Oak Grove Mission Statement
Our mission is to glorify God through worship, bring people to faithful
discipleship in Christ, equip them for ministry in the church and the
world, and grow in our love for one another through fellowship.
A love offering will be collected to be
given to Reverend Matthew Allen on his
last day at Oak Grove, Sunday, January
11, 2015. A small white unmarked enve-
lope is included in this newsletter.
More are available in your Sunday bul-
letins as well as in the church office.
Place your gift in the offering plate or
mail to the church. Make checks paya-
ble to Oak Grove Moravian Church and
write “Pastor” on the memo line.
Be sure to mark your calendar for
Sunday, January 11, 2015 to be
present for Reverend Allen’s final
Sunday at Oak Grove! There will
be a potluck dinner to honor his
12 years & 9 months of service at
12:30 that day. ALL are welcome!
Something Special
A special keepsake scrapbook will be assembled
as a memorable gift to Matthew, largely made up
of your kind notes & cards. Bring your cards &
write notes that share a specific memory that he
can look back on for many years of enjoyment!

Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His
might. —Ephesians 6:10
When he was little, my son had a habit of wandering. One day,
we were in a hotel and came to an elevator. He ran ahead to
push the button. I told him, "If the elevator comes, wait until Dad
gets there." Just as I arrived at the elevator, the doors were
closing, and he was inside. He was gone!
I frantically pushed the button for the other elevator and waited
for what seemed like an eternity. Finally, the doors opened, and
I jumped in. I went down to the lobby. He wasn't there. I ran
back to the elevator, pushed every button for every floor, and as
the doors opened, I would scream out his name. I didn't care
about decorum. I wanted to find my son. And I found him, about
three floors up, wandering around. But you know what? After
that experience, he didn't wander anymore. He got separated
from his father, and it was scary for him. He learned how im-
portant it was to stay close to me.
As Christians, we should want to stay as close to our Heavenly
Father as possible. The Devil is a powerful adversary, and we
are no match for him in our own strength. We don't want to ven-
ture out in this life in our own abilities and suffer spiritual defeat.
I have a healthy respect for the Devil's ability. For that reason, I
want to stay as close to the Lord as possible. I want to be strong
in Him.
If ever there was a time to be walking closely with the Lord, it is
now. This is not the time to be playing games with God. This is
not the time to wander away.

FROM YOUR PASTOR
Thank you for a great Advent and Christmas. We enjoyed many
activities together. All our services were beautiful, especially the
Christmas lovefeast. It may not have been one of the biggest
crowds we’ve had, but you’d never know it by the congregational
singing. It was exceptional this year.
I’ve really enjoyed our ministry together these last 12 and a half
years. We will always have memories to cherish in our hearts.
It’s not easy to say goodbye. We have become family. I don’t like
change and because we’ve been together so long, I’ll admit I’m
nervous about starting all over again in a new congregation.
Many of you have said it won’t be the same at Oak Grove without
me. God will be with us both to help with the transition. You will
remain in my thoughts and prayers and I certainly covet your
prayers.
You are a good group of people and I wish you all the best. May
God send you a good pastor, one who preaches His Word and who
will be a faithful shepherd to you. May you give your new pastor
the same love and support you have given to me. Also, during the
interim period you will need to work together as brothers and sis-
ters to keep the congregation strong. Always seek the leading of
the Holy Spirit and He will never lead you astray.
Again, thank you for your love, support, and cooperation.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine
upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up his counte-
nance upon you; and give you peace. Amen.”
Yours in Christ,
Matthew

Did You Know?
You don’t have to wait for a clothing drive to donate your
unwanted clothing to the Bethabara Moravian Clothing
Closet. Just bag items up and bring the to Oak Grove
when you come to church. Let Louise Whealton know
and she can deliver them to Bethabara on your behalf.
Children’s clothing is especially appreciated.
The King’s Teens & ‘Tweens did a little Christmas shopping from a cata-log called, “The Most Important Gift Catalog in the World”. They bought a trio of rabbits, a flock of chicks, a family of honey bees complete with a box and a hive, and contributed towards the purchase of a water buffalo. All of these gifts are given to impoverished families in areas of our world to help end hunger. Through an organization called Heifer International they are helping bring dignity and self-reliance to families in need with its bril-liantly simple solution—livestock and training for food and income. A farmer in Thailand said, “If I die, my family will weep for me. If my buffalo dies, my family will starve.” Heifer trains the people how to utilize and care for their livestock.
Water buffalo provide draft power for planting rice & potatoes, milk for protein & manure for fertilizer & fuel. Rabbits have many offspring, providing income, protein, & fertilizer. Bees provide income, an excellent source of nutrition and pollination for crops. Chickens enrich diets with nourishing, life-sustaining eggs to eat, share or sell. They help control in-sects & fertilize gardens. A good hen can lay up to 200 eggs a year!
To learn more about how much good Heifer International does for peo-ple, you can visit their website at www.heifer.org.
