Welcome to OLOF Youth Ministry. Our team is excited to journey with the youth

of our parish as we grow in faith and community together. This handbook includes

information about OLOF Youth Ministry programs as well as three forms each

participant in OLOF Youth Ministry needs to have on file, every year- the OLOF Youth

Ministry Registration, OLOF Code of Conduct, and Diocesan Liability.

OLOF Youth Ministry wants to emphasize that we are here to aid parents in the

faith formation of their youth. Parents have the primary role and responsibility of faith

education. It is our goal as youth ministers to work with the parents, clergy, and church

community to educate our youth in our faith and set them up to be lifelong, practicing

and faithful Catholics who know and love their faith.

If there is anything our youth ministry team can ever do to support your family,

please let us know. Our church has a variety of resources through the church and

community including local preschools and language classes, help with needs involving

food or clothing, services for counseling or mental health support, and support for

families who experience loss. If we can help your youth or your family, please do not

hesitate to let us know.

We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year!

Bienvenido a Ministerio Juvenil de OLOF! Nuestro equipo está emocionado de

caminar con los jóvenes de nuestra parroquia a medida que crecemos en fe y

comunidad juntos. Este manual incluye información sobre los programas del Ministerio

Juvenil de OLOF, así como tres formas que cada participante en el Ministerio Juvenil

necesidades relacionadas con alimentos o ropa, servicios de consejería o apoyo para

la salud mental, y apoyo para familias que sufren pérdidas. Si podemos ayudar a su

joven o su familia, no dude en hacérnoslo saber.

Four:6- Each Wednesday before ministry, OLOF Youth Ministry opens our doors from 4-6 pm for any

student in the area (parishioner or non-parishioner) to come for snacks, homework help/tutoring,

games, fellowship and more. Registration or “sign up” is not required.

Cuatro:6- Cada miércoles antes ministerio, el Ministerio Juvenil de OLOF abre nuestras puertas de 4

a 6 p.m. para que cualquier estudiante en el área (feligrés o no feligrés) venga a recibir snacks,

ayuda con la tarea / tutoría, juegos, compañerismo y más. No es necesario registrarse para venir.

Dinner- Each week during ministry, we serve dinner to all the youth in our program! We feed about

80-100 students each week, and we rely on parent, parish, and community support in order to do this!

We ask, if you are able, that you sign up to bring part of a meal using the link on the “Support OLOF

Youth Ministry” page on the website.

Program- The program we use for Middle School is LifeTeen’s Edge Program. This program covers

the entirety of the Catechism in three years in a fun and engaging way. The program we use for High

School is LifeTeen. This program covers the entirety of the Catechism more in depth in four years.

Our hope is that all of our youth graduate our program with knowledge of the Catechism and the

teachings of the Catholic Church.

Programa: El programa que utilizamos para Middle School es el programa Edge de LifeTeen. Este

programa cubre la totalidad del Catecismo en tres años de una manera divertida y interesante. El

programa que utilizamos para High School es LifeTeen. Este programa cubre la totalidad del

Catecismo más en profundidad en cuatro años. Nuestra esperanza es que todos nuestros jóvenes

gradúen nuestros programas con conocimiento del Catecismo y enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica.

Materials- All Middle School students are asked to bring a bible to ministry each week. We use and

recommend the St. Mary’s Press Catholic Youth Bible 4th Edition. All High School students are asked

to bring a bible and a YouCat to ministry each week. If your youth needs a Bible or a YouCat, the

office of youth ministry places an order at the beginning of the school year, or we can help you order

one online.

Materiales: Se pide a todos los estudiantes de Middle School que traigan una biblia al ministerio

cada semana. Usamos y recomendamos la 4ta edición de la Biblia Juvenil Católica de St. Mary’s

Press. Se les pide a todos los estudiantes de High School que traigan una biblia y un YouCat al

ministerio cada semana. Si su joven necesita una Biblia o un YouCat, la oficina del ministerio juvenil

hace un pedido al comienzo del año escolar, o podemos ayudarlo a ordenar una en línea.

Drop Off/Pick Up- When youth are dropped off at church for an event, they are considered present

for the event and need to follow OLOF Youth Ministry Code of Conduct and Diocesan policy for being

at the event. This means that the youth need to immediately go to where the group is and stay with

the group until they are picked up. If a youth gets sick or needs to leave for any reason, Sarah or Luis

(not another youth or a volunteer) needs to be made aware.

Dejar / Recoger: Cuando los jóvenes se dejan en la iglesia para un evento, se les considera

presentes para el evento y deben seguir el Código de Conducta del Ministerio Juvenil de OLOF y las

Haiti Donation and Can Tab Collection- Our church sponsors a parish in Haiti. We ask youth to

bring $2, if they are able, every week for “dinner.” This money goes to provide meals for the students

who attend the parish school in Haiti. Oftentimes, this is the only meal they get each day. Our youth

group also collects can tabs to support our local Ronald McDonald house. Whichever group (middle

school or high school) has the most can tabs at the end of the semester wins a brownie sundae party!

Inclement Weather Policy- OLOF Youth Ministry does not follow any local closings for inclement

weather. If there is inclement weather, we make our best judgement about whether we can safely

have ministry. Parents will be informed on whether there is ministry by an email, the parish app, and

social media. If you are unable to safely make it to ministry because of inclement weather, please use

your own discretion and judgement in coming.

• When in the church, please be respectful and refrain from social conversations or using any kind of electronic device. | Cuando esté en la iglesia, sea respetuoso, no tener conversaciones sociales, o usar cualquier tipo de dispositivo electrónico.

• Be respectful in Mass and Adoration. | Sea respetuoso en Misa y Adoración.

• Take care of God’s church- always leave things better than the way you found them (clean up after yourself!). Please don’t play with the church sound system, play in the kitchen, or vandalize church property. | Cuida la iglesia de Dios: siempre dejar las cosas mejor que como las encontraste (¡limpiar después de ti mismo!). Favor de no jugar con el sistema de sonido de la iglesia, juegue en la cocina, ni destruya la propiedad de la iglesia.

• Be safe. Always use the buddy system and let adult leaders know when you leave the social hall or youth room for any reason (restroom, water, being picked up early, etc.).| Se Seguro. • Wear appropriate clothing. Please be mindful coming from sports practice. For everyone safety, we have a no-tolerance policy for alcohol, drugs, weapons, violence, sexual

misconduct, discrimination, bullying, and will follow diocesan and civil responsibilities.

I have read and I agree to follow the OLOF Youth Ministry Code of Conduct while I am at ministry and youth ministry events. I understand that abiding by the Code of Conduct keeps me and everyone else in Youth Ministry safe. If I don’t follow the Code of Conduct, I understand that I will first be given a verbal warning, then separated from the group if the problem still continues, and then, be asked to be picked up by parent if the problem continues. I understand that if I participate in any “no-tolerance” activities, then I will be asked to leave immediately (without warning), and I may not return to Youth Ministry until I meet with the Youth Ministry team and the Parish Priest.

He leído y estoy de acuerdo en seguir el Código de Conducta del Ministerio Juvenil de OLOF mientras estoy en el ministerio y en los eventos del ministerio juvenil. Entiendo que cumplir con el Código de Conducta nos mantiene a mí y a todos los demás en el Ministerio Juvenil seguros. Si no sigo el Código de Conducta, entiendo que primero recibiré una advertencia verbal, después separación del grupo si el problema persiste, y luego se me pedirá que sea levantado por padres si el problema continúa.
