Восьма неділя після празника Пасхи, а перша після Зіслання Святого Духа називається неділею Всіх святих. Вона завершує коло рухомих свят. Цього дня наша Східна Церква віддає особливу почесть усім тим, які є плодом дарів Святого Духа. "У цей день, в неділю після П'ятдесятниці, — читаємо в синаксарі цієї неділі, — святкуємо празник Всіх святих скрізь — в Азії, Лівії, Європі, на півночі й півдні. What does the Holy Spirit look

like? The word 'spirit' implies invisible,

unseen. Jesus Christ became man and

can be shown in icons, while the Holy

Spirit is recognized by His gifts.

Holiness/sanctity is a gift of the Holy

Spirit manifested in holy people we

call 'saints. The face of the Holy Spirit

is in the face of the Saints. On Pentecost

the Holy Spirit has come upon the

Church, and we demonstrate this truth

of this claim by pointing it to the

Church. The Saints are proof that the Holy Spirit truly

came upon the Church at Pentecost, and that through their

holiness, the Holy Spirit is working in the world.

The very existence of the saints testifies to the presence

of holiness in the Church, for no one can become a saint

except by the Holy Spirit. The face of the Holy Spirit is

not in our stone monuments erected over the centuries,

impressive as they are, they eventually crumble. Rather it

is in those who lived the way they did because the

Holy Spirit dwelled in them.

The gifts of the Spirit are varied and particular gifts of

the Spirit are manifested in the Saints, designating them

into categories. We can say that the Saints reflect an

aspect of God's holiness like a diamond reflecting the colors

of the spectrum when the sun shines through it. For

example, martyrs died for Christ and the Faith, imitating

Jesus who, died for us. Hierarchs/bishops

Ultimately, it is God who makes people holy by giving

them the gift of the Holy Spirit. "His divine power has

through knowledge of Him, who called us by His own

power and glory." (2 Peter 1; 3) "This treasure we possess

in vessels of clay is to show that its surpassing power comes

from God and not us." (2 Corinthians 4; 7) The Saints were

not born saints, but became saints. The gifts of the Holy

Spirit are not a guarantee, or magic, because sanctity

depends on how the gifts are used. The Saints became

saints by God's power and their holiness results from His

grace. All that they are, they owe to God.
