IDENTIFICATION

ScanRope Marine has implemented an ID marking on all KARAT®

fibre rope products, both mooring ropes and tails.

Each mooring rope or tail has a stainless ID-tag with an individual

four digit number. This number is also endorsed on the corresponding

individual certificate.

The ID-tag is located in the splice of the mooring rope or tail

(one ID-tag per eye splice).

It will be an easy task to keep a record of performance and age.

Certificate No. 100434-01-2004-1802The ID number on the stainless tag corresponds to the last four digits of the certificate number.

EStalon™, UV resistant Polyester blend.

Special characteristics are:

• Highest strength of the conventional

mooring ropes

• No loss of strength when wet

• Low weight - easy handling

• Low elongation

• Very low snap-back effect

• Highest strength of the conventional mooring ropes

• No loss of strength when wet

• Low weight - easy handling

• Low elongation

• Very low snap-back effect

ScanRope Marine supplies a wide range of KARAT® MAXI mooring tails, both single leg and endless grommet, to suit all dimensions/grades of steel wire mooring ropes.

Mooring tails are typically supplied in lengths of 11 m with 1,8 m and 0,6 m covered eyes. Because synthetic ropes are likely to deteriorate more rapidly than wire ropes, tails should be at least 25% stronger than the steel wire ropes to which they are attached (NOTE: +37% for Nylon). The mooring tails should be inspected frequently and replaced at regular intervals.(18 months as per OCIMF recommendations)

DYNAMAX™

12- STRAND

This twelve strand braided rope, made from DYNEEMA™ high

modulus Polyethylene fibres type SK 75, has the highest strength

to weight ratio in the current range of braided ropes.

Special characteristics:

• Light weight – floats• High strength – similar, size for size, to wire rope• Torque balanced 12 strand braided construction• Abrasion resistant polyurethane coating

DYNAMAX 6™

This "wire rope" laid construction offers higher strengths for the

same weight than a twelve strand braid. DYNAMAX 6™ rope

has six strands of high strength DYNEEMA™ fibre laid over a

DYNEEMA™ core strand, in very similar fashion to a traditional

wire rope. The whole rope is protected from abrasion by the

addition of a braided jacket. This non load bearing jacket can be

made of polyester or DYNEEMA™ yarns, depending upon the

application. With a DYNEEMA™ jacket the rope is actually buoyant.

Special characteristics:

• Light weight• Very high strength – similar, size for size, to wire rope• Abrasion resistant braided jacket• Compact construction works well on winches• No potential hand injuries due to broken wires

STEEL WIRE ROPES

10

ScanRope manufactures steel wire ropes of highest quality, designed for marine applications. This means particular emphasis on corrosion protection, including high zinc weights on the roping wires as well as careful selection of high grade lubricant for mooring application. Tensile 1770 N/mm2 has been selected for mooring ropes/fire wires. Increased tensile will give more brittle wire materials, shorter lifetime.

Lubrication should be made with a penetrating oil, to fill all cavities. The rope should ideally be bent so that the rope opens, and the penetrating oil can easily be applied.

The most important figure for steel wire rope is MBL (Minimum Breaking Load), this is the figure to be used for brake hold capacity, mooring line strength and tail rope dimensions. Terms like Actual-, Average- and Tested load should not be used in these calculations.
