Mohd Nazmi has 14 years broad based experience in pipeline integrity management particularly in areas of pipeline inspections,pipeline risk assessment, fitness-for-service studies, pipeline repair and rehabilitation, and pipeline operation and maintenance, andskills that has constantly evolved to meet the challenges and requirements of the most current business environment. Arctic Pipeline Forum – December 1st, 2011 Led by: Dr. Ibrahim Konuk, Director, Arctic Engineering, TECHNIP

Ibrahim Konuk received a Ph.D. from Southampton University on mathematical problems associated with pipelines. From 1974 to 1981, he was employed by R.J. Brown in Holland working on marine pipeline studies for projects in many parts of the world. In1981, Dr. Konuk joined McDermott International in New Orleans pipeline research department as the lead developer. In late 1983,

he moved to Canada where he managed research projects on soil pipe-interaction, ice-structure interaction, and long term pipeline integrityproblems. From 2007 to 2009, he conducted research at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway. From 1992-1993, he chaired the Petroleum Division of ASME and is a founding member of the OMAE Division of ASME. He is currently the Director of Arctic Engineering at Technip USA responsible for all Arctic engineering projects and technical development within Technip USA, Inc. In addition, responsible for providing solutions to complex technical, structural and geotechnical problems for deepwater and onshore pipelines and for advising other Technipbusiness units internationally on design and installation problems. Dr. Konuk is also an Adjunct Professor at University of Waterloo in Canada and is the author of more than 50 papers.

South StreamThe South Stream Project: Moving Forward With Europe’sLongest Transmission Pipeline

Sebastian Sass, Head of EU & Regulatory AffairsSOUTH STREAMSebastian Sass has been working with South Stream since 2010. The South Streamproject is a transnational pipeline being developed for the propose of diversifying thesupply routes of natural gas to Europe. It pools together experienced European andRussian gas companies, and it will provide Europe with a reliable route for clean energysupply to the benefit of consumers in many countries. A shareholder agreement has

recently been signed between Gazprom, ENI, EDF and Wintershall, subsidiary of German company BASF.The consortium is established for the planning, construction and subsequent operation of the offshore pipelinesection through the Black Sea. Previously, Sebastian Sass has worked at Nord Stream where he held specialresponsibilities for relations with governments in the Baltic region. He represented the company towards theinstitutions and decision-makers of the European Union and he acted as spokesman for the company. Prior tojoining Nord Stream, Sebastian Sass worked with EU and international relations in government andparliament in both Finland and in Germany. Sebastian Sass holds a State Examination of Law from Germany,and a Master degree in European Law (LLM) from the UK.

His specialisation

includes pipe/soil interaction, earthquake engineering and foundation design. He was a Lecturer in Universityof Cambridge prior to joining the industry. He has authored over 30 publications in International Journals andConferences on various geotechnical aspects. He received the “Bill Curtin Medal” from Institution of CivilEngineers for the Best Paper in ICE Civil Engineering Journal.
