History of Open Hole Completion Systems
• OH Packer and Sleeves were designed in 1980’s• First OH Packer and Sleeves were RIH in Canada in mid
90’s• First RIH in the U.S. in the Permian Basin and Granite
Wash formations in the early 2000’s– Max stages 8
• First Cemented Sliding Sleeve RIH 2003• First Swell Packer RIH 2005• First Inflatable ECP RIH as a zonal isolation
barrier/packer for Open Hole Frac Sleeves 2006• First Cemented Toe initiation sleeve – 2010• First Cluster system designed and RIH – 2010
Benefits
Most common reasons:1. Low Pressure zones 2. Fear of cement damaging production zone3. Fear of isolating naturally occurring fractures4. Limited availability of water5. Efficiency
Lower Completion Cost:1. Fewer well Bore Intervention Services Required2. Less time to stimulate3. Faster Well Cleanup for Production4. Reduced pump down fluid volumes5. Improved isolation 6. Reduced time to bring well to market
General Deployment
• The horizontal open hole section of the well is divided into sections.
• The sliding sleeves are centered in these sections.• The first section is isolated by the Bottom of the well
and the first packer.• The other sections are isolated with one packer on each
end.• Production String with Sleeves either run as long string
or as liner.• Production string or liner is anchored by means of a
anchor packer or by cementing the vertical section
Basic System – Ball Actuated Sliding Sleeve
Ball Actuated Sliding Sleeves, also know as “Frac Sleeves”1. Opened by a specific measured ball. Smallest to largest.2. Lock into open position when opened.3. Ball Seat is (*now) made of drillable material.4. Ball Seats rotationally locked to allow drill out.5. Variable Shear6. *Over 40 stages

Ball Seat Mill out
• Seats have a large chamfer that allow the ball to roll off of seat.
• Mill outs are executed on Coil Tubing or Tubing (Work over rig)
• 5 Blade junk mill
