Introduction To SHGsIntroduction To SHGs

Self-help groups are voluntary, small group structures for mutual aid and the accomplishment of a special purpose. They are usually formed by peers who have come together for mutual assistance in satisfying a common need, overcoming a common handicap or life-disrupting problem and bringing about desired social and/or personal change.

Key FindingsKey Findings

SOCIAL PARTICIPATION

INTERPERSONAL TRUST

◦If one member fails to pay the monthly fund contribution then after considering her problem the money is paid up by other members.

Page 9: OB Presentation FINAL

WORK ATMOSPHERE◦ They work with same dedication and passion as they

do for their own business and household work. Here the money factor plays the secondary role.

◦ The are highly professional in their approach and interpersonal communication at the work place.

them and their respective duty timings.◦ They duly consider and understand each others’ personal

time constraints and assigns their work suitably.

DECISION MAKING PROCESS

◦Regarding acceptance or rejection of any order or contract all the group members decide through a meeting with the secretary.

◦The secretary takes the final decision after taking into consideration the views and decision of all the other members.

family members, then the other members from her SHG visit her place and convince and persuade the respective persons so that she is allowed to continue her work.

GROUP ACTIVITIES◦ According to the members in some groups the activities are

decided prior to the work process.◦ While according to members of some other groups the

activities are decided in the due work process.

CONCLUSIONCONCLUSION

On the basis of our findings, it can be concluded that:

Almost all the group characteristics had positive and significant relationships.

A greater percentage of women were impacted positively by being members of SHGs.

The members of the groups that we have studied are not highly educated or people with specialized training, still the group dynamics that these groups are practicing is very effective and productive.

They understand the various aspects of a group operation.
