Course 8395 ~ Next Steps in Science Notebooks: Grades 6-12, Tom Hathornv Best Teaching Practices in Science Core Training for Grades 6 - 12. (7 Clock Hours Available)

OK, so the research advises us that “students have misconceptions,” and “these initial ideas should be revealed and used”...but what, exactly, do these statements mean? What are some specific strategies for “revealing and using” students’ ideas? This science notebook workshop goes beyond “Level 1” (entry types, organization), digging into the nitty-gritty of instruction that capitalizes on more of the potential of science notebooks. Participants will explore the intentional use of various notebook entry types and ways to increase the rigor of thinking-writing-talking that go with notebook entries. You will build your repertoire of instructional strategies to support notebook use and ease the gradebook burden and increase the strategic information about students’ ideas.
