiding voice. Take time daily to pray, read Scripture, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal its message for you. Weekly: Attend Mass each Sunday and Holy Day. Do whatever is necessary so you can receive Communion. This is key. Monthly: When we hold our selves accountable, our actions become more pleasing to God. Seek forgiveness each month in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). Annually: In our noisy wor ld, it can be hard to hear God’s voice. Find a Catholic retreat center near you and get away with God. Or, spend a whole day in a favorite park or vacation spot praying and listening. Center your day around God.

Prayer for Catechists God of our fathers and mothers, today we mark Catechetical Sunday, the day we recommit ourselves to teaching and forming disciples to continue your work in this world. In the beginning, you created man to please you and offer you companionship. We turned away from you without knowing the great love you had for us. Help us to recapture that understanding of your love for us and for creation. Give us wisdom to hand on to the next generation that love you freely give us. We ask all that is good to come upon our catechetical leaders and the people whom they lead to the faith. We ask all this in the name of the primary teacher of the faith, Jesus the Christ.

Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor

La lectura del Libro del Eclesiástico de hoy es bastante corta y puntual. Perdonar es la clave para una vida feliz, pero incluso más importante que una vida feliz, esto es lo que manda Dios. Aquí están las palabras del capítulo 27 del Eclesiástico:

Ira y enojo son cosas odiosas, Sin embargo el pecador los abraza a ellos fuerte. El vengativo sufrirá la venganza del Señor, Por el recuerdo de sus pecados en detalle. Perdone la injusticia de su vecino; entonces cuando usted ore, sus pecados serán perdonados. ¿Podría alguien alimentar su ira en contra de otro y es-perar sanación del Señor? ¿Podría cualquiera negar misericordia a otro como al mismo? ¿Puede uno buscar perdón por sus propios pecados, Una si uno que no es más que carne alimenta ira? ¿Quién perdonará sus pecados? Recuerda tus últimos días la enemistad de tu lado; Recuerda la muerte y decadencia y cesa de pecar! Piensa en los Mandamientos y no odies a tu prójimo; Recuerda la Más Grande Alianza y pasa por alto las falt-as.

Una vez leí en algún lugar que no ser capaz de perdonar en ningún tiempo es como tomar veneno para ratas en su interior mismo y esperar que afuera muera la rata! Esto es verdad, como in sacerdote de 25 años, yo miraba la tristeza y la ac-ción corrosiva del mal de no poder Perdonar. Yo he luchador con esto mismo. Yo digo que el mal lo ciega a uno a las ense-ñanzas de Dios, es decir, al plan de Dios de rescatar del resen-timiento e infelicidad. Creo que en uno de los salmistas que dijo:" algo mortal se ha adherido a mí ".Créanme, sé porque puede ser difícil e incluso parecer imposible perdonar. Yo no hago juicios porque tengo que mirarme en el espejo y así cada día saber lo que haría al ocuparme de las injusticias hacia mi o a mis seres queridos. Tengo una cosa o dos de cómo la gen-te sufre de manera tranquila y desesperada al no poder perdo-nar. Por ejemplo, tengo in amigo sacerdote, cuya Hermana fue asesinada. En mi estupidez le hizo la pregunta in poco demasiado pronto en su proceso de duelo. Le pregunté si él ya había perdonado al agresor que ya estaba en la cárcel. ¡Yo tengo la suerte de estar vivo hoy, él me dio una mirada que me sugería que solo quería matarme! Tuve que respetar sus naturales sentimiento de vacío y dolor. También tuve que respetar su tiempo. Hoy, él ha perdonado al asesino pero está muy feliz que esté en la cárcel para no dañar a otros. Creo también en esa madre hermosa en el sur cuya hija fue baleada y muerta por un loco que mató también a un número de per-sonas que estaban en oración en la Iglesia. Ella dijo que tenía que perdonar al hombre, no solo porque ella es cristiana, sino también porque no quería el dolor y los problemas que le vienen a uno cuando no perdona por el resto de su vida. La próxima vez que se diga a usted mismo " yo no podría perdonar eso y lo otro por lo que él o ella hizo " eche una Mirada a lectura de arriba de Sirácides y lea el desafío libera-dor de la Palabra de Dios. Oremos los unos por los otros a estar listos para perdonar y pasar por alto las faltas de los demás. ¡Esto es lo que Dios quiere y sabe mejor!

From the Pastor’s Desk Today’s first reading from the book of Sirach is rather short and to the point. Forgiveness is key to a happy life, but even more important than a happy life, it is what God com-mands. Here are the words from the 27th chapter of Sirach: Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight. The vengeful will suffer the LORD's vengeance, for he remembers their sins in detail. Forgive your neighbor's injustice; then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven. Could anyone nourish anger against another and expect healing from the LORD? Could anyone refuse mercy to another like himself, can he seek pardon for his own sins? If one who is but flesh cherishes wrath, who will forgive his sins? Remember your last days, set enmity aside; remember death and decay, and cease from sin! Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor; remember the Most High's covenant, and overlook faults. I once read somewhere that not being able to forgive for any given time is like taking rat poison inside yourself and hoping that the rat outside dies! It is true. As a priest of 25 years, I have watched the sadness and corrosiveness of the evil of not being able to forgive. I have struggled with it myself. I say evil because it blinds one to God’s teaching, namely God’s rescue plan from resentment and unhappi-ness. I think of one of the psalmists who says “some deadly thing has attached itself to me!” Believe me, I know why it can be hard or even seem impossible to forgive. I make no judgments because I have to look in the mirror as well each and every day and wonder what I would do in dealing with injustice toward me or my loved ones. I have a learned a thing or two about how people suffer in quiet and desperate ways in not being able to forgive. For in-stance, I have a priest friend whose sister was murdered. In my stupidity, I asked the question a little too early in his mourning process. I asked him if he forgave the assailant who was now in jail. I am lucky to be alive today as he gave me a look that suggested he just might kill me! I had to respect his quite natural feelings of anger, emptiness and pain. I also had to respect his timetable. Today, he has for-given the murderer but he is very happy he is in jail so as not to harm others. I also think of that beautiful mother in the South whose daughter was shot and killed by a madman who also killed a number of people while at prayer in church. She said that she had to forgive the man not only because she is a Christian, but also because she didn’t want the pain and the problems that come to one who can’t for-give for the rest of one’s life. Next time you say to yourself, “I could never forgive so and so for what he or she did,” take a look at the reading above from Sirach and read the challenging yet liberating word of God. Let us pray for one another to be ready to forgive and overlook the faults of others. It is what God wants and God knows best!
