Faithful Servant Award

• A faithful servant award
• not tangible• not earthly
• it is lasting • and eternal• decay nor rust can
destroy• not even death.

• Jesus told His disciples
• a parable – about the Second
Coming of the Son of Man
– about servanthood.

• Here, Jesus commended – the faithful servant
• condemned – the wicked servant

What are the qualities of a servant who is faithful?
• always sober and awake
• would not let the house of the master be broken into by thieves
• One who is found doing what the master wants him to do even he was away.
• takes care of his fellow servants
• give them their food at the proper time

The wicked servant is one:
• who plays around while the master of the house is away;
• who beats his fellow servants unjustly;
• who eats and drinks with drunkards.

faithful to his tasks even if the master is away is awarded master’s trust.
• Jesus said, “Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. Trust of the master is the award.

• wicked servant whom the master finds at his coming unfaithful and disobedient
• punished severely
• Jesus said, “the servant’s master… will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”

• Jesus wants his disciples to be the faithful servant.
• The disciples are Jesus’ faithful servants and even gave up their lives serving God.
• Their motivation was not the award that awaits them but on their love for Jesus.

• Here, Jesus entrusted to him the care of the flock.
• He was faithful to it until he gave up his life loving Jesus and his sheepfold.
• This was Peter’s motivation as He confessed his love for Jesus in John 21:15-19.
• He and the other disciples were faithful servants.

• We are reminded to be God’s faithful servants not because of the award but because of our love of God.
