SP Kids & Students

REGISTRATION FOR 2016-17 BEGINS THIS WEEK!

SP Kids registration is for children age 3 through 6th grade. If you have not yet done so, please complete a set of new registration forms for your child. If you filled out a registration form for your child in previous years, you will simply need to verify or update the information.

Our fall program begins the weekend of

August 13 and 14.

SP KIDS is looking for teachers and

assistants for the fall, in preschool

through grade 4. This is a great ministry

to share with a friend...we love teaching

teams! A little prep is necessary, but

you don’t need to be a Biblical scholar.

Please see Debbie Quick for details.

DIOCESAN PRISON MINISTRY PROGRAM

You already know about the prison worship services that St. Peter’s offers on three of the yards at Perryville Women’s Prison, but did you also know that St. Peter’s has a significant presence on the Diocesan Prison Ministry Program? Four of the nine member team are from St. Peter’s, the remaining members are from various churches in the valley. Last year we created our website: prison.azdiocese.org and populated it with numerous resources and options for ministering to those in prison as well as those who have been released. Check it out, I’ll bet you’ll be surprised by all the opportunities! This year the team just submitted a response to the U.S. Sentencing Commission’s open request for priority issues to be considered in the upcoming legislative session. Our response was a call to replace the death sentence with life sentences and life without parole and reflected the Episcopal Church’s stance regarding abolishing the death penalty. Currently the team is working on a resolution for our upcoming General Convention to create a Prison Awareness Month for the Diocese. Members of our team are also involved with the Valley Interfaith Project (VIP) group and are delighted that this organization has selected prison advocacy as one of their newest areas of focus. There are so many needs to be met for those who are in jail or prison and we’d like to talk with you about them. Please feel free to ask me, Deacon Gay, Jack Churchill, or Chris Leedy about the Diocesan Prison Ministry Program and the many different ways that you can be involved in serving “the least of these.”

BACK TO SCHOOL CD PLAYER DRIVE FOR

TEACHERS

This year our Back-to-School drive is dedicated to teachers. Teachers are at the bottom of the list to receive supplies and things they need in the classroom. They often spend their own money making their classrooms better for their students.

St. Peter’s will support the teachers at Bicentennial South Elementary School. This is a Title I school where Mary Bennett, our awesome music director has worked for 30 years. Mary says the teachers buy their own CD players to have in the classroom, so we are going to help support them this year. A portable CD player costs $25. Please donate what you can to help us purchase 30 CD players to donate.

CALLING ALL COOKS

We know there are many talented cooks in our midst. Let’s get together and help form cooking teams and plan Wednesday night meals at St. Peter’s. At CHURCH ON WEDNESDAY, beginning September 14th, we hope to gather a variety of groups for a light supper followed by fellowship, Bible studies, choir practice, special interests and social justice issues. Let us know if you can help. Sign up on the courtyard or see any of our Deacons.

SAVE YOUR OLD DAY-BY-DAY DEVOTIONALS

St. Peter’s will be collecting outdated Forward Day-By-Day devotionals for the next couple of weekends. We’ll have a basket on the Guest St. Peter’s table to receive them. The devotionals will be repurposed by including them in the “care packages” that we put together for the homeless. Don’t throw them out, help us to give them out!! Of course, feel free to donate current devotionals as well!

PRISON MINISTRY

St. Peter’s has an opportunity to expand services into another minimum yard at Perryville. We are looking for volunteers who can serve one Friday a month in a worship service from approximately 6:30 - 8:00 PM. See Deacon Gay or Deacon Kim. Must pass a background check. Can be male, female, or husband/wife team.
