Dear 3ABN Family,3ABN in Cuba! As I write this, my heart is so full of thanksgiving! Another

incredible miracle has just taken place at your 3ABN. Let me share of the goodness of God:

I was privileged to visit that beautiful country in 2001 with 3ABN’s produc-tion team to record an evangelistic series. It was an eye-opening experience to be in a Communist country and see the regulations and controls.

As the meetings progressed, crowds of people streamed to the front of the theater to accept Jesus as their personal Savior—even as government officials were rumored to be observing in the audience. Seeing all this changed my life forever. I’d taken so much for granted, and as our flight took off from Havana, I wondered what was ahead for the Cuban people.

Nineteen years later, in 2020, 3ABN Latino general manager, John Dinzey, asked for a meeting to update me about the possibility of going back to Cuba—only this time, it would not be to just visit. Instead, God was opening a huge door for 3ABN Latino to become the first Christian television programming available in that country! This will be made available across the entire country on what is called “The Package”—a digital download of programming each week that can be watched on their TV sets.

I believe this is the first of many doors to be opened for 3ABN in that country, and words cannot express the excitement I feel as I think about every Cuban having the opportunity to watch Bible-based, truth-filled, end-time messages from our 3ABN Latino Network. Praise the Lord!

Every Christian whose life has been changed by the power of God feels

compelled to praise Him out of deep gratitude and love for being redeemed! David certainly felt it when he wrote, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6.

It was not by chance that Danny Shel-ton enlisted Tim Parton, a man of amazing talent, to help launch the 3ABN Praise Him Music Network. Tim has used his talents for the Lord for many years, play-ing for some of the best-known Southern Gospel groups, like Legacy Five, Gold City, The Speer Family, and The Lesters. He’s also appeared many times on the Gaither Homecoming programs, so we were very glad to have him come on board as general manager of our newest television network.

PRAYER AND PRAISETim’s main focus is to look for new ways

to present Christian music to our viewers, and he believes that prayer and praise go together. “Although music is our emphasis,

prayer and testimony are all praise,” he says.“We began this year with Ten Days of

Prayer, and the idea has been transformed into another new program we’re calling Pause to Pray, which will air just after the Ten Days of Prayer in January 2021. It will consist of a 15-minute time of prayer each day, where you’ll hear the voices of your 3ABN family, along with music that will bring you into the Lord’s presence for worship. I’m looking forward to connecting the power of praise and prayer in this way.”

This idea was also behind the new Prayer and Praise Journal. “It features a hymn with a short devotional thought, and there are also two CDs that go with it so that you can hear the featured song for each day,” Tim explains. “It’s a wonderful project, and I’m so grateful for all the help from Ryan Day and Rachael Younkin in putting it together.”

NEW PROJECTSBut that’s not all. There are several more

projects in the making. “We’ll soon be doing more short spots with our friend,

Jennifer LaMountain, and we just launched a new series called Camp Meeting Classics, where we bring back 3ABN camp meeting music from 2009 to 2014,” Tim says. “There are some awesome musical moments in there, and it’s always fun to see how far we’ve come, and what we looked like way back then, isn’t it?

“I’m excited to see how God develops this network,” he continues. “We know that our testimony and praise can change someone’s life. And that’s our goal.

“We hear from many viewers who tell us that they’re flooded with the memories the music brings to them. It causes them to remember when they were kids, singing in family worship or church. Sometimes we need to stir up our praise by reminiscing on what God has done in the past.”

PERSONAL CHALLENGETim knows first-hand about the impor-

tance of keeping praise fresh. “It needs to be genuine,” he says, “and praise can be compared to a relationship. There has to be a commitment there for it to work. Commitment is a choice and a decision, but to keep the relationship fresh, there are some things we have to do every day. We need to learn what those things are and then practice them consistently.

“Praise needs to be genuine—and there’s no way to fake genuine! Running a network like Praise Him is the same as run-ning any other network. But it presents an extra challenge,” he says. “I always thought that working in a Christian book store would be great because I love books, and those books all contain messages about Jesus. But there would be so much to running a book store that I’d hardly have time to read!”

He pauses for a second, then grins. “I guess the irony is that it’s called the 3ABN Praise H i m M u s i c Network—and suddenly, it’s my job to praise Him! It’s my job to create content. I get tickled when someone emails me to say that they watch Friday and Saturday all day, then complain that we’re repeating programs!” He laughs, then adds, “I think to myself, I don’t live Praise Him 24/2. I live it 24/7! However, the Lord doesn’t let me get discouraged. Working with Praise Him Music Network has taught me that I want my praise to be genuine, and I’ve learned to praise Him through the difficult times. Although I’m certainly not perfect at it and don’t do it all the time, I’m learning to do it. Com-mitment is a choice and a decision. So I choose to praise, and suddenly, I am eager to get up in the morning.

“I’m so glad for my assistant, Rachael Younkin,” Tim adds. “She’s been so involved and done so much hard work. You see, I’m the one who dreams up something, but Rachael is the one who makes it happen. She’s very good at that. And then, she’s also a bit of a dreamer herself, so it’s great to have someone gifted in follow-through to help in this network’s ministry.

Our newest 3ABN family members are Ricky and Jasmine Carter. A talented

editor, animator, and graphic artist, Ricky recently joined 3ABN’s Dare to Dream

Network.Born in Washington, D.C., but

raised mostly in Nashville, Tennes-see, Ricky attended Seventh-day

Adventist schools but says that up to his senior year at Madi-son Academy, he didn’t know what he wanted to do. Finally, he decided on computer science, but a year later, he switched to commercial art. “Then I got an intern-ship with an illustrator, and another one at Post Masters, a post-production studio in Nashville, during my senior year in college.

“Upon graduation, I worked at a different post house for a year and learned all about video, then returned

to Post Masters and eight months later, became their art director, doing music videos, television and radio commercials, film work, and national ad campaigns. Then I went to work for the Inspiration Network in Charlotte, North Carolina, and eventually came back to Tennessee to work for the Country Music Network for 12 years.” He pauses for a moment, “And that’s when I met Jasmine through an online Christian dating service,” he says with a smile.

A Wonderful FamilyJasmine was born in Jamaica to Seventh-day Adventist parents, and moved to Boston

in 1989. “I earned an undergrad business degree in Boston and an MBA in Michigan, and have had a long career in mortgage banking” she says. “But my passion for making a direct impact in people’s lives and health started a couple of years ago with health coaching.

“One of the reasons we felt we were a good match is that our children bonded extremely well at the first meeting. Ricky has three boys from a previous marriage, and I have two. It’s as if they had known each other for a very long time.”

They were married in 2003, but by 2007, Ricky made another important decision. “I loved working in the commercial world with all the big ad agencies and many of the Gospel and Country Music stars,” he says. “But as my relationship with God grew

stronger, it was not fulfilling. I began to lose interest in promoting that type of work, and eventually, it became downright conflicting. I began to ask the Lord for a way out and started working for myself. Then, in 2009, Remnant Publications in Coldwater, Michigan, asked me to co-produce their Bible Alive series, so we moved up there and it was a great experience. I did some writing, and a lot of video editing, animation, and graphics. But in 2011, they closed that department and I went back to working for myself. By then, 95 percent of my clients were solid Seventh-day Adventist Christian ministries, like Amazing Facts, the Michigan Conference, and The Hope Channel, and I felt blessed to be able to use my talents for the Lord.”

A New MinistryThen, in 2012, 3ABN launched

the Dare to Dream urban tele-vision network, and Dr. Yvonne Shelton asked Ricky to work on a graphics package for a new pro-gram called, Take It to the Bank. “Several years later, I had lunch with Dare to Dream general man-ager, Jason Bradley, and he said he was looking for a video editor. So I said, ‘Then why don’t you ask me?’

“He seemed surprised that I would want to do that, and I didn’t hear any more about it for months, so I just put it out of my mind. Then one day he called, and after Jasmine and I prayed about it, we decided to come to 3ABN!”

“We love our warm church family in Michigan and will miss them dearly,” Jas-mine says. “It has been a delightful experience servicing the Hillsdale Church as women’s ministry leader and treasurer for several years. But we saw God leading us here, and we wanted to be where He wanted us next.”

Jasmine will continue to work as a remote mortgage underwriter and hopes to bless her new community with her knowledge and experience as a certified health coach who specializes in helping those with obesity, pre-diabetes, or diabetes type 2. “Last year I was blessed to facilitate Dr. Wes Youngberg’s Diabetes Undone program for our church and community members, and I’d love to do the same here in southern Illinois,” she says.

Ricky also senses a new calling. “God called artists like Bezalel and Oholiab by name to work on the Ark of the Covenant and the tabernacle furniture,” he says. “He gave them special talents to create beautiful things for Him, and I believe He does that today. I feel like I’m walking on holy ground, and before I start my work, I ask the Lord for a smidgen of His creativity, and He always blesses. I keep discov-ering new things I can do for Him, and that makes me feel happy and fulfilled.”

E ach month, we hear from so many who are blessed by the music on

3ABN Radio and 3ABN Praise Him Music Network. We are so grateful to our wonderful singers and musicians who use their talents to glorify our Creator, and who selflessly share their songs with us. It is good to praise our Mighty God!

BRINGING COMFORT AND PEACEMusic has brought comfort and peace to

so many, including Kent, who wrote saying, “Thank you, so much, for your ministry. I find it is very meaningful to play the 3ABN Radio Music Channel when I’m getting ready for bed at night. I like the variety of musical styles, and that the songs are mes-sage songs. I tuned in especially frequently after the death of my 14-year-old son after a motorcycle accident, three years ago. It was remarkable how many times the songs would touch my heart. May God continue to bless you in your ministry.”

Sharon writes, “Many thanks for the Praise Him Music Network. Indeed, bless-ings and joy are received in my home with gratitude from the wonderful Christian music. Last year my mother passed away, and the ability to watch your channel at any time was a comfort during my mourning period.”

think that music can quite often reach people where the spoken word may not touch them, so we pray that the Lord will continue to inspire you and your team of song writers to create many more won-derful songs glorifying God, singing the message of salvation, and admonishing us to stay faithful.”

Ginger writes, “Thank you for send-ing the undiluted truth throughout the world. Danny’s voice has a soothing, healing, melodious tone. God bless him, and each of you who minister to people all over the world.”

RELIEVING LONELINESS AND FEAROur viewers tell us how much Tim

Parton’s music has enhanced their worship experience during the global pandemic, and helped to relieve their loneliness and fear.

Daphne writes, “Since my church has been cancelled due to COVID-19, I have been blessed by the various 3ABN pro-grams on Sabbath. They have helped me to cope as I sing along.”

Judy writes, “Dear Tim, I live alone, and because of the coronavirus, I can’t get around much anymore, and it’s very lonely. But I just wanted to thank you for the blessing of your singing and talking this afternoon. I have been so blessed that I wish to make a special donation to 3ABN. Thank you so very much.”

And then there’s this email, from Lou, who says, “I felt the urge to share this with you: I am not an Adventist, much less a member of any church or denomination. However, I have been listening to 3ABN Radio Music Channel every day because

of a granddaughter we’ve been raising. Due to her traumatic early childhood, she has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She was unable to sleep more than a few hours at a time during the first few months she was with us because of her nightmares and fears, so I’d find calm music to help her sleep. MUSIC AND PRAYERThe combination of music and prayer

is very special, as Richard expressed in his letter: “Last night, I was particularly touched when I tuned in and found Tim Parton praying for certain people while he softly played. Then he read the Bible while playing the piano. Bible verses are more apt to stick in my mind if I hear them played to music. I had never heard him praying while playing before, and I prayed along with him. We deeply appreciate you and want to say thank you!”

No doubt, music is one of the most effective means of impressing our hearts with deep spiritual truths. It is also a way the Lord can bring courage and gladness to the oppressed. A soul weighed down by despair often recalls a long-forgotten song or hymn from their childhood and begins to sing. And when they do, temptation loses its power and bright sunshine floods their mind, expelling dark feelings and making their hearts light again.

So please join your 3ABN musical family in praising the Lord. It will draw us closer to God—and to each another!

A very exciting aspect of working in television ministry is the constant innovation of the technology we use. Tube cameras, TV consoles, videotape, TV stations, and even

satellite dishes have pretty much been replaced with chip sensors, flat screens, video files, and the Internet—allowing for better quality, much lower equipment cost, and tremendously better efficiency and reliability.

On Being Good Stewards“As a ministry, 3ABN relies completely on your prayers and financial support; and over

the years, you’ve enabled us to produce ever-better programming to reach a wide range of people and cultures around the world,” says 3ABN President, Greg Morikone. “We are grateful to our supporters and to God for supplying our needs, and we are careful stewards of those resources. We also watch for better ways to utilize the talents God has given our workers.

“So our goal is to begin using robotic camera heads in our studios; but unlike many production centers, we are not looking to replace people with hardware as a cost-cutting measure. I assure you that no 3ABN jobs have been lost as a result. Instead, those camera operators will be working in pre- and post-production roles, such as program development, editing, and even shooting more things on location. All this makes it possible for us to produce more content.”

Versatility“We actually used our very first robotic camera on a track system during this summer’s

virtual ASI Convention and in our 3ABN Homecoming,” Greg says, “and it worked beautifully! There is so much that needs to be done, and robotic cameras are the most cost-effective way to get more done for the Lord, while still keeping all our employees.

"Time is running short in this world, and we have a small window of time to proclaim the three angels’ messages and the soon-coming of Jesus Christ. As He said, in John 4:35, ‘Look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!’”

1. Over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic in small amount of water until caramelized.

2. Add squash and seasoning to sauté mix-ture, then add remaining liquids. Cover and heat for about 17 minutes.

3. Blend mixture until creamy, adding additional seasoning, if desired. Garnish with sage.
