That's a shame because the verse ends a beautiful parable about someone who serves his Lord faithfully. It is the first verse I thought of when Eric Waraas told me he believed that the time had come for him to resign as our Youth Director. It was over 13 years ago when Eric said that he would be glad to help with the Senior High youth group. Eric, a child of the congregation, had participated in the church school as a child, then went through the School of Faith, being commissioned as an 8th grader. Eric was very involved in the Senior High youth group throughout his years as a student at Cherry Hill East. Returning from college and beginning his career with State Farm insurance, Eric volunteered with our Senior Highs. When our Director of Christian Education, who led our Senior High ministry, resigned, Eric said he would step into that ministry "until a new person" was brought on board. And, of course, that was thirteen years ago! In those thirteen years, Eric Waraas has faithfully served Christ by loving and guiding our Senior High youth but the time has come for Eric to begin a new chapter at Trinity. The Personnel Committee and the Session agreed with Eric that with the calling of Rev. Craven this was the right time for this transition. While I am sad to see Eric resign, I am profoundly grateful for his wonderful work as our Youth Director. I am not only thankful for the ministry he has had among our youth, I am personally grateful for his being a team-minded colleague and a good friend. While we all owe Eric Waraas a debt of gratitude, he would be the first to tell us that he has been part of an incredible group of volunteers who have walked with our young people. On November 29 I invite you to join us as we give thanks to God for the work of Eric; it will be a very special day of worship and thanksgiving. While I am so very glad we are not saying goodbye to Eric (Thank the Lord!), we do want to take the opportunity to offer our praise to the Lord of the Church as we celebrate Eric's 13 years of service. On Sunday November 29 we will be able to say together "Well done, good and faithful servant!” Hope you can join us on this day! As always- I’m Hoping Big- Gregory Staff Pastor/Head of Staff The Rev. Well Done, Faithful Servant! "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'" Matthew 25:23

Too often this verse from Matthew's Gospel is used nearly exclusively at Christian funerals.

Life Death

Redemption

How do the major religions address these concerns. What beliefs and traditions does a Buddhist, an Islam follower, a person of Jewish faith and a Christian have in common? What are the differences? Every one is invited to join the Adult Ministires series on Comparative Religion to try to fathom the answers to these questions. The Sept. 27 segment of the series is done but there are three more dates: October 4, 11 and 18. It is never too late to join.. Our own Margaret Gammie will continue leading the discussion starting at 11AM right after the coffee half hour at the Witherspoon Center.

Emmy Award-winning Journalist, Anchorwoman and Author Lu Ann Cahn to Speak at Trinity Do you ever feel overwhelmed by life? Whether it is the demands of job and family, a health condition or a diagnosis of a life-threatening disease, it is easy to get caught in the downward spiral of hopelessness.

If that describes you or someone you love, mark your calendars for Sunday, October 25, at 10:45 AM in the Community Room. That is the day that Lu Ann Cahn, former breaking news reporter, anchor and entertainment show host of NBC 10 in Philadelphia, will talk about how she was motivated to get her life "unstuck" after her cancer diagnosis. Cahn says she felt in a rut when she was diagnosed but soon realized not only that she had a fight for life and death on her hands but she had no time to lose in experiencing life. That's why she started doing one new thing every day for a year, a goal that helped spawn a blog called Year of Firsts and her book I Dare Me.

A survivor of breast cancer, Cahn has also had surgery for ulcerative colitis and kidney cancer and speaks regularly for cancer support groups and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. She hopes her survivor experience inspires others.

Sign-up for her talk, Getting Your Life Unstuck, in Fellowship Hall.

Children and Youth Ministries Nursery School News

Our 2015-16 school year is off to a wonderful start. All of our students, both new and returning are settling in and discovering that Trinity Nursery School is a great place to learn, discover and make new friends. As the weather begins to turn and the fall colors show up in the artwork throughout the school, our students are busy learning and creating beautiful creations to display in our classrooms and hallways. We would love to invite you to come for a tour and see our beautiful school.

This year we will offer an extended day until 1:30 for our 3 and 4 year old friends. This program will be offered again this year 3 afternoons a week from 11:30-1:30. If your child attends a morning Kindergarten program, you may want to consider Extended Day at Trinity for this school year. It is a great way to bring discovery back into learning for your child. They bring a packed lunch, eat with friends, play in the playground, or our indoor recreation station, and then wind up the afternoon with a math or language arts game, manipulatives and music & movement. Call for information and we will send you a registration packet and schedule a tour.

In addition to our older classes, we have 2.5 year old and a 3 year old classes, as well as our toddler time class. Out toddler time class is for 18-24 month old children and their caregiver; mom, dad, grandparents or sitter!

With fifty years of academic excellence behind us, we are a great choice for young children in our community. We would love for your child to discover, create and learn at Trinity Nursery School. We still have limited space available in some of our classes. Remember to tell your friends and neighbors about Trinity Nursery School. Marina Pappas 856-795-3123

Youth Ministries Every Sunday we read the back of the program for worship – ‘Trinity is an Inviting Community following Christ for Life - we recognize the importance of life long learning to further our knowledge of God and better grow in our relationship with God, our families and our Community. The Youth Ministries programs are a significant building block of that knowledge and faith for our Junior and Senior High students.

Youth Ministries oversees the Programs for our Junior and Senior Highs. Another exciting year has begun for the youth of Trinity with the kick-off of the Commissioning and Senior High programs that have been in planning for several months. Our veteran 8th grade acolytes are joined by the 7th graders in opening our services by carrying in the Bible and Cross, and lighting our candles as we open our hearts to God’s word every Sunday morning. Senior Highs re-engage in fellowship and activities after a successful summer Mission Trip where they came closer to God by giving of their time and talent to help those in need.

We celebrate the addition of our Associate Pastor to help guide our activities as we teach, support, and encourage these special young people as they explore and grow their faith in Jesus Christ. Our youth are the future; therefore we re-dedicate ourselves to Trinity’s Youth Ministries for 2015-16. Stacey Blackmer, Chair, and Mark Miles, Vice-Chair, are grateful to be joined by many enthusiastic adult volunteers from the congregation. Please join us as we anticipate a blessed and successful year for Trinity’s Youth Ministries!

Children and Youth Ministries Senior High Mission Trip in Review by Sarah Gagarin

As of today it has been two months since our Senior High group and several brave adult leaders clambered into two passenger vans early on a Saturday morning and set off for Point Pleasant West Virginia; even with all the time I’ve had to reflect on the trip I find it hard to encapsulate what has happened into a few words. I climbed into my seat, stuffed animal and headphones in hand, knowing that this was my last mission trip as a senior high, perhaps what was even harder to swallow was knowing that at the end of this week the seniors-who I had known for what seemed like forever-were going to be leaving for college far to soon. However, once we arrived my downer feelings of knowing that this would be over by the coming Saturday were drowned out by the glowing positivity of everyone on the trip, we’d made it! Through truck stops and traffic and getting one van stuck in a ditch we’d made it to Point Pleasant. Our host Pastor John was more than excited to show us around his church and our home for the week, and much to the surprise of everyone in the group and old friend emerged from the woodwork. Ross Holland had been with us on my first Mission Trip as an expert on the area and the people we’d be helping, and to the joy of all of us he was Pastor John’s son and would be with us again.

After a day of unpacking and a day spent at the local waterpark it was time for the real work to begin. Once more my last mission trip paralleled my first in my work crew consisting of Rich Fletcher (fearless leader and construction know how), Brian Hamilton (moral support and sheetrock cutting extraordinaire), Olivia Marcelli (master mudder and model for our new clothing line “Construction Chic”), and myself (paparazzi and wood-tile master). Our site was a tractor trailer home in need of a new shower, wood tile floor, new wall in the master bedroom, and new floor vents. With our tool belts in hand we set to work, most of the time inside the nicely air-conditioned home and sometimes in the steaming hot spidery world underneath the house. With each day that passed we grew closer to our homeowners and soon enough they began to open their hearts up to us. A similar sentiment was seen across the board with daily updates from each group accompanied with many hilarious candids. However, the end of the week had to come. We said goodbye to our seniors with tears in our eyes, thanked Pastor John and Ross for all their help and returned to our passenger vans to come home. A bittersweet ending sometimes more sweet with the memories I’d made than bitterness over what had ended. Walking away from a trip and looking back on it is always an interesting feeling. The Senior High Mission Trip is an experience like no other, each week is unique and amazing in a way that cannot be described easily. This week left me with the acute realization of how deeply people can affect the lives of those around them. Each homeowner now has something in their house that was not there before, a new piece of their lives is forever attached to us. Even though they pass out of our lives we will never leave their’s, and yet I know I will remember the face of each homeowner I worked for and the people I worked with. In that sense they have forever had an affect on me.

Library  Corner  We have three new fiction books that have been on the best seller list recently.

Go Set a Watchman By Harper Lee Harper Lee is famous as the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, which has sold over 40 million copies since it was published in 1960. It was the first book of Harper

Lee’s to be published, but it wasn’t the first book she wrote. When she tried to publish Go Set a Watchman in the 1950s, her editor suggested that she shelve it and write about the childhood of the book’s heroine, Jean Louise Finch (nicknamed Scout).

Even though it was written first, Go Set a Watchman is actually a sequel to the story in Mockingbird. It’s about Scout as an adult visiting her father Atticus, who is now infirm, in the same small Alabama town. It is interesting to see the precocious, inquisitive child as an adult and to get a different view of the characters, but there is a “spoiler alert.” Atticus Finch (the revered lawyer in Mockingbird) is portrayed in a far less positive light and may be a disappointment to readers who would rather remember him with admiration.

The Girl on the Train By Paula Hawkins The story is about Rachel, a divorced alcoholic prone to memory lapses who is in denial that she’s been fired from her job after one too many liquid lunches. She still takes a commuter train to London every morning and she day dreams about an attractive couple

she sees at a particular stop who seem to have an idyllic existence. When Rachel witnesses some strange things about the couple, a complicated mystery begins to unfold.

The book has been compared to Gone Girl for its use of different perspectives and its page-turner qualities: “The novel cleverly jumps back and forth in time to first reveal the mystery and then to eventually unravel it. It gets harder and harder to put down as the story screeches toward its unexpected ending.”

God Help the Child By Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison is the recipient of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature. Her new book is about Bride, a stunningly beautiful, very successful young black woman and her

relationships to people around her. Its basic theme is about the way the sufferings of childhood can shape, or misshape, the life of an adult. The book is very different from Morrison’s previous writing because it is set in modern times and has more plot and less poetic symbolism.

If you would like us to purchase a particular book for the Trinity Library, stop by on Sunday or contact Dottie Dunfee ([email protected]).

Hooray for Our Rally Day Helpers! Thank you to everyone who helped make Rally Day 2015 such a tremendous success. HUGE thanks to Doug and D.J. Nork. They did all the heavy lifting (literally) by setting up tables and chairs in both Fellowship Hall AND the Community Room on Friday afternoon! We felt like kids on Christmas morning when we walked in Saturday and saw everything already in place!

Thanks to Bob Thorpe, Elissa Goss, George Sanders, Christie Skill Hernandez, and Ray Bastnagel for helping us complete the set-up tasks. Elizabeth Boyle and Elissa helped us get all the food on the table Sunday morning, then Elissa did most of the dishwashing duty too! Also helping us with clean-up were Nancy and Jim Roberts, Kurt Goetz and Willemijn Don, Betty Stockwell, Betty Penney, Paul Guelich, and Ray Bastnagel.

Thanks to our “Grill Master” Bill Carboni, who cooked 192 hot dogs – believe it or not, all but six were eaten!! Thanks to everyone who contributed food for the event. There were so many delicious salads, side dishes, and desserts. It wouldn’t have been much of a Rally Day Picnic without all of your delicious contributions.

Thanks to Caroline Faulkner who shared her amazing face-painting talents, which helped make the day extra special.

If we’ve overlooked anyone, please know we are so grateful for all of the assistance. We feel blessed to be part of such a warm and wonderful community of faith and we look forward to seeing the great energy of Rally Day grow throughout the program year!

Audrey  and  Joe  Azevedo

Audrey and Joe Azevedo joined Trinity by Reaffirmation of Faith. Joe was born and raised in California. Audrey, the daughter of Norris and Arlene Anders, has been coming to Trinity since she was a teenager. Audrey and Joe have been married for 35 years and have lived in Marlton for 33 of those years.

Audrey is a manicurist at Louis Christian Robert John Salon and Spa. Joe is a project controller for Henkels and McCoy.

They’ve attended worship at Trinity often over the years. They finally decided to join “because Rev. Faulkner and the people of the church are so warm and friendly; it felt like home.”

Kyle  and  Lexy  Azevedo

Kyle (Joe and Audrey’s son) and Lexy are originally from Marlton, and moved to Woodbury about four and a half years ago when they bought their first home.

Kyle is a Senior Store Supervisor with Republic Bank and Lexy is the Lien Release Supervisor with Freedom Mortgage.

They chose Trinity because it is the church their extended family has attended for years. Kyle and Lexy welcomed their first child, Harley Jo, on August 16th. They look forward to baptizing their daughter at Trinity this fall. “What better place to do this than in a familiar setting,” Lexy said.

Janelle  Curl

AnneMarie  Palatnik  and  Sara  Palatnik

AnneMarie Palatnik and her daughter, Sara, joined Trinity this summer. AnneMarie grew up in Willingboro NJ. She moved to Cherry Hill 23 years ago after marrying her husband Barry. AnneMarie is the Assistant Vice President of Clinical Learning and Academic Affiliations at Virtua. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Nursing Practice at LaSalle University. AnneMarie was a visitor at Trinity for two years, watching her daughter sing in the youth choir before deciding to make Trinity her church home. AnneMarie and Barry have two children, Sean and Sara.

Sara was born and raised in Cherry Hill. She is a freshman at Elizabethtown College, majoring in music therapy. Her love of music and her decision to share her musical gifts with others through her chosen major has been greatly influenced by Becky Kain and Lisa Marcelli. One of the things that she will miss most about being away at college is singing with the choir on Sundays.

We’re glad you’re here AnneMarie and we look forward to seeing Sara whenever she is home!

11th Annual Holiday Bazaar

Date: Saturday November 14, 2015 Time: 9:00 am—3:00 pm

The Craft Show is coming soon … We need crafters—Please visit area craft shows and invite crafters with interesting merchandise to apply for our Craft Show. We already have a wonderful variety but we need more. Santa’s Helpers Needed: Please sign up during coffee hour for the many, many jobs at the Bazaar. Anything from meeting and greeting, selling tickets for the Tombola, helping with set-up, food court, kitchen, clean-up, etc! If there are specific jobs that you prefer, please make sure that you indicate that on the sign-up sheet or in your email to us. We specifically need people for set-up on Thursday evening, and clean-up on Saturday late afternoon. This includes carrying tables to and from the Witherspoon classrooms. It is important that O’Dell Hall, the Community Room and the Sunday School classrooms be clean and ready for Sunday morning’s activities.

Tombola Guidelines: This is a fun project for any group in our church. Pick a dynamite theme, do some shopping and enjoy putting together a colorful and fun filled basket. Take a look at our list of ideas during coffee hour — and we will help you select a basket that will fit your budget!

Remember: All baskets will be wrapped by the Committee and baskets will be provided if needed. Delivery: Tombola items must be delivered to the church by Sunday, November 1.

Contact: Linda Thorpe at 856-428-6233 or [email protected]. Nancy Roberts at 609-261-4988 or [email protected]

Sign Up During Coffee Hour Beginning 10/4/15! Silent Auction Items: A suitable silent auction donation would be a new item or service of significant value like vacation homes, golf rounds, tickets to sports events, etc. We also suggest valuable services like babysitting, car washing, house cleaning, etc. You need to provide an estimate of the fair market value of your donation. A starting bid will be established and the highest bidder wins! Sign up and provide details to the Committee by Sunday, Nov.8. We will produce certificates and bid sheets for the Auction. If you are donating an item such as a painting or a quilt, please have it at church by Sunday, Nov.8. Contact Victoria Ebiri at [email protected]

The Bake-Sale: We always need plenty of cookies, breads, cakes and pies for the bake sale. The after-lunch crowds simply love the dessert table. Please deliver your uncut baked goods in a disposable container at the downstairs kitchen on Friday, Nov. 13 at 4:00pm and if you can, feel welcome to stay and help with the packaging! For information, please contact Ron & Elaine Schon at 856-767-2748 or [email protected]

Food Court: The food court will be open at 9:00am for breakfast and appr. 11:00am for lunch. The menu will include bagels, Danish, hot dogs, pork roll and an Egg McMuffin/sandwich. We will continue to serve chili for lunch! Please sign up during coffee hour if you are interested in providing a crockpot with chili. Although the grill closes at 1:30pm, water and sodas will still be for sale until 3:00pm. If you are interested in helping in this area please contact Donna Allen at (609-230-4519).

Trinity Church Mission Trip Fund: All proceeds raised from this Holiday Bazaar go directly to this fund. Please help in any way you can. General Inquiries: For all general questions or concerns, please contact Susan MacDonald at 609-841-7952 or email at [email protected]

Sewers, Knitters and Crocheters Wanted for Mission Work

Do you sew, knit or crochet? Would you like to use those skills in a mission project? Cancer and Conversation is sponsoring a collection of items for Cancer victims in the Delaware Valley. We hope many in our congregation will help. Needs are:

Sewers You may remember from last year's collection that one of the items that our contact, Mothers Matter, collects for their Cancer Care Baskets is a cancer pillow, a small 8x10 pillow that a breast cancer patient can use as a pad under her seat belt shoulder strap, support under her arm during chemo, under her breast or any other time that comfort is needed. Not only is this an easy and useful hands-on mission, but it may also give you sewers an idea of what to do with all the extra fabric you may have accumulated at home.(Please note that the directions for the pillows vary slightly from last year's directions.)

New directions for the pillows : • Cut two fabric pieces 9” by 11”. Please, NO flannel or velour. Mothers Matter would like

bright, cheerful colors in cotton. • With right sides together, sew a 3/8 inch seam on THREE sides. LEAVE ONE OF THE

SHORT ENDS ENTIRELY OPEN. • Turn right side out, iron flat but DO NOT STUFF. The volunteers of Mothers Matter will

put their logo tag on the open end before stuffing and sewing up.

Knitters and Crocheters This year Cancer and Conversation is also hoping to provide items to local chemo facilities. Needs include hats and lap blankets.

Hats- Use a pattern of your choice. Those hats, of various colors and styles, will not only provide warmth but will also be a lovely style statement for those women who lose hair while undergoing chemo.

Lap blankets- Again, this is a comfort item for chemo patients and will be made available at chemo sites for patients to take home. Our group has researched sizes and, although they vary, a standard size seems to 48"x 36", long enough to cover a seated adult.

A collection basket for the pillows and other Cancer care items will be located in the Fellowship Hall. All items are due by October 25. Questions? Contact Linda Thorpe [email protected] or call her at 856-428-6233.
