Before I talk about this upcoming week’s reading plan, I want to make you aware of an upcoming event. This Thursday, May 4, is the National Day of Prayer. There will be a local Prayer Rally at Booneville City Hall at 12:00PM. I will be leading one of the prayer times along with several other ministers in our area. These are always uplifting times together as we pray for our nation, our leaders, our community, and especially for the lost. I hope you will make plans to join us at the National Day of Prayer Rally. I have one other announcement. Beginning this Wednesday night, we will begin a new study, “Grasping God’s Word.” The emphasis of this course is learning how to study, interpret, and understand God’s Word. Unlike the previous two studies we’ve done, this one won’t require pur-chasing a book or any reading before each session. I believe anyone who desires to be a better student of God’s Word would benefit from this course. I hope you’ll make plans to join us at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights in the Fellowship Hall. If you are on track with us, we are working through Week 19 in the read-ing plan. The first two days will have readings from the Psalms. Last week you read a portion of Psalm 119, and this week, you’ll read anoth-er portion of Psalm 119. Psalm 119 is one of my favorite Psalms because throughout it David is declaring his love for God’s Word. Psalm 119 is also a unique piece of Hebrew poetry. Psalm 119 is divided into 22 sections of 8 verses. There are 22 sections because there are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet. In each section, every verse begins with the same letter. For example, the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet is “Aleph,” and in verses 1-8, the first letter of each verse is an “Aleph.” Your Bible may include the identification of each Hebrew letter above each corre-sponding section: Aleph, Beth, Gimel, etc. If you’re interested, this is one way you can learn the Hebrew alphabet. The final three days will return to the narrative in 1 Kings. In these read-ings, you will see the transition from King David to King Solomon. You will also see another important development in the history of Israel. From the time of Moses through King David, the primary home for the Ark of the Lord has been in the Tabernacle. King Solomon is responsi-ble for building the first Temple, which would be a permanent structure for the Ark of the Lord. This temple would be the place of worship and sacrifice until the Babylonians destroyed it in 586 BC. This past Sunday we saw the best and worst of David. In the evening service, we learned about David and Bathsheba. This upcoming Sunday morning, we will study Psalm 51, which is David’s cry for forgiveness and restoration. Keep going in the reading plan and have a blessed week! In Christ, Jason

THE BOONEVILLE BAPTIST

A Message from Carter’s Corner This week in the life of our youth, we are making our final preparations for the 2017 Youth Choir Mission Trip to Seattle, Washington. We will be leaving on May 27th at 4:30 a.m. and will be flying from Memphis to Seattle. Our youth and adults are excited about the work we will be doing during that week. We will be having block parties while doing Vacation Bible School, working at the Salvation Army, working with the homeless shelter, and also doing some clean-up around the area where we will be staying. This year, we will be staying the entire week at Island Lake Camp in Silverdale, WA. Please pray specifically that God will use this week in the lives of our students and adults to bring God glory, honor, and praise through everything we say and everything we do. Please pray for the leaders in Seattle for guidance and direction, as we work closely with them each day leading up to the trip. Also, please join with us in prayer for our students, since for many of them, this will be their first time ever away from Booneville without their parents, and for some, it may be the first time they have been on a plane. Pray also, for safety—and most importantly, for God’s will to be done. ▪Act Justly ▪Love Mercy ▪Walk Humbly
