Since it first opened its doors in 2001, Katz 21 has been a downtown favorite in Corpus Christi, known for its delicious, mouthwater-ing steaks, international cuisine and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Now Katz 21 has moved from downtown to the Southside, where its new location at 5702 Spohn Drive (behind Frost Bank on Staples) promises diners the same great food and warmth, all on a larger scale.

“We’re committed to giving our customers top-quality products with the best service pos-sible,” said owner Theodore Dimopoulos, a na-tive of Greece who has been a local business-man since 1993. “We strive to provide Corpus Christi with a premiere fine dining experience.”

The restaurant, which originally opened downtown 11 years ago, has moved into the old Trend House building in April and has under-gone months of remodeling. The new loca-tion boasts 15,000 square feet of dining and entertainment areas and walls richly decorated in warm, earthy colors, accented by features such as a marble-topped hostess desk in the front entrance that gives the eatery a luxurious feel. The larger dining area, complete with the establishment’s trademark chandeliers, now includes an adjacent outdoor patio.

The new location also has a private dining area that holds up to 150 and can be divided

into three smaller rooms perfect for weddings, receptions, private meetings and mixers. The new location also features a spacious 3,000 square-foot kitchen with nearly a dozen 2,200-degree ovens, and a temperature-con-trolled wine cellar that holds 1,500 bottles of wine. For a fee, patrons can use a private wine locker to house their favorite vino purchased at the restaurant. Just see the management for details.

On the “21” side, there is a chic lounge where patrons can order from the bar’s menu while sipping on a signature cocktail or aged scotch. The lounge also offers a large outdoor patio that will feature an array of live music such as Jazz, Classic Rock and Adult Contemporary.

Diners with a taste for a good cigar may also purchase one inside the lounge. The menu, which includes gourmet creations from Master Chef George Christodoulakis, still features its dry-aged Prime steaks, fresh Gulf Coast sea-food, signature appetizers, along with soups, salads, handmade pasta and bread and exqui-site desserts, and includes some new dishes that also will appeal to the pocketbook.

Dimopoulos, who is known to his customers as “Theo,” takes pride in the day-to-day opera-tions of Katz 21—the only Prime steakhouse in the city utilizing a special cooler to dry-age its beef—and the decision to move to the South-side to be more centrally located. “The South-side is a growing part of town and that is more where our clientele is based,” said Dimopoulos. Katz 21 recommends making reservations in order to get the best fine dining experience. The dress code is always at management’s discre-tion but business casual is recommended.

Fall 2012 fashions are now making appearances all across the country! Here in the Coastal Bend we have also noticed Fash-ionistas who have picked up on the trends and are showing them off in style. So just what is in this Fall? There are actu-ally numerous trends out there from which to choose -- from cozy knits, navy-blue pea-coats, and rustic sweaters to bedazzled collars and faux fur accents. Color palettes also run the gamut -- autumnal brights such as

mustard, cobalt and emerald green are popular in addition to rich wine colors, brick reds, deep purples, and bluish plums. Even the colors of spring are making an early appearance when paired with black accents. Textures are back in as well-- including leathers, fur, and elegant embroidery. It is important that you don’t overdo one texture by wearing it from head to toe, but opt instead for making it the luxe stand-out in your look.

The boldest trends on the New York runways were inspired by a variety of unique looks. Military fashions were evident, such as straight high boots, chic dark colored leather bags worn cross-body, and high cuffed sleeves. Asian inspired trends were also spotted, including immaculately tailored pieces with extremely vibrant Oriental fabrics. Finally,

Gothic themed fashions were certainly all the rage in Fall 2012 collections, an apparent homage to our love for dark and mysterious fairytales in television and cinema. Goth trends included billowy blouses, tuxedo jackets, dark-laced Victorian bodices, and creeping black embellished vines on evening gowns. You can channel this trend without go-ing overboard in a variety of ways: add a sheer black layer to an already dark outfit, use black beads or sequins to embellish key pieces, or find a blood red tint as a lip stain. So Fashionistas --with so many diverse styles out there, you simply need to pick your favor-ite fall fashion trends and have some fun. Do a little shopping, take a few risks, and enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Fashionistas at ON Magazine!
