Founded in 2002 by breast cancer survivor and Executive Director Dr. Sandy Goldberg, A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) is a private, not-for-profit organization committed to the mission of “ensuring dignified, respectful, and equal access to quality cancer education and services for all by creat-ing meaningful partnerships with community, advocacy, and healthcare organizations.” To achieve this goal, ASLF has developed 3 integrated programs to assure access to breast health and breast cancer information, education, and services for thousands of underserved people annually.

ASLF’s first program, The Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition (CCIC), was established in 2002 by forming collaborations with national and local cancer support groups, informational and advocacy organiza-tions, health organizations, and community-based organizations assisting Chicago’s low-income populations. Over 10,000 women receive culturally and linguistically appropriate health information annually via outreach activities, including 2 annual health fairs targeting low-income communi-ties. CCIC’s 20 participating organizations reduce barriers and help provide seamless access to health information and services.

A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) established its second program in 2004. The Evelyn Goldberg Center is located within the Oncology Center at The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. It provides meaningful and often otherwise unattainable support services to patients diagnosed with any type of cancer, e.g., transportation to and from treatment, in-house food certificates and initial pharmacy co-payments. ASLF also maintains a library with culturally-sensitive bilingual information, including books, magazines, journals and access to computers & DVD’s.

ASLF is able to provide hundreds of mammograms annually due to the success of its third program, Buy A Mom A MammogramTM (BAMAM). Es-tablished in 2006, BAMAM provides funding for free breast cancer screen-ing and diagnostic evaluation to women who otherwise have no ability to pay for such services. Since its inception BAMAM has provided funding for over 4,500 mammograms.

Your support this evening will fund mammograms to uninsured and underin-sured women. We thank you for helping us provide silver linings to those in need.
