Become an Apprentice! As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain skills. Apprentices also receive valuable training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. The minimum salary is £2.50 per hour, however, many apprentices earn significantly more. There may be different entry requirements depending on the Apprenticeships and the industry sectors. Competition for places can be fierce so you will need to show you are committed.

COURSES

Who is eligible for Foundation Learning? Those between 16-18 years old and not in education, employment or training

(up to 25 for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities). Qualifications are below level 2 which is the equivalent to 5 GCSE’s A-C grades.

Course content: Foundation Learning has 3 core elements and students will study aspects of all 3 of these:

• Vocational / subject based

• Functional Skills

• Personal and Social Development

Progression: Students can progress from Foundation Learning programmes onto:

• Further Foundation Learning programmes • Level 2 courses

• Employment with training • Volunteering

• Apprenticeships • the Diploma

17 week course, 3 days a week. Exciting courses run by creative industry experts! £25-£40 per week for those eligible for Bursary on Brighton courses. Up to £100 attendance reward on completion of the course. A focus on skills, jobs & routes into further education. Leave with a CV, qualifications, work portfolio & references, and the chance to get a work placement in creative businesses! On2 Media Mix

• A hands-on multimedia course spanning photography, video & animation, sound & web based media.

• Your ideas turned into reality! Plus the chance to showcase in White Night Festival.

• Use of industry-standard software.

• Working closely with experienced artists & making links with industry.

• A chance to get recognised Level 1 vocational & creative qualifications, plus your English & Maths Functional Skills (E2-L1)

Ringmer On2 Fashion and On2 Music Technology – access amazing facilities at Ringmer Community College! (Bus 28 from various central Brighton stops goes there direct, or FREE minibus from Lewes Train Station!).

Foundation Learning offers flexible programmes to help develop skills, confidence

and independence in preparation for work, training or further education. Nacro provide a personalised programme of study to help learners gain confidence and

achieve the qualifications they need to fulfil their potential.

Foundation Learning Courses at NACRO:

• ART & DESIGN – gain Bronze (Level1) and Silver (Level2) Award in the Arts

• CHILD CARE – CACHE Award, Certificate & Diploma in Caring for a Child/Children – Entry 3 & Level 1

Personal Development COURSES

These courses are free for 18+ year olds who are currently claiming JSA. You need to speak to your Job Centre Adviser to be referred. Courses are available in some of the city’s key employment sectors including: Construction, Health & Social Care, Retail, IT and Hospitality.

PRINCE’S TRUST TEAM PROGRAMME @ CITY COLLEGE

FREE 12 week programme helping to build confidence and motivation, develop new skills and

qualifications. The Team Programme will look great on your CV and you will have the skills and

confidence to apply for a full-time course at City College for September if you wish to do so.

The course includes: � a week away at a residential centre � two week work experience placement Travel is free and there are no course costs.

Next course starts in January 2012! Interviews start from November’11

£ National Minimum Wage (NMW) £ From 1st October 2011, the NMW hourly rate increased to:

☺☺☺☺ £3.68 for Workers aged 16-17

(above the school leaving age but under 18 years)

☺☺☺☺ £2.60 for Apprentices under 19 years, or 19 and over

and in the first year of their apprenticeship £4.98 for workers aged 18-20 £6.08 for workers aged 21 and over

EVENTS COMING SOON………

Want to find out about apprenticeships? This event will bring together employers from the cities key industry sectors their role to offer young people an insight into what a career in their industry can offer, what future prospects they might expect and the diversity of roles available within the sector. Sectors represented are Retail, Creative, Cultural & Digital Media, Sports & Fitness, Hospitality & Catering, Banking & Commerce, Construction & the trades, Environment, Hair & Beauty, Care & Childcare, Leisure, Travel & Tourism, IT & Communications and Public Sector. Employers, training providers, colleges and representatives from www.apprenticeships.org.uk will be there. Also attending will be apprentices and Apprentice Champions who you can chat to about their experience. Their will be specific provision for pre apprenticeships to ensure clear route ways and equality of access for those young people who may need additional support prior to accessing a full apprenticeship. The event is open from 2-7pm but where possible, it is recommend that you come along between 2 and 5.30 so you can meet with as many employers as you can possibly fit in!!!!!
