THIRTY FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: I WANT TO STAY IN YOUR HOUSE

What would our reaction be if Jesus would say to us, as He did to Zacchaeus in today´s gospel, I want to stay in your house. Would we say: can you come sometime next week? There is a sense that we are not prepared to receive him, every thing is not in order or we would have anything good to offer Him. We may feel that we are not worthy to have Him in our house. I’m not the Pope, I’m not that holy. Some might respond very quickly and say sure, but the moment comes and all is appearance. You set out the best, all is clean and polished, but there is no encounter. He may find a wall so hard to cross into our true being. Truly, isn’t Jesus always telling us that He wants to abide in us. He wants to be united to us, give what we truly need, so that we may have life in fullness. Zacchaeus was a man who had sinned, who lived off others, his god was money, but he had a change of heart. He desires to see Jesus, he’s heard about him, the words full authority, the powerful miracles he had done. He will do anything to catch a glimpse of this Jesus. So, being small of stature and with the immense crowd, he climbs the tree. From that position, not only does He see Jesus, more importantly, Jesus sees Him. What would we do to see Jesus? What are we willing to risk to get a glimpse of the man that all are talking about? Are we willing to be seen? Jesus says he wants to go his house and Zacchaeus comes down, goes to prepare for the visit and receives him with great joy. That visit, that encounter transforms and invites him to enter in the dynamic of reconciliation, of healing and then responding by offering half of his money to the poor and if has done of them wrong, he will give quadruple of the amount to them. Jesus proclaims that salvation had come to his house and that he was also a son of Abraham. He is part of the fold. This gospel has a lesson for all of us, first of all, the power of encountering Christ can transform us all. The worst sinner, the mild one, all of need Him and his healing. That desire to be one with Christ should be always on the forefront, sometimes we let our sins have the power over us, why don’t we let grace have reign over our beings. The gospel finishes today with the words: “He has come to seek and save what was lost”. There is always hope! The gospel reminds us that we can be like those who see Jesus go into the “sinner’s house”, but if we knew God’s will and experienced His love and mercy, shouldn’t we also be going to those who need, who are living a life far from the Lord? St. Vincent de Paul once said: “It is not enough for me to know God, if my neighbor does not know Him.” If we rejoice in knowing Jesus, then it should be manifested in our lives given for all. TRÍGESIMO PRIMER DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO: QUIERO HABITAR EN TU CASA

¿Cuál sería nuestra reacción si Jesús nos dijera, como le hizo a Zaqueo en el evangelio de hoy, quiero quedarme en su casa? Diríamos: ¿puedes venir la semana que viene? Hay una sensación de que no estamos preparados para recibirlo, todo no está en orden o no tendremos algo bueno para ofrecerle. Podemos sentir que no somos dignos de tenerlo en nuestra casa. No soy el Papa, no soy tan santo. Algunos pueden responder muy rápido y decir que sí, pero llega el momento y todo es apariencia. Sacas todo lo mejor, todo está limpio y pulido, pero no hay encuentro. Puede encontrar un muro tan difícil de penetrar para llegar a nuestro verdadero ser. Verdaderamente, ¿no esta Jesús siempre diciéndonos que quiere permanecer en nosotros? Él quiere estar unido a nosotros, dar lo que realmente ne-cesitamos, para que podamos tener una vida plena. Zaqueo era un hombre que había pecado, que vivía de los demás, su dios era el dinero, pero cambió de opinión. Desea ver a Jesús, ha escuchado sobre él, las palabras autoridad plena, los poderosos milagros que había hecho. Hará cualquier cosa para echar un vistazo a este Jesús. Jesús proclama que la salvación había llegado a su casa y que él también era un hijo de Abraham. Él es parte del redil. Este evangelio tiene una lección para todos nosotros, en primer lugar, el poder de encontrarnos con Cristo puede transformarnos a todos. El peor pecador, el leve, todos lo necesitan a Él y su sanación. Pope : Christian hope is like the air we breathe Hope is like throwing an anchor to the other shore. Pope Francis exhorts people to live "in tension" towards an encounter with the Lord, otherwise they will end up corrupted and Christian life will risk becoming a "philosophical doctrine". "I believe that the sufferings of the present time are not comparable to the future glory that will be revealed in us," he says, speaking also of Creation as "waiting with eager longer” for revelation. A Christian who is not capable of being out stretched, of being in tension, is missing something: he will end up stagnant. For him, the Christian life will be a philosophical doctrine, he will live it like that, he will say that it is faith but without hope it is not. Pope Francis then notes how "it is difficult to understand hope". If we speak of faith, we refer to "faith in God who created us, in Jesus who redeemed us; and to reciting the Creed and to knowing concrete things about faith". If we speak of charity, it concerns "doing good to one's neighbour, to others, many works of charity that are done to others". But hope is difficult to understand: it is "the most humble of virtues" that "only the poor can have". If we want to be men and women of hope, we must be poor, poor, not attached to anything. Poor. And open. Hope is humble, and it is a virtue that we work at - so to speak - every day: every day we have to take it back, every day we have to take the rope and see that the anchor is fixed there and I hold it in my hand; every day we have to remember that we have the security, that it is the Spirit who works in us with small things. For this reason, hope is a virtue that cannot be seen: it works from below; it makes us go and look from below. Sacrament of Marriage For a marriage ceremony at St. John the Baptist or Our Lady of Good Counsel, arrangements must be made with the Pastor at least 1 year before the wedding date. The diocesan Marriage Preparation or “Pre-Cana” classes are presented in English, Spanish, Creole, Polish and Italian. The Diocese of Brooklyn have specialized Pre-Cana for Interfaith/Interchurch couples, for couples who are re-marrying and for couples who are convalidating their civil unions. HOLY SACRAMENTS

Infant Baptism Birth to 6 yrs. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Baptism preparation class for parents and Godparents are held on the Tuesday prior to the Baptism Sunday. Parent(s) or Godparent(s), please bring an original birth certificate of the child to the main office where you can begin the process of registration for this beautiful sacrament.

Children’s Faith Formation ages 7 yrs. to 15 yrs. (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) Our Children’s Faith Formation program provides preparation of the Holy Sacraments for children. The program follows Diocesan Guidelines for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The hours for children's faith formation classes are Sunday, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Pentecost Confirmation 16 yrs. and older Are you baptized and received First Holy Communion but have not completed the Sacrament of Confirmation and you are over the age of 16? Our Confirmation only program begins in January in preparation for Pentecost Confirmation typically at the end of May or beginning of June.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) (Becoming a Catholic)

Are you baptized? Have you received First Holy Communion? Are you Confirmed? Adults and youth at least 16 yrs. of age seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church are invited to enter into a process of faith formation. RCIA classes are all year round.

LOS SACRAMENTOS Bautismo para bebes nacimiento a 6 años

Los bautismos para bebes se celebran el primer domingo de cada mes. La clase de preparación del bautismo para los padres y padrinos es el martes antes del domingo del bautismo. Padres o Padrinos, traiga el certificado de nacimiento original del niño a la oficina principal donde pueden comenzar el proceso de inscripción para este hermoso sacramento.

Formación de Fe para Niños 7 años hasta 15 años (Bautismo, Primera Comunión, Confirmación) El programa de formación de fe para nuestros niños se prepara los niños para sus Sacramentos. El programa sigue las Directrices Diocesanas para el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños. Las horas para las clases son domingo, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Confirmación de Pentecostés 16 años y adelante ¿Se ha bautizado y recibido la Primera Comunión pero no ha completado el Sacramento de la Confirmación y tiene más de 16 años de edad? Nuestro programa de Confirmación solo comienza en enero en preparación para la Confirmación de Pentecostés típicamente en mayo o junio.
