Fr. Bill

Pope Francis has called for a synod on the synodal nature of the Church. The word synod means journeying together. God journeys with us as we journey with one another. Journeying together calls us

to listen to one another and to the Lord. Pope Francis states that the synod process “was con-ceived as an exercise in mutual listening… con-ducted at all levels of the Church.” This listening is not about garnering opinions or taking a survey. It is a matter of listening to the Holy Spirit as we listen to the experiences of one another, our hopes and dreams as well as that inner restless-ness which “impels us to consider what it is best to do, what needs to be preserved or changed.” A Synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, jour-neys together. How is this journeying together hap-pening at St. John the Baptist Catholic Community in Covington? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our journey together? When you read this, what experiences in our parish come to mind? As you savor these experiences and hear those of others, what joys did they provoke? What difficulties or obstacles have they encountered. What wounds have they brought to light? What in-sights have they elicited? Please be watching for a schedule of parish listening session, both in-person and online. Come, share your experience, listen to others and help us discern where the Spirit is calling our parish community.

We are kicking off our an-nual drive to provide Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of families.

Through our partnership with Hilltop Red Apple, we are once again able to provide an entire Thanksgiving meal to a family for $30. These meals are distributed to families through Catholic Community Services, Children’s Home Society, Kent School District, Kent Youth & Family Services, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and St. Vincent de Paul. Each meal comes with a whole turkey, 5lb bag of po-tatoes, bread rolls, canned yams, cranberry sauce, canned vegetable, a box of stuffing, a packet of gravy, and a pumpkin pie. Envelopes will be available in the office and narthex. Checks can be made out to St. John the Baptist or you can donate online by visiting tinyurl.com/sjtbthanksgiving or by phone by texting your donation amount to 253-617-3645. Every dollar helps!

THIS WEEKEND WE CELE-BRATE WORLD MISSION SUNDAY. We celebrate this day by remembering our bap-tismal call – to bring the Gospel to all! The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith supports the work

and witness of the Mission Church, as it provides for priests, religious and lay leaders who offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulner-able communities in the Pope’s missions. Thank you for your generosity.
