The Girl Scout Troops in your area make up a “Service Unit.” The troop leaders and volunteers in your service unit meet each month to plan upcoming events, share new ideas, and discuss problems and solutions. As a troop leader, you or a representative from your troop are required to attend these meetings.

Volunteer Resources (continued)3. Review the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) and Other Resources.
The VTK includes everything you need to plan and implement your Troop year. You can access the VTK at www.gsgms.org>MyGS.
The VTK is a digital planning tool that gives volunteers resources and program content to get the year started— and keep it going smoothly! Fully customizable, the VTK is digitally responsive so volunteers can plan and prepare practically anywhere.
Girls have more fun when they can shape their own experience, do hands-on activities, and work together as a team. With the VTK, girls and leaders can explore meeting topics and program activities together, and follow the fun as they plan their Girl Scout year.
Online support: www.gsgms.org >Volunteer
Safety Activity Checkpoints Every adult in Girl Scouts is responsible for the physical and emotional safety of girls, and we follow these guidelines at all times. From archery to hiking, outdoor cooking to zip lining, get checklists to help everyone stay safe—and have fun! Go to https://www.gsgms.org/en/our-council/forms.html to get a complete list.
Other training opportunities:*Please note: additional dates will be announced later.

EVENT DESCRIPTIONSRegistering for an Event
Event types are noted next to the event title. “C” is for Council events that are sponsored by Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi. To register for these events, go online to gsgms.org. You can pay online; however, if payment is made with Nutty Money or Cookie Dough, please contact the Registrar at 601.326.5648 or [email protected] for assistance. Events that can be paid for with Nutty Money or Cookie Dough have the symbol beside them in the Adventure Guide. Events are typically opened six weeks before the event and closed two weeks prior to the event.
Another type of event is our “P” Partner events. This kind of event will have registration information noted in the description.
A tagalong is a child that is not a registered Girl Scout, such as a sibling of any age. Tagalongs are not permitted to attend events unless otherwise indicated in the event description. Girls who are not current Girl Scout members can still attend events by paying the annual $25 membership fee in addition to the event fee. Once a girl is a registered Girl Scout, she can attend as many events and activities as she wants. She can participate in council events and activities even if her troop does not. Most events require adult supervision to attend. Drop off events will be noted in the description on the registration page.

Girl Scout AwardsBronze. Silver. Gold. These represent the highest honors a Girl Scout can earn.
All three awards give girls the chance to do big things while working on an issue that’s captured their interest in a big way. Whether they want to plant a community garden at their school and inspire others to eat healthily for their Bronze Award, advocate for animal rights for their Silver Award, or build a career network that encourages girls to become scientists and engineers for their Gold Award, they will inspire others (and themselves).
Check out the calendar for informational webinars and sessions!
The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouts. Open only to girls in high school, this prestigious award challenges girls to change the world—or at least their corner of it. By the time they put the final touches on their seven-step project, they will have solved a community problem - not only in the short term, but for years into the future. They are also eligible for scholarships.
Going for the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette, can earn gives girls the chance to do big things and make their community better in the process. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grades are eligible.
The Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. As their team plans and completes their project, they will meet new people and have the kind of fun that happens when girls work with other Girl Scouts to make a difference. Eligible girls must be in the fourth or fifth grade.
