Term 4 Week 1 - Wednesday 7 October 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
Another term is upon us and I am not sure if it is exciting or daunting that we are already in the last school term of the
year. This will be a very busy term with many extra curricula activities planned.
I hope that the recent break went well for all and we welcome all new families to the school.
This year has certainly been “one of those” years and after the year of floods it was not the year we needed. However, it
has been said that it is not what happens but how you deal with the happenings that is the most important. It is
encouraging to know that our school community is resilient.
Due to the work of school staff in Queensland this year the Queensland Government has declared that school will finish
two days prior to the usual end of term. These days have been designated as Student Free Days and schools will be
closed. Hence this term will finish on Wednesday 9th
December instead of Friday 11th December. Parents who require
full time care can organise with PCYC Oonoonba SS for additional vacational care days.
Below is the information provided by the Director –General of Education, Mr Tony Cook.
This year will be remembered for many things, not least a year of challenge, uncertainty
and great complexity.
I’m proud of the way Queensland state school staff have led our children’s education
through these difficult circumstances.
In recognition of the extraordinary efforts of school-based staff during the COVID-19 health
pandemic, the 2020 school year will end early.
Everyone has been affected by COVID-19. While many in our communities across the state
have contributed to ensuring Queensland families remain healthy and safe, I think we all would
agree our state school teachers and school staff have done an incredible job at leading our
children’s education.
In recognition of their outstanding efforts during the pandemic, the Queensland Government has declared the last two days of Term 4, 2020, Thursday 10 December and Friday 11 December, 2020 be allocated as student free days. Schools will be closed on these days. You can view the updated school holiday and term dates and download the calendar at
https://education.qld.gov.au/about-us/calendar/term-dates
This will come as great news for those who are keen to begin their school holidays early.
For some families, alternative arrangements will need to be made for the care of children
on these two days.
Educating our children is a team effort. On behalf of our teaching and school staff, I would
like to thank you for your support and cooperation during this year.
If you wish to download the calendar you will also see that the first day of Term 1 in 2021 is Wednesday 27th January.
As always if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards

FROM THE DEPUTY’S DESK
Welcome back to the final term of 2020. A warm welcome is extended to new students and families who have started school with us this week.
Year 6 into 7 State High School Transition Day and Enrolment Interviews
For those students who are enrolling in a state high school next year, there will be a transition day (date to be advised) later this term for all state high schools. For parents of students in Year 6, it is important then that an enrolment interview is held at the state high school their child/ren will be attending, in order for them to go to that state high school on the transition day.
William Ross State High School 2021
If your child is going to be attending William Ross State High School in 2021, and you have not yet done so, please contact the school on 47267666 to arrange an enrolment interview. The enrolment interview will be with Deputy Principal Nathan Hustler, who is always very keen to meet new students and their parents.
Non-State High School Transition Days
For parents of Year 6 students attending non-state high schools in 2021, could you please contact Robyn Pansini in our school’s office to inform of transition/orientation day dates where your child will be absent from our school. This will assist us with any organisational arrangements and curriculum and teaching decisions that have to be made by teachers in classrooms.

Oonoonba State School Tuckshop………. Welcome back to the Tuckshop for Term 4! I hope you all had a safe and relaxing break over the school holidays, I know I sure did. I am excited to finally release a new and delicious summer menu for our tuckshop with many tasty yet healthy options available. I am awaiting the rating and assessment on our menu however I will share this with you in the coming weeks. This rating indicates the health rating of our menu and where we sit within the smart choices; 1. being non-compliant and 5. being excellent. This evaluation is by QAST (Queensland Association of School Tuckshops). At our next P&C meeting, I will be seeking approval for upcoming Red Food Days, so again keep your eyes peeled to our Oonoonba Tuckshop Facebook page and the Newsletter for further information. This term our tuckshop will continue to operate Wednesday to Friday from 8:30am until 2pm with online Flexischools orders open until 8:30am. Students may place orders at the tuckshop counter between 8:30am and 9am.
