«Христос воскрес!» Ось цими словами християни

вітають один одного, сповіщаючи про найвеличнішу

подію у світі – воскресіння Христове.

Воскресіння Христове дало людям свободу, воно

вказало шлях до спасіння. Переможено зло. Людство

отримало вічний захист від нього великою ціною –

смертю Спасителя на хресті.

Коли Марія Магдалина, Петро й Іван прийшли до

гробу Господнього, там нікого не було. Лише двоє

ангелів запитали: «Чого шукаєте живого серед

мертвих? Немає Його тут, бо воскрес».

Своїм воскресінням Христос переміг смерть, яка

досі була платою за гріхи. А подолавши смерть, тим

самим очистив людей від гріха.

Саме тому в пасхальному тропарі співаємо:

«Христос воскрес із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав, і

тим, що в гробах, життя дарував».

Для того, щоб подолати смерть, Ісус мусив померти.

Чому саме Він, а не хтось інший? І чому, якщо Він Бог,

Христос не відвернув від Себе цих страждань? Треба

було, щоби постраждала людська плоть.

Якби на хресну смерть за гріхи всього людства

пішов би простий чоловік, він би не воскрес. А в Ісуса

окрім людської була ще й Божественна природа, він був

Богочоловіком, і саме тому міг здолати смерть.

– Як Бог Ісус знав, що Йому треба понести

страждання. У Молінні про чашу якраз про ці два

моменти найбільше оповідається, –– «Знаю: хай буде

воля не Моя, а Твоя», і каже: «Хай йде мимо Мене чаша

ця». І тут же: «Хай буде воля Твоя».

Знає, що Йому треба йти на хрест волею Божества,

але як людина каже: «Я не хочу страждати». Просить,

щоб Господь відмінив для Нього цю місію і в той же

час терпить.

Христос знав, що Його чекає зрада. Проте не

покинув Своїх учнів, а навпаки – перед Тайною

вечерею омив їм ноги.

– І сказав: «Так, як Я робив, так і ви робіть. Якщо Я,

Учитель, вам омиваю ноги, то показую приклад, як ви

повинні чинити у своєму житті. Тому що Я прийшов не

для того, щоб мені служили, а Я прийшов для того, щоб

послужити людям».

Зміст цієї події в житті апостолів та Ісуса Христа

дуже простий: ми приходимо в цей світ, щоби виконати

якусь місію, місію життєву, – Господь кожній людині

дає талант і вона через примноження свого таланту несе

свою місію.

В останні дні земного життя Христос встановлює

таїнство святої Євхаристії. Його чекає смерть, якою Він

викупить людство від гріха і подарує життя вічне. Але

чи прийме людство цей дар? Чи прийме заплачену за це

ціну? Ісус чинить дуже благородно: маючи повноту

Божої влади, не встановив її ні над ким, не впокорив

Собі нікого. Натомість залишив заповідь любові.

До Бога потрапити можна тільки поєднавшись із

- Icon of Victory

"You have descended into the realm of Death, O Christ, and have broken the ancient bonds which held the captives; and like Jonah from the whale, on the third day You rose from the tomb." The Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the center of our Christian faith. The icon of Christ descending to Hades shows the universal, cosmic, and spiritual reality of what Christ's death and resurrection have accomplished. The victory of Christ shown in the icon is complete; "Christ is risen from the dead, by death He trampled death, and to those in the tombs bestowing life." While Jesus was entombed, His soul descended into Hades, not in order to suffer, but to fight and free the souls trapped there. Just as bringing light to darkness causes it to disappear, Jesus Christ, the Source of all life descends into Hades, the abode of the dead resulting in Jesus' victory over death and not death over Jesus. This is the full reality of what Jesus' death and resurrection accomplished. Christ is shown as the Conqueror vested in white and gold, symbolizing His divine majesty and the Giver of Life. He is surrounded by a mandorla of star-studded light representing the glory of God. Christ is pulling out Adam and Eve our first parents. He is not holding them by their hands but pulling them out by their wrists like a parent rescuing their child from falling illustrating that man could not pull himself out of the mire of sin and save himself. It had to be accomplished by God Himself coming down to raise him up. Christ the Victor is surrounded by John the Baptist-who, according to tradition, preached the coming of Christ to those in Hades, and the Old Testament righteous such as Abel, Abraham, Moses, David and others who awaited the coming of the Messiah. Beneath His feet lay the gates of Hades, smashed in the shape of the Cross. Christ has trampled death by death! Within the dark underworld are scattered broken chains and locks. Hades is bound with the same chains used to bind the unfortunate victims. Some explanations of the figure shown chained are that of the devil or sin which bound us.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated all the

delicious baked goods for our successful fish fry. I can’t

remember when we had such a great variety of treats. It’s

amazing to see what we can accomplish when we all work

together. All your hard work paid off. You should feel good

about helping our parish.

Come celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fatima at our May

Crowning on Saturday May 13th after the 4pm liturgy. We are

asking all families, especially with children to join in this

short ceremony to honor Blessed Virgin Mary. We need to

thank Her for our blessings we have received, because

She intercedes on our behalf. After the presentation of the

crowning of Blessed Mary in the garden, come stay and have

dinner at the Steak Out and have free desert donated by the

під час Таємної вечері Ісус встановив таїнство

Євхаристії, іншими словами – Причастя.

Ця подія замінила старозавітні жертвоприношення

тварин на новозавітне жертвоприношення Самого

Господа. Апостол Павло говорить, що християни

викуплені дорогою ціною – Кров’ю самого Ісуса

Христа. Установлене таїнство Причастя стало основою

євхаристичного канону, – кульмінації Літургії.

Під час нього хліб і вино силою Духа Святого

перетворюються в Тіло і Кров Ісуса Христа. Коли ними

причащаються вірні, то в цей момент з’єднуються із

Самим Господом.

Воскресіння Христове стале основою нашої віри.

Перемога життя над смертю, добра над злом, правди

над неправдою. По суті, воно розкриває перед кожним

перспективу, ставить мету, заради чого жити, щоби

після тілесної смерті не загинути, а поєднатися з Тим,

Хто несе світло правди, Хто несе спасіння. Адже, як

сказав апостол Павло, якщо Христос не воскрес, то і

віра наша даремна. І саме тому не співоче Різдво, не

заквітчану зеленню Трійцю, а Пасху Христову Церква

виділяє з-поміж інших свят як найбільше і

найвеличніше, називаючи ще його Великдень –

Великий день. Христос воскрес!

call brethren even those who hate us, and in the

resurrection forgive everything and sing: Christ is risen

from the dead. By death He conquered Death, and to

those in the graves He granted Life."

On this Easter 2017, the 400th Anniversary of the

Basilian Order of St. Josaphat, and the 100th Anniversary

of the apparitions of the Mother of God in Fatima, we, the

Clergy of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, wish

you, our dear parishioners, a joyous Easter. May you truly

experience the joy of the healing power of the Risen Christ

in your lives and in the lives of your loved ones. May God
