A key part of an effective strategy to contain the spread of the virus is ensuring state residents can get free, high-quality care, which is why the NM Office of the Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) is requiring health plans to cover COVID-19 testing and treatment free of charge to their customers. Services related to testing, like facility fees, must also be free. Even if a test comes back negative, you cannot be charged. OSI's order applies to major medical private health plans. Self-funded plans (or ERISA group plans) are not regulated by OSI, but the Superintendent is more than willing to work with your employer to make sure these services are covered.
