This marked Slater’s fourth elite tour win at Trestles (2005, 2007, 2008, and 2010) and 43rd total elite tour victory. Slater used the new double-elimination round to his advantage, coming back in Round 5 with a vengeance after being knocked out by Australian Owen Wright in Round 4. Australian Bede Durbidge came in second, beating current ASP World No.2 Jordy Smith in the Quarterfinals and Dane Reynolds in the Semifinals. “I think the new format is good for the fans,” Slater said. “They get to see us surf a little more and it was definitely a different mindset for me paddling out yesterday. If you win you get a round off and if you loose you get to surf again. I think it’s good overall. It does make us surf once more than we would normally, but I don’t mind out here.” Slater beat Durbidge with a score of 18.3 over Durbidge’s 14.3 in the Final. KELLY WINS AGAIN

Newport Beach, California– Cancer survivor and Newport Beach native Jack Shimko has announced that he will attempt to paddle from Santa Barbara through the Channel Islands to Newport Beach to increase cancer awareness and raise money for the search for a cure. PADDLE2LIVE, will be a 10-day, 150-mile journey for the Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor who will be paddling for a fundraising goal of $500,000.An avid waterman and outdoor enthusiast, Shimko was diagnosed with cancer just days after his 29th birthday. During periods of extreme pain and nausea, Shimko would picture himself out on the water, pitting himself against the open ocean on a paddle board. That dream sustained him and Shimko successfully battled the disease and is currently in remission. Just 16 weeks into chemotherapy, Shimko fulfilled his vision by competing in the 2009 World Paddle Board Championship in San Francisco. Mild hypothermia and a last place finish did not diminish Shimko’s victory, and he left San Francisco determined to undertake a more grueling challenge that would allow him to use his paddle board as a vehicle to raise funds for cancer treatment. PADDLE2LIVE was born.

“It’s great to be able to use my own survival to raise awareness and help fund the type of research that saved my life,” said Shimko. “In the end, though, PADDLE2LIVE isn’t about me. It’s about contributing to the fight against cancer and the search for a cure; it’s about making sure that all people fighting this disease have access to the care and the treatment they need; and it’s about inspiring other young people to beat the disease and live their dreams.”Shimko will depart from Santa Barbara on the first 29-mile leg of the 150-mile paddle on September 23rd. He will complete his trip ten days later, on Saturday, October 2nd at Newport Beach Bay.

To reach PADDLE2LIVE’s $500,000 goal, Shimko is encouraging individuals, organizations and companies in California and beyond to get involved in any way possible. To donate and for more information on PADDLE2LIVE, please visit PADDLE2LIVE’s Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/paddle2live

PADDLE2LIVE will raise funds for UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Livestrong Foundation

Right from the spiritual birthplace of the traditional, ocean-based culture Makaha, this year's ultimate ASP World Longboard Championship, the OXBOW Wave Sliders’ event takes places from October 30 until November 7, 2010 on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. This unique opportunity for longboarders to be under the spotlight will lure participants to several expression sessions true to the maxim of living their passion for the Ocean: SUP (Stand Up Paddle), Alaia (original wooden board) and Surfing sessions will be at the heart of this multi-faceted event. It will highlight a professional sliding ASP World Championship that gathers the best longboarders worldwide. The worldwide Longboard community will be given the one-off to follow 32 of the best Longboarders selected, coming together on the basis of last year's top rankings and the regional ASP selection:

you'll be able to witness the talents of international and local heroes such as the Australian winner of the 2009 event in the Maldives, Harley Ingleby who will be present and will fight to keep his crown…But be careful Harley, this year’s competition sounds quite challenging! The French ISA Champion Antoine Delpero, the Hawaiian natural born surfers Duane DeSoto and Bonga Perkins as well as the American triple World Champion Colin McPhilips will put their hearts and souls in challenging the current titleholder. Inspired by the Hawaiian ocean spirit and lifestyle, the foundation “Na Kama Kai” organizes special clinics for children from all over the world. Hence, we are proud to devote the first day of our event to our children so as to let them discover the ocean and its multi-faceted spirit. Be part of this ultimate Longboard celebration and join us from anywhere in the world live!

OXBOW Surf-Wear Presents The Wave Sliders Event in Makaha

BLAK BOXBLAK BOX offers a fuller curvy outline with a higher and more defined hip pulled from the fins into a nice straight directional tail curve through to the wider tail pod. JS has spent a lot of time on this model combining oldschool outlines with the latest bottom curves showcasing plenty of detail. Once again Jason has come through with another house favorite amongst the JS pro team for smaller waves. The entry is super flat with a doublescoop concave under the chest leading into relatively deeper double concave between the fins and single concave exit out through the wider tail. The deck is flat giving the board an overall feeling of extra forgiveness allowing you to ride this board thinner than a normal performance board. You will find this board fast in flat sections because extra foam has been left under your chest and front foot. Ride this board 3-4 inches shorter than normal.
