Equality and Diversity News Over a third of Britons admit ageist behaviour in new study More than a third of British people admit that they have discriminated against others because of their age, according to new research on everyday ageism, with those in their 30s most guilty. Those in their 30s are most guilty of using ageist language, with almost half admitting to having been ageist at some point. But while more than half of the over-50s surveyed believe that ageist language like this is unintentional, most say it has made them feel less valued (68%), unhappy (60%) and alienated (52%). The report found that Southampton was the most ageist city in the UK, with 46% of residents admitting they had discriminated against someone on the basis of their age, and Bristol the least, with just 20% admitting ageism. More over-50s living in the West Midlands (42%) and Yorkshire (41%) believe that the problem of ageism is getting worse, more so than in any other UK region. Caroline Abrahams, charity director of Age UK, said: “Ageism must become as unacceptable as every other form of discrimination.” Shelley Hopkinson, public affairs manager at Independent Age, agreed, adding: “part of the problem is that people often don’t even realise that the language they’re using can be ageist or cause offence”.

GTA Doncaster Welcome SATA GTA Doncaster was pleased to welcome Jamie Taylor, Regional Sales Manager for SATA, to spend the day with our Accident Repair Paint Level 2 Apprentices. Jamie spoke about SATA spray gun technology in class and was asked to share his career journey, which began with Mercedes as an Accident Repair Paint Apprentice, and eventually took him on to travel to many different countries worldwide. Our Learners found Jamie to be a great inspiration as they took the opportunity to consider and discuss their own career aspirations. In the afternoon, Jamie took the Learners into the workshop to demonstrate the various spray guns that SATA have available. A number of the Apprentices took the opportunity to try out this cutting edge spray gun technology and thoroughly enjoyed the day using this market leading equipment. SATA have been pleased to present GTA with a series of spray guns in order to help further the skill set of the Accident

Repair Paint Apprentices. We look forward to developing a strong working relationship with SATA in moving forward in

order to facilitate the best possible learning experience at GTA.

DRIVER CPC PERIODIC TRAINING We have passed our first major milestone for Driver CPC training. As of September 2014 all LGV drivers should be in possession of a Driver Qualification Card to prove they have carried out the required 35 hours of Driver CPC approved training, if they are driving professionally. Once issued this card should be carried when driving an in-scope LGV commercially. The courses continue to be well attended with the programming of 5-day block courses throughout the year, which have been very well attended, some fully-booked. The block courses have attracted mainly LGV licence holders wanting to return to the industry as well as other operatives who require Driver CPC training ‘all in one go’.

TRANSPORT MANAGER CERTIFICATE OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE (CPC) The Transport Manager CPC course continues to be well attended, and have returned good pass rates – especially for those candidates who undertake a ten-day study course. One recent alteration has been the extension to the Passenger (PCV) study course from the previous 3 days tuition offered, increasing upto the first 4 days of study, this option is available on every course. We programmed a full ten-day study course for Passenger candidates in preparation for the CPC exams. We intend to offer the full study course for Passenger delegates at least once a year, dependant on demand.

TRANSPORT MANAGER 2-DAY REFRESHER COURSE We have noticed a demand for CPC refresher courses through various channels. These courses are programmed on request at mutual convenience and can be tailored to meet individual organisation’s needs. Course content can include such subjects as: Drivers’ Hours Rules, Operator Licensing, Working Time Directive, Vehicle Maintenance and many more modules. Sometimes Transport Managers are requesting this refresher training on a voluntary basis to keep up to date. The Certificates issued to course delegates are recognised by official bodies such as the Traffic Commissioners Central Licensing Office as verification of attendance on a legitimate Refresher course. For enquiries regarding transport & logistics courses contact Charlotte McLaughlin or Annette Scott on 01302 832831.

ADR (CARRIAGE OF DANGEROUS GOODS BY ROAD)

ADR Initial and Refresher courses are still proving popular at Doncaster GTA. We are seeing a steady rise in course bookings for the monthly Initial courses and also the bi-monthly Refresher courses for current ADR licence holders. We are also still offering Driver CPC accreditation whilst attending an ADR course, just a reminder you can claim up to 28 hours (four days) towards your DCPC Periodic Training if attending an Initial ADR course and 7 hours (one day) towards Periodic Training if booked on a Refresher course.

DGSA TRAINING COURSE The Dangerous Goods Safety Advisors (DGSA) course is starting to increase in popularity. This course prepares candidates for their DGSA exams and are programmed quarterly. The open-book exams are sat at various locations nationwide and the course covers the important ADR legislation, including mock exams and the correct referencing techniques to be used. For enquiries regarding transport & logistics courses contact Charlotte McLaughlin or Annette Scott on 01302 832831.

FORK LIFT TRUCK AND DRIVER TRAINING

Refresher Training Why is it necessary? The HSE strongly recommend operators have regular refresher training. This has added benefits for the employer and their employees. For the employer it maintains good working standards and for the employee it keeps their skills which they were taught on basic training up to date, also to maintain good driving habits.

Fork Lift Truck training is available at our Sheffield branch for competitive prices call us on 0114 2751751 or 01302 832831
